Our cops are just the opposite. When the Redfern riots occurred, they had to just stand there and take a pounding, like getting bricks and molotov cocktails thrown at them.
I live in Pittsburgh, and the riot police did exactly that during the G20 protests. Several of my friends were beaten or gassed (including 2 resident assistants, who are employed by the college) for trying to get back in to their dorms so they could avoid the protesters. The riot cops gassed the lobby of one of the dorm buildings for no reason at all, students WHO LIVED THERE were just standing around talking (and the cops hadn't issued any orders to disperse).Sven und EIN HUND said:

Good, I really hate flame wars, it's a shitstorm of ignorance. Yes, I can see how familes have influence on family members. Marines do deserve to be praised (The non-morally questionable ones), I mean, they are out there dying for us. I just don't agree with the means of the war, why the hell do marines have to be out there in the first place? Most would say terrorism, but terrorism was a response to our meddling in the middle east. You do realize Afghanistan doesn't have nukes, right? The infrastructure in that country is incredibly poor, thanks to constant wars and invasions (U.S., Soviet Union, the country's own warlords, for example), that they don't even have the capabilities to make one.strangemoose said:

Not a lot of information there, and what information there is seems terribly one-sided. Police officers aren't deranged mindless psychos (for the most part atleast), especially during such a high-profile event.
I kinda wanna point out its not because people became unpatriotic and got whiney about the war, its because they people have seen what this war has done and the fact that a good, America wins ending, probably isn't likely. In war history determines the winner and the fact that we still don't have any idea how many of the terrorist are still left.
