Indigo Prophecy ((aka Fahrenheit..sp?)) i made it a few hours in...and a dog unplugged the power cord, and corrupted the save..it's not that i forgot to save...it's that it got corrupted...that was a few months ago....i still haven't picked up that game..even though i love it

also, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth...was on the fight with Hydra..forgot to save before the Dagon fight...i died....and had to kill Dagon again, then make my way through a few hours of Devil's Reef...then try to kill Hydra again...i decided to say no...fuck this...and i was done for a few days...but it's my favorite game...so i couldn't stay mad at it
Damn I love Fahrenheit, one of my favourite games ever (even if the second half of the game does take a slight dive.

The atmosphere and tension in that game is amazing and imo nothing comes close to touching it in terms of pulling you into the story.

Half-life 1.
I died about 40 minutes in (miscalculated jump over a bottomless pit), started over again, 5 minutes after starting again I realized you can pick which chapter to start in. >.<

Quicksave is your friend.

That's a little extreme. Did it break?

i didn´t knew you could save in the middle of the map soooo yeah... alot of time spent going back and forth to a single save point when i couldn´t find one (wich was halve the time)

i remember i went into the lunatic pandora and hadn´t saved for an hour or so...

i hated the game for that... but still my fav JRPG

final fantasy 3.

4 hours down the drain because i didn't notice the power was on red. annoyed me to the extent of losing the will to play it for a while.

oh well, i went through it much better the second time through. chose some classes preferable to what i selected the first time.

Shadow of the Colossus. I was almost done with the game when school had started. A few days before I had gotten a new memory card, I had wanted a new one for some time, and Shadow of the Colossus was the first game I had played on the new memory card.

I went to school and came home, only to find out that my younger cousins, all of who were toddlers at the time, had been playing in my room. Apparently one of them climbed on my furniture and got my new PS2 memory card and threw it into a tub of water.

I was angry, very, very, angry.

Fallout 1 & 2 were absolute bastards for this sort of thing. This scenario would regularly pan out:

Me - Hmmm, ambushed by low level raiders you say? It's fine, they won't be able to do much damage, no need to save!

*a few turns of combat*

Me - Ok, last one's gonna get it as soon as I get my next turn.

*ends turn*

Game - Raider scored a critical hit on you for 92 damage. Unfortunately, your spine is now visible from the front. You were killed. [sub]Hahahaha. Ha.[/sub]

Me - ...

I played Mass Effect for several hours, relatively certain that the game was autosaving for me. I got a missile shot at my feet, died, got sent back several hours (and about 12 levels).

I save after every battle now.

Not quite as severe as some of the examples here, but Dungeon Siege is a bit sparse with its auto-saves. I've lost 60-90 minutes on a few occasions to my own forgetfulness.

As a PC gamer, crashes are a constant thorn in my side. I've had SimCities wiped out, long stretches of hunting in Oblivion's countryside rabbit-holed, and countless other games crash on me, often mere seconds before an autosave interval just so the game can rub it in my face.

Stability, in gaming as in life, can be so comforting...

Plants vs Zombies. My entire game, all the way up to the pool, got corrupted. 4-ish hours?

A bit different, but trying to get the Chicago Typewriter in RE4. I was failing Ada's challenge thing, and was missing one that was fairly obvious, so I decide to make a new file for the main game, and save just before going up to bed. The next day I go back to the Ada mission and complete it and find the last thing I was missing. I then go back into the main game, expecting to just go back into my save file that was on a 3rd play through with 1000000 gold and within 10 feet of a merchant stand, when I realize that I had overwritten my old save file with the new, just barely into the town on the first playthough file. I haven't touched the game since.

Iv'e done this in several different games, KOTOR, Fallout 3, Oblivion, other games when I was a kid.

When I was a kid the reaction for losing multiple times or the save thing would be slapping my leg 4 times then bitting it.

In Mass Effect I went for long periods without saving, and this kinda crap happened because I turned the autosave off.

Why?

Because I REALLY hate games that tell me how many times I saved, because then it makes me look rather noobish.
So one time I was spending two hours exploring a few planets, and on the third a Thresher Maw rapes me.

.....didn't play Mass Effect for a week.
