Tallboys, from Dishonored.
Really? They're pretty freaky the first time around, but they have very predictable walk patterns and are fairly easy to take out, on any difficulty. Also, did the tallboys make you "despise [Dishonored] with a passion"?

On the subject, I would say the heavy enemies in Shank on the harder difficulties. One of the reasons I didn't finish it. :/

those are some ... interesting critters 0_0 what game is that from?

OT: people have already mentioned everything from the newer games I've been playing I'll go way back. anyone remember Megaman legends? no one? yea I figured, so let me explian: there was a certain Enemy that would patrol around and then charge you very fast to hit you with their massive drill arms, they were fast and not terribly large so it was easy to not notice them until they ram a drill down your throat and take a fourth of your health, but thats not the worst part, the worst thing is that in one of the later levels there is a group of these Enemies that are totally invisible until they hit you, you can however hear them stomping around looking for you. It scared the piss out if me as a kid, and to this day when I get to that room I just go nopenopenope and run like hell.

Praetorians in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. They move fast, hit like runaway Mack trucks and have an instant-kill move that they'll use at the slightest provocation.
How about a possessed Praetorian or Scion? Or worse... EA servers? *shivers*

Phantoms are my real nemisis. (What I did there, you see it?)

No, Plesi, please go back to your corner, sort your hitbox out and then fuck yourself now that your anus hitbox isn't 5 feet behind your goddamn tail.
I know its frowned upon but I really want to say /Thread to that, I was gonna say Ethereals from XCOM because they reflect all of my goddamned shots after mind controlling my people. But then you reminded me of the brokenness of the God-killing Plesi hipcheck. Seriously his hitbox is probably twice the size it's "supposed" to be, he should not be hitting you if you are 10 or more feet away from him!
Eventually I learned his moveset enough to block or dodge it but still, until you do he is the most annoying fucking monster in that game, hell I'd say in the entire series(only because of his hipcheck)

The tall mooks from God Hand. They are always fast and hard hitting. I would rather face the demons that sometimes pop out of defeated enemies rather than the tall guys. The drop guard right before a guard break hits denying a stun, they hit hard and fast, and they counter you instantly. If they are in a group I go, "Fuck this I am going God Hand and Going Fist of the North Star on your ass."

The Divide's Deathclaws. They scale with you. That makes them an incredible threat at later levels, since they get stronger, but your kit doesn;t really get better, and all you get are some Perks which may or may not help. And don't get me started on Rawr.

Outside of those broken monstrosities? That faction of white robots in Cortex Command. Yes,and entire faction makes me go "FUCK THAT SHIT!". They're surprisingly tough; they can outlast a Browncoat Heavy. With the Browncoat Heavy shooting at them. Gattling Turrets in bunkers are also a bit on the "Oh,God,WHY!?" zone,as well.

Spiders from Dark Messiah of M&M

Look at them. These buggers are part of the reason I hate spiders in games (I quite like them in real life). Seriously, these guys just live to wreck your shit.

Cliffracers are no longer a problem since I modded the game to make them peaceful, so I can travel in peace.

Also, honorable mention goes to whatever it was in the sewer level in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. And that one enemy you face in observatory. I hate you with passion

The first time I fought Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls, I put the controller down, shook my head and went out to get drunk.

There seems to be a big "Dark Souls is easy" movement on this and other boards, and I accept that it could be, but if you try to tell me O and S are included in that statement I'll laugh in your lying face.
They were easy...on playthrough 1.

And then came NG+...

I actually still haven't beaten them, although I haven't played since they nerfed how horribly lightning damage used to rape you so they might be legitimately easy now.

