Ok just to establish this isn't a complaint about the entire DLC. I haven't even played it and most say it's pretty great overall. But we all know the real reason it was anticipated, dragon riding, and you've probably heard how it was absolutely underwhelming http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/10091-Skyrim-Dragonborn-Review. Yeah, I suppose it was stupid to get too excited, however I am still frustrated with bethesda. I realize that programming dragon riding may have been impractical, however if they couldn't do it then they shouldn't have pretended that they could.
They simply created this so they could say "hey guys we put dragon riding in the game" rather than to actually increase enjoyment (I kind of wonder if this was requested by management who didn't understand the difficulties for gamers or programmers). They could not have realistically believed what they came up with was anything compared to what actually flying a dragon around would be like.
It would have been more courteous to admit they couldn't do it, just release a really cool DLC returning to Solstheim and not have disappointed anyone. But are you disappointed? Do you think developers shouldn't do something in a game if they can't do it as well as the players would like? And as long as we're on the subject does anyone know some good games with dragon riding or general aerial creature riding?

I thought that the idea of dragon riding was stupid and should have never been implemented, regardless of how well it was done. In fact, I'm probably a little glad that it sucked so now people will shut the fuck up about it.

Anyway, speak for yourself about why you anticipated the DLC, but I know that I, and many other people, just were more excited for the large amounts of stuff from Morrowind. Of course, I haven't had a chance to actually play it yet (for many reasons, not the least of which being Bethesda thinks that Xbox owners deserve to get everything before anybody else), so I can't vouch for how good any of it is.

There are a few mods that let you fly AS a dragon but not on one.

There is a flying carpet mod and a Vampire Lord real flight mod.

After the Akatosh mounts in Oblivion (yep, we had flying mounts modded into Oblivion for those that haven't played the PC version) I have been expecting the modding community to do it better than Bathesda.

I haven't heard much good about the Dragon riding in the new DLC but i've heard the DLC is good overall.

Seriously, this is one of the most wrong argument I have seen. There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, that prevents dragon riding from acting exactly like horse riding, in that Dragons are fully controllable.

Considering developers wont know how people react to something in a game, until the game is released, it's kinda impossible for them to know if players will like it or not.

I always felt that the Dragon Riding was a bad idea to begin with. I mean, the dragons are already pathetically easy to beat in the game (Unless you have the Deadly Dragons mod), and turning them into mounts just cheapens them. THese are the bringers of the end times, allied with the dragon embodiment of Akatosh himself, and they are bending wing so some pissant can ride him like a taxi service.

Well you do have to use a shout called "bend will", a form of mind control, to get on them. Dragons DON'T just let you ride them, and dont really like that you are riding them.

It doesn't stop the act from diminishing the threat they pose even further.
I think it would be better if only Odahviing was your mount, since he's already your ally. Paarthurnax is too old to be your bus, but Odahviing is already on your side.

I was never clamoring for dragon mounts. This DLC is good, though. It's really good. I did have one moment where I went into a dungeon and ran into (*sigh*) more god damned Draugr. But they managed to make it interesting. It doesn't overtake The Shivering Isles, but it's quality content nonetheless.

And I'm saying this while not really being a big Skyrim fan.

Dragons aren't really supposed to be threatening to you, you are the DOV-AH-KIIN, Dragon-Hunter Child, after all.

But yeah, I do agree only odahviing should have been your mount, and he should have been pissy they whole time you rode him also.

They really should not have wasted time on dragon riding if it was going to be so insubstantial (although mods will make it better, mark my words).

You know what would have been fun to implement? Spears.

I know they can do it...

I would bet on spears being in the next DLC (assuming they're making another expansion pack like DLC, which if I remember correctly, they are). There is a video from a Bethesda game jam where everybody in Bethesda Game Studios had a week to make whatever they wanted for Skyrim, and spears was one of the things made (along with crossbows, werewolf perk tree, kinect dragon shouts, and many other things). So it's very likely that they're at least going to try putting them in the game.

.....I was never excited that you could fly a dragon, in fact, im glad they nerfed it to such a degree

I wanted it because it offered a Shivering Isles-like expansion that went back to Soltehiem lol

They could make it all up to us if they brought back the levitation spell. They got rid of it and my only solace was that maybe it was a spell only useable in morrowind, it would explain why silt striders could levitate despite being the size of a whale. But no, it just disappeared like spell making, acrobatics, spear weapons, medium armor, and the dwarves. :(

Spears are already in the game, in Dragonborn.

1. make dragons fly slower while you ride them
2. Horses can walk up the Throat of the World at impossible angels. Horses can go in every direction as is, even impossible ones, and they have been able to do so since the game was released. This really isn't holding back Dragons.
