I don't see why a bunch of people are complaining about it really. Humans were a big part of the original show, at least they are keeping them in some alternate universe and such. And all the VA are here and so are the characters, its just a fun little idea that they decided to try to sell some different toys. So would you rather have a one time thing that sells toys now or would you rather have a completely new show with no connection to FIM at all hmm? We could have had a movie like the original animated Transformers movie, "Hey all the original cast is dead now Like these other random asses that you just met! Buy our Shit!" think about it....Also if this does well enough at theaters maybe Hasbro will see the potential profit in releasing an actual movie based on the actual show to theaters. You just have to think practically sometimes. Like if the Powerpuff Girls Movie had done well enough at the box office we would have had the Samurai Jack Movie a long ass time ago!

I think the bronies will survive, they might be a bit angrier and more bitter but they'll survive.

If drama and controversy could actually destroy a fandom, furries would have annihilated themselves long ago.

Replace the horses with teenage girls and remove all the horse puns and you get why I've never been able to get into this Pony stuff.

... it looks like Hasbro has published someone's bad MLP Fanfic.

How did they do the market research for this? Google MLP and see what turned up?

Okay so... sooooo.... This is silly? It just seems like it's meant to be an alternate reality of what's already out there except rather than ponies, everybody is human... with strange skin conditions apparently (Twilight is the purple people eater). I mean both realities appear to have all the same characters (excluding Twilight who isn't important enough to be a universal constant or create an interesting situation where she comes into contact with an alternate reality human self) which is just going lead to what? The same stuff they usually get up too? Albeit in a high school environment and limited by their humanity. In other words, it would probably have been more interesting to have had new characters rather than making the ponies further anthropomorphic by changing their form to human. Either way I'm not in any way inclined to watching it as I'm not entertained by MLP as much as others are.

At this point in time, nothing short of nuking the internet will kill the Brony fandom. As many people before have pointed out, this is a one-off bastardized film adaptation of the show. Now if this was replacing the show, there might have been a problem. But as it stands, with Season 4 coming out sometime this summer the Brony train will most likely keep on trucking.

Hey, now it will be even easier to make porn fanfiction for the bronies.
Rule 34 is a way to gauge the popularity of something, the only way this will get a ton of porn is if it turns out to be awesome, which I doubt it will, so don't hold your breath, besides there are already a ton of humanized pony pics out there.

If this movie was done in that art style, then I would probably watch it!

As it is, I'm not sold on the trailer. Everything about it seems to be rather 'meh', from the high school setting to the teeny bop pop and those humanised designs don't jive with me at all.

I'll probably give this a miss, unless lots of people have good things to say about it.
If the movie was done in the style of that picture then the world would explode because of the amount of awesome generated and we would all live on rainbows. I'm not sold on the trailer either, part of the reason that mlp:fim resonates is because you can view the characters as any age, almost. But this movie sets them firmly in highschool and high school sucks and not many people miss being a teenager. Really the only thing I saw in the trailer that actually made me go 'BLEGH' as opposed to just 'meh' was the appearance of a new character that reeks of love interest and if there is anything more annoying then teenage angst its love.

In all honesty, As a movie, it doesn't look bad at all.

I was worried that would be the new direction for season 4, but, just as a movie spinoff, I'll watch it.

Ding. We have a winner.

Its existence doesn't offend me because I know why its there. A bunch of suits crunched the numbers and think they can make some money. Good for them. But it's a My Little Pony spinoff that doesn't feature ponies and is trying to break into an already crowded field of 'school cartoon for kids'. A second season would be shocking.

If it gets high ratings, though, I don't care. Kids are morons. I should know, I used to be a kid and I was a moron. I'll keep watching the main show for as long as it runs.

I like the show and I cant say this will kill it.... but it sure as hell won't do it any favours. The thing I like about FIM is that they are ponies, if they are just girls then that novelty is sort of gone. As long as I keep enjoying the show then I'll watch it and not let this bother me.

