Ubisoft is screwing its customers, and now EA is as well. If valve or bioware decides to do something like the other two I may have to kill myself

Maybe they should focus on making their games better, so people aren't buying them and then reselling them. If you've got that large of a problem with people selling away your games, then you're doing something seriously wrong.

Bioware are developers, not producers.
If valve starts fucking with us, however, it's revolution time.

And just when I stood up for EA today, they do some shit like this.
What you did was noble, epecially after seeing EA crying, dirty, and surrounded by those bigger boys.

You just hadn't seen EA drop the kitty into the wood chipper, that's all.

Oh EA... you take 1 step forward and 2 steps back...

This could get people to, you know, not buy your games so they don't have to deal with this crap? Ever think of that?
EA have taken a step forward lol?

History of EA: Hitler and Dr Mengele escaped Germany in 1945, fled to Argentina with help from the odessa network and the catholic church, helped run South American dictatorships until the 80s. Growing bored with world domination they founded EA.
Yeah, when they removed the retarded securom DRM from their games. That was a nice step forward.

Great way of putting it. I guess I haven't.

Just when people start making fun of EA for being unoriginal or all that shit with Dante's Inferno, just made me say "Look, at least they're trying and while it's not going so well, at least they're putting in some effort"

But this...makes me take back what I said.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that from a financial point of view it makes perfect sense for EA to take this approach.

Used games sales = no profit for EA, so they are fighting back.
They are offering DLC for online pass for $10.00, which still gives you the option to play online.

As others have pointed out, I think it's only a matter of time before other companies take this approach.
So that's it?

Ofcourse it makes sense for them. Pretty logical decision really. What bothers me is how openly they just roll with this, not many people seem to care. It's a definite lose/lose situation for gamers, if this gets famous it's going to go across with all major publishers and thus most mainstream games resulting in less (even fucking less) ownership of the product for the consumer and a serious hit to the used games market. Imagine if in 10 years time you'll have to think twice about picking up classics because you might have to pay something extra in some strange sheme to make you pay for what you have already bought. Screw that.

I don't think what they are doing is right. It's a big "Fuck You" to people that pick up old sports games, or atleast after a few months which I tend to do. I get it if publishers put extra goodies in new, pre-ordered copies to keep the used games a bit down but actually removing features from the main product? No, sir. I won't buy their games again, even though I tend to buy around 2-3 sports games a year. PES 2011, let's go.

This is a good strategy by EA. Stick it to GameStop without hurting it's fans at all. Anyone that actually cares about the industry will pay the extra 5 bucks to buy a NEW game.
Nah it still smacks of rich guys whining because they're not as rich as they could be.
TO EA: You're richer then I'll ever be *****, so STFU!
What about the poor guy who never got a chance to buy Madden 2010 (or whatever) and a year or so later he wants to pick it up? He goes on Amazon, or to Gamestop, or his buddy, and gets a used copy for $20. Now he can't play multiplayer.

I can understand them having a stick up their butts about piracy, but used game players are just buying/trading for games that have been legitimately purchased. If they don't want to pay an extra $25 (for older games, that's often the price difference vs. brand new at release) for a shiny coat of shrink wrap and that new instruction manual smell, I think they should have the right to do so, ESPECIALLY FOR GAMES THAT ARE OUT OF PRINT!

Between this and DRM, I think Shamus Young is going to have plenty to complain about on Experienced Points over the next few weeks.
You're preaching to the choir dude, 'cause I support used game sales. Hence why I was saying EA can STFU and stop whining.

Doesn't hurt me at all since when I buy a sports title I buy it when it's 2-3 years old, long after the online features have been disabled. The only real changes to the games are the rosters any way.

I agree 100%. Companies that follow the EA business model can go fuck themselves. What they are doing in regard to used games benefits no one aside from themselves and has the potential to be devastating for industry retailers which would cost tens of thousands of people their jobs. Of course, developers that actually matter would probably never think of doing something like this, which is why people will continue to support companies like Capcom and Konami.

In light of this, I'd love to see every piece of shit company using "Project Ten-Dollar" and similar tactics to go belly up.

This doesn't bother me, from a buisness standpoint it's a great idea.

Personally, the only sports game I play is Tiger Woods golf, and since I buy it new, this online incentive doesn't affect me.

I am pretty stingy about which games I buy, so if I buy a game, it's almost always a new copy. I rarely buy used copies, because of Pre-ordering. The only games I buy used, are games that were "surprise" hits, that have gotten rave reviews, or I didn't know about them previous to their release. I do this because I only buy good games, and they can be difficult to find used, and by the time you find a used copy, people have often moved on to the next big release.

Honestly though, if you are that big a fan of a game series, like Madden for example, why wouldn't you buy it new? Sports games come out once every year, odds are, when the new one comes out, almost everyone switches over to the new version. This means that people buy the new one, and keep it for a year. By the time you have relatively easy access to a used copy, the next years version will be released. It doesn't do anyone any good to have a used copy of a sports game, because few people will be playing it.

doesn't affect me at all, i hate sports games ^_^, if i want to play football or golf, i'll do it with my friends, i refuse to control 11 people kicking a useless football into a virtual goal...when i could simply kick a real ball into a real goal and get much better praise for it.

however, for people who do play sports games...ouch...kick in the balls or what?
Not to dispute your main point, but sports games do have a certain appeal.

The only sports game I buy is Tiger Woods golf. During the summer, spring, and fall, I go and actually play golf. But, in the winter, on rainy days, or days when I don't have 3 hours to play real golf, a video game is a nice substitute.

I'm not sure what the big deal is. Used games are like $5 cheaper than new games. Why wouldn't you want to pay that to have your money go to the developers that keep making games you love?
