Used game sales are the biggest sink of money for game companies. They're trying to control falling profits. Why are they bad?

What about the poor guy who never got a chance to buy Madden 2010 (or whatever) and a year or so later he wants to pick it up? He goes on Amazon, or to Gamestop, or his buddy, and gets a used copy for $20. Now he can't play multiplayer.canadamus_prime said:I usually never buy used games, but I still say "Screw you too EA"
Nah it still smacks of rich guys whining because they're not as rich as they could be.MetallicaRulez0 said:This is a good strategy by EA. Stick it to GameStop without hurting it's fans at all. Anyone that actually cares about the industry will pay the extra 5 bucks to buy a NEW game.
TO EA: You're richer then I'll ever be *****, so STFU!
EA doesn't make money from used games sales at all. So is this really a surprise for you?AkJay said:According to this, EA is withholding multiplayer from their sports games from anyone who buys a used copy. As anyone who owns Madden will know, or soon find out, playing by yourself is rather boring. Is EA actively trying to steal the "Worst Game Company" away from Activision?
Thoughts? Theories? Angry Rants?

HeHe- I often wonder how many of the people on here that say ' just buy them new' actually have to pony up cash, or whether in fact its mummy and daddy doing the paying out. Wait till the little bastards have to work for a living-they'll change their tune...Macgyvercas said:HA! Jokes on you this time EA! I don't play Sports games!
Anyway, on to my rant now.
If the cost of games was lower, we who are rather strapped for cash because we have to pay for food, shelter, clothing, gas, tuition, and books for college could afford the games new and wouldn't have to get them used. You want someone to blame for the popularity of used game sales, EA (and the industry in general, I guess) look no further than the mirror.
Humm have job, own place, and still buy games new........whod a thunk it.MiserableOldGit said:HeHe- I often wonder how many of the people on here that say ' just buy them new' actually have to pony up cash, or whether in fact its mummy and daddy doing the paying out. Ha ha ha. That's a good one. Priceless.scobie said:Fortunately, we don't live in an anarcho-capitalist society and "it turns a profit" cannot be offered as a justification for a corporation to do whatever the hell it wants just because it's good for them.
EA have taken a step forward lol?Irridium said:Oh EA... you take 1 step forward and 2 steps back...
This could get people to, you know, not buy your games so they don't have to deal with this crap? Ever think of that?
My parents don't buy my video games. I do. But most of my money goes toward college and I don't have a lot leftover for entertainment.MiserableOldGit said:HeHe- I often wonder how many of the people on here that say ' just buy them new' actually have to pony up cash, or whether in fact its mummy and daddy doing the paying out. EA dont just do sports titles though, they how licenses for everything from FPS to RPG to Racers etc, hell all the top people from infinity ward just signed up to EA..arc1991 said:doesn't affect me at all, i hate sports games ^_^, if i want to play football or golf, i'll do it with my friends, i refuse to control 11 people kicking a useless football into a virtual goal...when i could simply kick a real ball into a real goal and get much better praise for it.
however, for people who do play sports games...ouch...kick in the balls or what?
