As my dad just put it. It's world war 2 / 1 al over again. I forget which war, Im sure it doesnt matter.

I'm probably not going to watch this, though I predict a 1 - 1 draw.
Then in the finals the americans crush the german and japanese teams and we spend the next 70 years making movies and video games to pat ourselves on the back.

The other thing is that I just really wanted Lampard to score (my favorite player, after all), and he did, and it was awesome and it didn't count.
That's not nice.
Funny you mention Lampard, he was the one England player who looked like he really wanted to win. He had some great chances and seemed more passionate than the other spoiled divas.

And Beckham... Christ man, go back to making perfume ads with your wife.
Really? Why on Earth would you think that of Beckham? What the hell did he do wrong?

RAGE MODE ON

Disclaimer: Germans played well and it was a fair play game with no diving or cheating, which is rather refreshing. Fair play to them and i guess i'll be supporting them if my remaining choice of Mexico gets whupped later tonight.

Rooney: WTF? Most overrated overhyped waste of space for the whole tournament. Why some forumites here and england fans/media keep banging on about him is beyond me. He talks big and there was this big media buildup about how he was gonna finally score this time, and yup, it didn't happen.
He was worst then useless and you just know that only reason Heskey came on was to act as foil for him, so rooney ends up not just only using up his own space but that of another.

Meanwhile crouch, our most consistent striker and who even when he does't score plays a real role in the team+ guarantees we win the longball and any disputes in the air remains on the bench. The total opposite of rooney, you don't hear about this one yet he is our best striker, yet the waste of space rooney gets the spot instead based on "potential" and "maybe he's gonna actually be good this time!" wishful thinking. God i despite rooney with a passion, the overhyped pitbull who goes up and down the pitch barking impotently and is absolute fail.

England defence: Possibly one of the worst defensive displays i've EVER seen. David James seemed to rage at his defenders and quite rightly, even if everyone is gonna use him as a scapegoat as goalkeepers usually are with a scoreline like this, truth be told wtf could he do?
His defenders were useless and he was forced to cover the entire goal in almost ever single circumstance, compare that to the german defence who closed off angles and made shots difficult, poor James couldn't do jack when he has to cover everything and in one case, even being ganged on 2on1 (the 3 defenders being absolutely useless). Media are gonna have a field day ripping into Calamity James but he is not the one at fault ere ¬¬

RAGE!!!
Na, mate. No major mistake from james. The goalies only get blamed for howlers. Most english fans know he played well today, and so will the media.

Ok, so because England played bad for 30 minutes they deserved to have a goal disallowed? Get real.
What exactly are you talking about? Did I ever say that?

But they should've proven it fair and square.
How didn't they prove it "Fair and square"? It's not their fault the lines-man makes a mistake.
I am not saying Germany is at fault.
Your team is awesome and Muller is the man.
I must have said it wrong.
What I meant is "Germany should've had the opportunity to prove they are a better team in the game without atrocious game-changing mistakes".
On a side note, is that Zero Mostel in your avatar?
Yea, I completely agree. It sucks so much that this kind of shit keeps happening in football.

The ref's have been a disgrace in the World Cup so far. Someone needs to do something about it.

I have no idea, who that is in my avatar. All I know it's from the movie Producers and it strangely turns me on.
yeah it's Zero Mostel,

On topic just got back from watching the game in Hampstead and thought we were deservedly thrashed.

However its scandelous that in this day and age with the technology at out disposal that the second England goal was disallowed

I predict a depressing wall of crappy anti german racism when I enter the newsagent in the morning, with most of the papers shouting 'KRAUT NAZI FOKKER NEIN JERRY WWII SS GOOSESTEP' etc, etc plastered all over the most idiotic of the rags.

I was in WOW during the match, I didn't know it was on, but went to Dalaran (the main city in the game and where most chat goes on), and it felt like WOW had merged with the youtube comment section, it was horrible and depressing how many idiots feel it's ok to call all germans nazis, just because they're better at football than us. (especially when considering the bloody BNP got seats at the last election, we've probably got more nazis than Germany, tho I don't want to derail the thread).

Simple fix for the England team, pay them all £1000 a week, with a £10,000 bonus if they're not utterly shit and keep out of the papers all week, instead of just handing them ridiculous piles of cash no matter how they perform. Unfortunately, many of them are so rich already that I imagine even financial incentives will be worthless.

Honestly, tho, why not trade the lot of em in, and hire some promising talent from the up n coming players at £1000 a week? We'll probably not lose much in the way of skill, and have players who want to actually play.

To be honest, I wouldn't even want to become a footballer if you were going to pay me £300 a week.

This generation of England players is over, the next couple of years will pull in major changes!

I support a team of players that earn a pittance compared to Premiership players, and they would have got absolutely mauled.

Fair play to the Germans, it was an absolutely brilliant display of counter attacking football, I'm not ashamed to go out to such a good team performance.

Liked Beckhams waistcoat and shirt though..might have to look into that style.
It is a nice look.

OT: I've been supporting Germany anyway, and they deserved the win here. I do feel sorry for Lampard, though, he must be especially disappointed :(

I hope so cos poor guy was really in an impossible situation most of the time. Open goal to cover and no defenders in sight, it's a goalkeeper's worst nightmare D:

Argumentative fella, aren't ya?

Beckham... why was he even there? Moral support? It made them look like a joke to have that preening diva sitting on the bench in his Gucci suit shouting at them.

Fair enough I guess I just can't understand the money being thrown around the Premier League, when it just doesn't seem to happen in rugby, cricket, etc, and I can't help but feel it corrupts and it couldn't hurt to allow some young players in who really want it for the reason of playing for their country.

Note: I know nothing about football, but, this being the internet, suddenly feel completely equipped to comment upon it. :D

Yeah man!

What a great game. Great effort Germany and England.
First historic confrontation of this cup! Made me have faith in the overly boring WC again.

That's simple. The Premier League just brings in probably 10 times more money that any other sport played in England.

Probably, numbers might be high due to hyperbole. But yeah football makes a lot of money.

They are also one of the largest tax contributors in the country! People always forget that 50% of their wages usually go in tax, so they give a huge amount to the government.
