Ive heard about this a lot but Im not sure on the details. Is Origin actualy spyware-level of privacy infringment? Like it lets them access any file in your computer? That sounds too evil, even for EA.
Doesn't matter if everyone else does it. It's EA. So it's EEEEEEEVIL! Didn't you know that? Geeze.Valanthe said:Actually the second poster makes a valid point, almost every one of your points has been on -every- EULA and ToS I've ever read through, from way back in the late 90's early 2000's
Daaaaaaayumn duuuuu- This website has a a built in spellchecker, y'know? Just google the words you don't know how to spell! Don't just hammer away at the keyboard the way Cliffy B does as he's sitting in front of an old CRT computer monitor in an unventilated mobile home in Nevada writing homo-erotically charged ship fics of his own characters!yaydod said:So i just read the terms of agrement to use there game, and what i understud is that EA can shut down my acount (acces to their games) any moment my acount if :
Im part of a groupe that they or "normal" people view as "bad".
I talk bad on their forums (or someone talks bad about me if they still use the same bot)
If i post infringement or a modified part of their game (mods for example if i understood right are illegal in their eyes)
And if they see anything illegal on my PC.
Other thing is that they can patch the game at any moment (wich is a good thing with online plateforms like steam) and screw up All previous saved data, of course they are not responsible for this wich understandable.
I know I forgot several parts but feel free to look it up at :

I read that this will also be on the console and isn't reserved for the PC.
Here is where i saw it but i do not think it is the most relyable source.

So tell me what you understood and is it me just being a bit paranoid with EA since Origine and other crap.
You know, I said this would happen. I called it back in 2009 when that whole MWII boycott thing was going on, or rather when it failed. I said that it was not just about dedicated servers or whatever, it was about publishers realizing that they can do whatever the fuck they want and gamers will just bend of and take in up the ass and continue to buy their overpriced crap.Verzin said:TL;DR, gamer's rights have already been stripped away. by our own volition, and the brain-dead majority are only now starting to figure it out.

Actually I never tried it. I'm overly concerned with Origin. While the EULA is very vague which is concerning, I really like BF3 so I just run Origin for that. Of course I never let it boot up at start and I close it when I'm done with BF3.Saulkar said:I just uninstalled Origin today because I am sick of using it through sandboxie. I do not know what went wrong but when I run BF3 through it the game only launches maybe 15% of the time. It works just fine when I want to check some software for viruses that Norton may have missed but BF3 bombs. I am sick and tired of it and gave up. But how has your experience been? From the sounds of it, positive.Wolfram01 said:So I finally bothered trying to see if there is a way to stop Origin from collecting data.
The answer is yes.
Run Origin in Sandboxie! This looks like a freaking amazing little program. Basically it will block origin from accessing any info outside of itself. So data collection will be a non-issue.
All the other stuff in the TOS is pretty standard bull shit that tries to remove our rights to our purchases, but there's of course ways "around" that as well.
To be fair, most consumers are pretty bad at this these days. Electronics consumers as a whole seem to be worse, but still.Irridium said:Hey, if you don't like their business practices, stop buying their games.
Seriously. It's not that hard. Hey, Mass Effect 3 is coming out soon, it'd sure send one hell of a message if we all didn't buy that game because of EA's terms of service and EULA, showing all that we won't put up with this shit anymore and possibly changing things for the better.
But that won't happen, because I'm willing to be damn near every person who's complaining about this will be buying ME3 on launch day. Re-enforcing EA's decisions. It won't fucking matter if it's the last game of theirs you buy. They won't give a shit if you don't buy some other game, but not buying one of their biggest products and causing it to tank? That'd send a message.
But again, that won't happen, because these are gamers we're talking about here. They don't give a damn if they get screwed, so long as they get their video games.
I seriously doubt Micro$oft or $ony would ever let EA fuck around with their pie.Somonah said:How can you be part of this forum, or the internet in general, and be surprised by EA being fuck knuckles?
And they aren't just killing their PC market. Well only PC for now but they do plan (akaik) getting origin onto consoles. If that happens, kiss used games goodbye, kiss retail games goodbye and say hello to all future EA games and DLC bought from origin on your console with inflated prices.
How about not playing your favourite games at all if you're not going to purchase?Guilherme Zoldan said:And thats why I love the pirate bay. Providing your favourite games at no cost and not having to deal with the stupid crap from the publishers.
