Gob Bluth of the games industry? Now I'll never be able to see Peter Molyneux's face without humming "The Final Countdown."

Seriously though, at lest he's trying to come up with new ideas for games which is more than anyone can say about the turds that just keep churning out Call of Duty after Call of Duty. This is why, no matter how many times he fucks up and subsequently apologizes, I'll still love the old bastard.

You know, before these things were annoying but now I'm seriously starting to feel sorry for the guy. He really is trying to be innovative and improve the gaming industry and you can tell he loves games in general. His games just don't seem to be working out all that well for him.

I really hope that at some point in his career he creates a game that is GOTY material.

He has created plenty, populus being the most obvious example.

Hmm well I guess I mean recent then. Considering I was not yet alive when this game came out. Good to see he has had success though.

Will everyone stop ripping on Molyneux? The demo was clearly made to show off Kinect features (it was the focus of yet another conference, I'm pretty sure that's what microsoft wanted). The on-rails gameplay is just because of the oddly ignored problem witrh Kinect: without a control stick, you CANNOT MOVE!

The poor reception to this demo is Kinect's fault, not molyneux's.

Yeah, there's a reason people pay such close attention to everything Molyneux does - the man is one of the living gods of game design. The trouble is that he apparently wasn't Y2K certified; ever since Black and White in 2001 he seems to have struggled to find his mojo.

I would like Black and White 3, where they lock Peter in a room with a huge development team, put a gag in his mouth, and have him direct them solely by writing on a big whiteboard. That way he can think things through before he says them, stop irritating us, and really make something a lot of people want to see.
This needs to be turned into a petition. For the past two Fable's Ive not bothered watching any of the dev videos where Peter features mainly because he gets my hopes up and then crashes them back down come release date.

I think another question is why it should be so horrible for a game to tell a linear story or have a linear format in the first place. I spent a large part of that article looking at the picture, and the word journey, and thinking 'that might be rather nice, I'd get it if it were real. If it's linear it might have a really, really good story, too'.

Misrepresenting a game as having a linear story (and indeed an extremely linear way of telling it) is indeed a mistake to be corrected, but the response here smacks more of someone having accidentally implied they're sexually attracted to animals and having a bunch of people subsequently attest to their clarification.

Yes, the linear format isn't fashionable at the moment and people shouldn't buy 'em if they don't like that, but there's nothing wrong with a game that sets out to be so from the start .. and something a little uncomfortable about responding to implications you've made one as if you've just done something disgusting.

'Least, that's the impression I got >.> This feels like the same kind of screwed up implications you get when politicians call desperate press conferences over implications they might be homosexual.

And Milo was not fake, it was a concept feature of an interpretation of the technological potential of a device that had yet to be completed and required a mock-up of a prototype that would be implementable had that device worked according to specifications illustrated by the demonstration itself.

Wait, is he saying they found a way to make a kinect game work without rails?! That should have been your entire demo. No one has yet made an open world kinect game, and that would have been a way better selling point than "wave your hands to do magic".

I cant believe he didn't realize that showing a on rails demo for a Kinect game would have been a problem.People have been talking for months about how problematic and limiting the moment system of the Kinect has been.

While I don't really believe they solved the movement problem yet if they do it will change the entire kinect market and open the door for many serious kinect titles.

I'll at least give him credit for apologizing.

Microsoft probably just wanted more to show for Kinect (that actually functioned properly) and asked Peter to whip up something for them. Stupid mistake on his part, though, I've never been a fan of the series anyway.
I really, really want to know where your avatar is from.
