I recently visited a website called Encyclopaedia Dramatica. Probably most, if not all of you are familiar with it.
I was not. I was really surprised and depressed by the amount of bigotry and racism that was present on that website. I was especially depressed by some of the articles concerning Asians/Orientals. It seemed to me, that whoever wrote that had an image of Asians/Orientals as being a bunch of impotent retarded f*ck pigs.
Now I do realise that places like that are a breeding ground for trolls and flamers (not in the gay sense of the word). However, I want to ask you whether such attitude is prevalent in Western society. I have once lived in Russia (12 years), so I am not completely unfamiliar with it. But, since I left when I was in grade 6, it is possible that I missed/skipped most of the racism and supremacist attitudes.
Thank you for your replies in advance.
Excuse me, but Encyclopedia Dramatica is proof that you can't take most of what you find on the internet seriously. All of what you call "bigotry" and "trolling" is done for lulz. And if you think that it's horrible and wrong to make fun of hate and abuse that real people suffer every day, please remember that EVERYTHING is relative. What you think is racism or hate could very well be humor to me or the man
at the front of the Clapham omnibus.
Encyclopedia Dramatica is definitely one of my top ten favorite sites on the internet. Why? I go to it when I'm tired of self-righteous milquetoasts complaining about injustice in the world, especially when they've never suffered it themselves. I go to it because it takes what the man
at the back of the Clapham omnibus thinks is good and respectful towards others, rips it in half, feasts on its innards, roasts the leftover bits, grinds those bits to powder, and then snorts the powder. I go to it to see all the internet's hate and bigotry flaunted and combined into something terrifyingly, perversely, vomitrociously beautiful.
It's art, zungerman. Encyclopedia Dramatica is razor-edge, twisted avant-garde art. It's like a sculpture that's made out of twisted metal thrown in a heap and painted a garish color, a monument that draws comments such as "It's so ugly!" and "What retard decided to call THAT monstrosity a beautiful thing?" And yet, there are those who look at Encyclopedia Dramatica and see something so vulgar, so extreme, so satirical that they say, "Bravo. Bravo." As you might have guessed, I am one of the people who cheers.
Open your eyes and mind, even if you do not wish to comprehend what you see.
