no, but you can't deny that many colonists, after several hundred years travel, would consider their world to be 'a new earth' and eventually forget the 'new' part.
second; i'm only talking about humans. someone else, any of the non-human races of the megaverse, had to make the observation.
and finnaly, it's my own personal roleplay, i'm not imposing my views on you. just expressing my opinions, and thoughts.
...
Oh. Excuse me then, I thought you meant every one in the Universe had a first planet called Earth and then named everything else Earth. My fault, sorry.

From Lilo & Stitch: "Quadrent 17, sector 0-0-5, area 51 ... a planet called Jörð".

"Jörð" is just the same as "earth" only with a J in front. Means the same as "grund" (ground) in icelandic.

P.S. and Klingons are not from "Klingon", their home planet is Qo'noS, also known as Kronos.

Well its Latin name is "Terra" which I think sound a whole lot better than "Earth".

However, all intelligent alien races would probably name their planet after the setting they live in, we stand on earth, so we call it Earth, they live in water (for example) and they'd call it whatever water is in their language.

Just guessing...

No offence, but this is a pretty sorry attempt at deep thinking and insight. Names are something we give to identify it.

Every inhabited planet out there would be called the alien language for Earth or whatever the word for ground or soil is. I don't know why Star Trek/Wars always refer to a planet by the species that comes from it (Kardasia, Romulus) and even the aliens themselves go along with it!
I think you have that backwards actually.

How so? Earth isn't called Human-land is it. We don't call our planet from what our species is, we name it after what our ancestors called the ground.

I'm pretty sure real aliens would call it, "Toxic Cesspool of Crap" and run away screaming.

Anyways.

I don't know..."Earth" seems to be popular so....

Since this is our planet, I think we should name it.

If a bunch of wookiees visited we wouldnt tell them there planet was called kasshyk, the would say that their planet is called "RRRAAAWWWRARARWW!!"

ok so i take it you have all seen a film where aliens of some sort come to earth and call it earth.

what if earth has another name? what if it was abandoned by other beings and they called it something else?

and who decided it was to be called earth???
We did. We're the rulers of the planet so we decide what's what. You don't see ferrets objecting to our naming patterns.
Maybe not ferrets, they try not to get involved in global matters, but the owl community was pretty rude about when their suggested name was not chosen.

It's the official name because we say it is.
Exactly this. If life evolved on Mars and said they called Mars something else then we'd probably have to call it that instead.
Probably not, the sentiment goes a long way. A place "is called" something because we "call it" something. If other people lived on Mars and called it Hakkadakkalooba the planet would still be "called Mars" - by us. There's a reason why a variety of things have multiple names.
