Not necessarily a break in Cannon more along the lines of retelling the RARELY TOLD story of Tony Redgraves and how he became the Dante everyone knows.
It's canon, not cannon. Canon is the official version of something. A cannon is something you shoot at ships.
Sorry about that I really shoulda checked, but since you insist on nitpicking allow me a retort!

Yeah, Dante looks bad... But what the heck happened to Rebellion? Did it work out and lose a few pounds or something... Hell, I think his guns are smaller to...
That's my biggest complaint. Dante got Rebellion as a child and Vergil earned Yamato as a young man. That sword seriously needs to go back to its original design

I ain't nitpicking YOU, I'm informing the ignorant masses. It's a public service announcement.

I need to remember to append my posts with that.

This has been a public service announcement.

Huh. Coming from a Devil May Cry fan, I wasn't too impressed with that. For starters he does look out of place - it just seems a bit too bright. Also it looked a little like a PS2 game. I hope I'm wrong.
Too bright? I don't really get that, I thought it was a pleasant color pallet that we rarely see in games with all the brown and more brown. Candy to my eyes, I say.

Of course, this is coming from someone who was never really that familiar with the Devil May Cry games. I've only played a little bit of DMC4 and it wasn't really that great to be honest. This one looks interesting, though I doubt I will get it.

I like the color pallette of this game. Usually the "real" world has the bright colours and the dark world has the gritty and boring dark colours. This time they seemed to have swapped it. Any game that isn't dark brown and gritty the entire game automatically get point from me.

Frankly, I'm fed up with all this fanboy rage. Its so irritating to me that they can't accept that a character may not have always been the same person they've seen in the previous games his entire life. Frankly I applaud the developers for going in such a radical direction, because this implies that there is going to be very intense character development as Dante changes back to the character they know and love over the course of the game.

I like to imagine that the gameplay will unlock pieces and piece of his older look

Ugh another Unreal Engine 3 game?

Character animation looks jacked up. I realize this is early production/prerelease footage, but holy damn is that walking animation terrible. A lot of the animation doesn't seem to flow well from one move to another. Most of the moves themselves look good though. Needs a lot more work.

Dante looks out of place in that world, and the environment itself looks very plain, very lacking. I'm not sure if that is to keep frame rates up or not. With the new look of Dante and this art style, it doesn't work for me.

I'm not a hater of the new look for Dante, I'm just saying the art style doesn't blend well.

This trailer did nothing to alleviate or intensify the ever-burning hatred I have for this project. They're still going in the same silly direction as was revealed last September and there wasn't enough gameplay shown to make any sorts of judgements of its quality. All I can see that I didn't know before is that the game looks at most like an Xbox 360 launch title at this stage of development and they still kept that goddamn stupid shapeshifting weapon. And that goddamn horrible character design. And enemy design.

Oh, and the joke that got tossed around on the Capcom Unity forums after the first teaser about Dante getting a new "Devil Trigger" that gave him white hair turned out to be true. That made me laugh a little.

It still looks like shit, it's still being made by Ninja Theory, and Ninja Theory couldn't design a competent action game to save their lives. I'll wait until I see its finished gameplay system before I reach a concrete verdict, but that won't stop me from bitching about what I'm seeing.

Also, the hair isn't what most of us die-hard fans are worried about. That is merely a sprinkle on the icing of the shit cake that is what this project is turning out to be.

Looks better than I originally thought, but I don't like his new look, not becausse of his hair but because he looks like a whiny kid. And I hate whiny kids, but if it will have the good old devil ass-kicking, i'm game.

@ The people complaining about Dante's new look: ...Isn't this being billed as a reboot of the series? So can't they change Dante up? (personally, I'd prefer it if they would have just made a new character, but whatever)

Anyway, it looks pretty good. Will definitely keep an eye on this game. The concept and style look GREAT.

To be frank the hair was never too much of a detractor for me, but his scrawniness and attitude in last years trailer certainly was, not because "It's not sticking to canon" (TBF, considering that this is a prequel they have a lot of freedom in design so long as it concludes in him being the Dante we know), but because frankly the character just sort of came off as a prick. Okay, I guess the original Dante was a prick, but he was a loveable one, one who you couldn't help but smirk with when he made a quip or acted the way he did, while this Dante just came across as an annoying punk, a weak looking one at that, so he just sounded like he was only acting tough instead of actually being tough. Hopefully this attitude changes throughout the game so he ends up as a better character, but the theme of this trailer in terms of enviornment, music, and message seemed to suggest that this wouldn't be the case, which has me worried. Hopefully the gameplay will still be good, otherwise we'll have another Other M on our hands here.

still looks too serious, i thought they perfected this! dante is a lot of fun when he's riding missiles, defending pizza or riding rocket powered motorcycles, making him a brooding antihero will be suicide for this series

I have a feeling that even if the next full gameplay trailer showed something completely true to the original DMCs and had everything you and every other DMC fan wanted, you would still hate it no matter what. You're not looking to be convinced, you're just looking for an excuse to hate on a reboot of a game that you and so many other have (apparently) cherished. You want to rag on it because it's not the familiar DMC you've gotten before. Even if this game came out as solid gold and served to enhance the DMC series, people would still moan about it being shit because it's not the Dante they know or some crap.

That's fine, I suppose, to an extent. But really, the amount of backlash and incessant bitching about this new reboot thing is downright pathetic. It's practically MGS2 levels of inanity. Ninja Theory can do whatever they goddamn want with this game, and considering it looks to retain that DMC style of combat I really don't see what people are complaining about as that's all that really matters in a DMC game. Of all things, the fans are bemoaning about the story aspect of DMC. Really? I have to agree with Mr. Funk here when I say who gives a shit about the DMC story?

While I have never really cared for DMC, this new reboot whateveritis does look interesting. I played DMC4 about halfway and it was pretty unremarkable, to me anyway. I like the color palette they've put on the game, very bright and pleasing to the eyes. I'm willing to give Ninja Theory a chance. You don't want to, that's your choice, nothing that I can do to stop you nor do I even care.

Ah, well i have careful optimism about this game now, fair Dante doesnt look exactly Dante-ish, but im liking it, they've obviously changed his look slightly since the last trailer, extending the coat, adding more red, loosing the emo fringe ect. I just cant see how people can call him 'emo', search emo in google and to be honest he doesnt really fit the bill. The demons are looking alot more like demons rather than the anime monsters in DMC4. I just think this game is being aimed at the younger generations which isnt a bad thing by any stretch. Plus to complain about Dante's attitude and personality is silly, we have not heared anything about the story line for this game except that it's a prequel, so i think it's better to pass judgement on it once we know what the games plot is.

The game looks NOTHING like a devil may cry game. heck the visual design of DMC games were mostly more 'colorful' in the way that they never tried to look realistic because the game is all about campy fun! but now Dante is basically latino and the world he is in looks like ...well...bad.
I don't know... i just don't like how it looks, but if it plays like a DMC i guess its alright.

Put a god damn shirt on.

Character designers these days are incredibly stupid. I can't believe this shit.

Look at how many dislikes the youtube video has, it's hilarious.
Im sorry, you have at least seen DMC3 right?

More to the topic, what ive seen kind of restores some of my faith in this game. Now i want to see the other Devil Arms and not just the one that has just retconned Rebellion from us.

I agree the hair is a bit odd, looks like someone just walked up to him and sliced off his fringe with a pair of scissors, but overall i for one think his look is ok. Looks a bit ruff but thats just down to the fact that its still a work in progress.