Mother. Fucking. Tallboys. No matter how damn hard I try, I can never get the tanks on their backs, and if I'm going for non-lethal it doesn't even matter coz they can see you no matter where you are from any height or distance and ruin your day just like fucking that.
I don;t know what you guys are talking about... I didn't get spotted by one ever... hell by the time they got introduced, I was such a stealth powerhouse with Blink and Agility maxed out, I would literally just fly through every level on the high road... I mean by end game, even if I did cock up the stealth, I could blink and jump to the other side of the map and avoid the alarm entirely without even using up my whole mana bar...<.<
I like to play slow and steady. Leap from vantage to vantage, always waiting for my mana bar to refill before making the next leap, keeping darkvision up and not to mention robbing everybody in the vicinity blind. The main level, though, was the Lord Regent, after getting past the aqua lock and heading towards the tower the one wandering around the statue kept spotting me. He was too far away and obscured for me to work out his movement path, and he'd always get me while I was waiting for a gap in the footsoldier patrols to hit the next vantage.

Oh, also I should point out I was trying to ghost it. I can't even describe how annoying they were when I was doing the evil run-through (and thus trying to kill them), but even when I was doing a stealth-em-up they'd always spot me and fire. Not necessarily fatal to mission completion, but they screwed up my ghost-runs any number of times

Are the Collectors any fun to play against? I haven't gotten Retaliation yet. Does Harbinger randomly appear?
I enjoy playing against the Collectors. Could be because they're new, but so much chaos ensues when facing them! If you don't move from cover much though, you're gonna have a bad time. Plus, they don't feel as cheap as other factions *cough*Geth*cough*.

And no Harby.

You just said it yourself they have a HOLE in the shield, whit a good sniper rifle just shoot trough the hole (im playing on 360 with a controller and is quite easy) just get a sniper whit a big magazine even if the damage isnt that great, in the long run 20 200dmg bullets is more than 6 500dmg ones, and the really big damage snipers usually comes whit only 3 bullet magazines and hell long reload times, also corrosive grenades do wonders whit these guys they actually make them raise theyr shields

I hate those damn shield carrying Bandits in Borderlands 2, the ones without a hole in their shield.
If you hit them with a rocket launcher they stagger and move their shield to one side. Alternatively, you can shoot a rocket near them and get them with splash damage. /problem

OT: Lisa from the Gamecube Resident Evil remake made me shit bricks back in the day. Every time you'd hear a door close and then chains dragging along the floor I'd just lose my shit. Actually, the Crimson Heads from the same game also made me drop the controller and run out the room. Also, I remember there was a guy in one of the lightgun RE games that had this big overcoat and a bald head and he would just randomly appear from time to time and slowly move towards you then snap into a sprint and his foosteps were so loud. And the chainsaw guys from RE4, and the guys that made that fucked up noise and shot out spikes from their body...

You know what? Fuck Resident Evil.

Well if we want to go on a nostalgia trip when I was younger and first played the Spider-Man movie game those Oscorp security robots terrified me. Then at the last level of the Oscorp infiltration parts where it showed that the alarms were all off and all of those bots were alerted to me at the start of the level I turned the game off and didn't return to it for months.

For more recent games... There is that one Collector thing in Mass Effect 2 I forget the name of. Flys slowly, has a ton of health, a barrier that regenerates when it makes a ground pounds, and a powerful laser weapon.

The Napalm zombie in the zombies map "Shangri-La" on Call of Duty: Black Ops I dread more then any other enemy type in the series.

The super soldier proto-types in Return to Castle Wolfenstein gave me a REALLY hard time.

Erm... That's all I can think of at the moment.

Centaurs from Fallout 3
Fallout 3 for the first few days was intimidating, hiding/running from raiders and mutant bears, trying to find a gun which isn't almost broken. Once you get to a comfortable point in the game, you walk into the city, and as soon as you see a centaur shuffle on all those hands, spitting toxic goo at both you and the laws of god/nature, you think, "Game over, game over man."

Black Knights in Dark Souls. In the very least, they don't respawn. However, anything that throws firebombs or those motherfucking thieves that can take out half of your health pretty much instantly come in a close second.

The Deus Ex: HR bosses. Especially, Yelena who could stealth and shock me from 100ft away. I recall dying 4-6 times with 30 secs and then dying 10 more times in under 2 minutes each. I might be exaggerating, but I do recall hating every second of that fight.