...Who asked for this?

High school is not an interesting plot and never has been. And constantly pandering to it creates really awful expectations in children. If you needed a 'Human girls franchise' Hasbro. WHY DID YOU NOT TAKE UP LAUREN FAUST ON GALAXY GIRLS!?

*fumes*

I'm sorry but before I even knew who Fyre-Flye was (I seriously had no idea who she was IRL all those years ago, I just liked her art) on DA she was a nicest 'well known' artist I'd ever had the pleasure of conversing with and this... is just not fair. No actually, this is a spit in the face and a drop of the trousers.

And hell I've now shown this trailer to the kids I've babysat, they're as miffed as would be expected. The girl, she's disappointed that there's seemingly a romance subplot (please no) and that it's not about ponies, and the boy is annoyed that there's no dragons or creatures and now looks 'too girly' (his words not mine) (seriously Spike as a dog? That's just horribly insulting, he's a little brother-esque character.)

And the animation on those models is...all kinds of stiff and wrong. What on earth happened?

...I like MLP, I like it because it is a good cartoon, this... based on what is shown, is none of that.
If it turns out the entire trailer, premise and appearance is a farce and everyone on the internet declares it the best thing since sliced bread I might give it a glimpse later down the line. Otherwise keep this faaar away from me.

Just gonna address a few things.

Almack said:
Of course it wont survive, and then hasbro will pull a retcon out of the deepest part of there ass and MLP will go back to being about ponies set in equestrian.
As has been said, it's a spin-off. There will be no retcon because (as far as we know at the moment) this won't be canon. Therefore MLP won't "go back" to being about ponies set in Equestria because it will still be about ponies set in Equestria.

I'm not trying to be pushy, but it sounds like you haven't tried watching it. While it seems Equestria Girls will be all "generic high school drama," that's quite different from the normal show. The show's plotlines stray far from that of most "girly" shows. In fact, there's only been one episode where romance had any kind of effect in the plot, and that was because three fillies tried to hook up two adult ponies with a love potion, which they screwed up with disastrous results.

All I'm trying to say is give it a shot if you haven't. There are plenty of really good episodes with none of the generic "girly" cliches present in many cartoons. I'd be happy to suggest some.

If you have watched it and that is your opinion, however, then good for you and have a good day.

From what we know it's just one feature length film, not a planned cartoon season.

As I said a bit earlier, the plotlines of most episodes aren't "typical girl's stuff" by any measure.

Okay, so how do they shoehorn this in, exactly? Given the trailer, it looks like Celestia is sending them on an assignment, but Twilight has no wings, so...yeah, this took place before her ascension? When, exactly? I agree with Lionsprey:

My biggest concern is that when this bombs(And it will bomb, utterly), that it takes FiM down with it and Hasbro abandons the entire MLP IP for another decade or so.

EDIT: I stand corrected, she DOES have her wings in the trailer. I was mistaken when I saw the saddlebags, her wings are just barely visable UNDER them. That must be uncomfortable. Also, I'm less concerned with this sinking all of Gen 4 MLP since it is a movie. If the movie bombs, we just forget about it and go on like nothing happened. However, if the movie bombs and they push forward with a tv series, taking away resources from the main show for this, then it could be the end. It's less definite and more potential ruin at this point.

Try making that statement AFTER season 4 has ended. Yes there is a season 4 in the work and last time I've check that will be the final season. (Forever!)

As for the whole Equestria Gril trailer, I'm not sure what to make it but I know I will be checking it out just for the sake I can truly say if it's good or bad then to judge it from the trailer alone.

On-topic:

What is with the characters? They all look weird. It's like the makers got stuck between Anthro and Human and decided "LETS CHANGE THE SKIN COLOR. :D" even though only human would of worked.

Then I'm not sure what the other guy meant by "typical girl's stuff", because if this is about plotlines, the new trailer doesn't delve into them very much, beyond friendship being magic.
