SO, punk as in the Sex Pistols etc.? Or a new definition of punk I've never heard of?

I believe you will find that you cannot kill the metal. No, the metal will live on.
Grunge tried to kill the metal... but it failed, as it fell to the ground...

Tenacious D for the win.

OH, but I feel it needs to be said that people who are thinking of posting in this thread need to...

Stop!
Take some time to think,
Figure out what's important to you.

(Okay, I'm done... but Rise Against is pretty awesome, neh?)

You're sick of metal...so you make a punk thread? Damn, I was coming in hoping for, I dunno...J-pop or Ska or Symphonic music.
Well, I don't know about J-Pop or Symphonic, as fantastic as they are, but I can bring some ska [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LdTi_PmFro]-punk [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VgNPdudsSo] love to bring it in line with the topic at hand.

That would have been awesome. "Screw Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Let's talk about Rachmaninoff and Mussorgsky!" I'd easily rate The Sacrilegious Scorn behind, say, Night on Bald Mountain.
I'd have to agree with you here. I'd much rather listen to say, this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlFnahc_OVs] than Cradle of Filth.

I hate music discussions on this site, because it eventually evolves into a big Death Metal/Hardcore shit-fest. Thankfully this thread started out as it.
I've noticed that, sadly, despite my efforts to turn the discussions towards power and symphonic metal.
I like how you think sir. How about showing some love for power metal, like Rhapsody of Fire [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHJLOGmXoUA], although I admit I know no symphonic metal bands.

Oh, also, OT: Dropkick Murphys, Rise Against, Offspring, Dead Kennedys and Greenday (specifically the early stuff) are all very good punk bands.

Yay punk, passion > musicianship any day of the week (even Tuesday)

I don't even know where to begin talking about punk I love the stuff so much, I guess mentioning some of my favourite bands would be OK though.

classic: Iggy And The Stooges, The Damned
hardcore: Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Gallows, Ghost of a Thousand
Power Violence: Surf Nazis Must Die, Frank castle Gonna Break Your Neck
Pop punk: Screeching Weasel, Osaka Popstar
Digital hardcore: Atari Teenage Riot, Lolita Storm

I strongly recommend all the above bands to everyone including the deaf.

No but i realy like punk and metal although im not a death metal or screamo
Nice hijacking there, friend. I like your style, and I like Anderson´s style. 10 points.

Well, I don´t really have anything else to add, since this will unlikely be a prog rock thread. Whatever pushes your buttons, it´s all fine.

I haven't read a single post in this topic.

Yay for stoner rock!

Boo to all 'queer' metal. You know which kind, the kind that puts the biggest metalheads to shame and disgrace. The metal that lives on hairspray and makeup AND the metal that needs tight leather pants and 'queer' facepaint to prosper.

I'm looking at -you-, Manowar, Kiss and all of you Eighties Glam Metalbands.

I think it's time we started a hardcore punk thread.

the majority of people who listen to metal say the like it because of how cathartic it is, the intensity of the music. In this person's opinion, hardcore is even more intense than metal, it's faster and louder and more crazy.

And let's not forget about grindcore, which mixes hardcore and metal to create some of the most chaotic, fast and mindblowing music out there.

oh, and im talking about oldschool hardcore, you know, the one that doesnt suck.

bam! begin

wow faster and louder thats a dumb thing to say

Yeah, this forum needs some semi-solids, maybe even some noble gasses!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Alright I could use one word or a paragraph or two. First my one word. No. And here's two words: get out. And now heres some more:

What the hell is this thread supposed to do? It will only make people(namely me) angry. There's nothing wrong with metal, or any other genre of music. I don't like many genres but that's an opinion. So really what I'm saying is..what the fuck if the purpose of this thread? Are you telling us you don't like metal? Are you saying punk is better than Metal? Either way, useless. the only discussion that will arise from that is angry flaming.

Right. Also for the record I'm a metalhead. Not so musch of a suprise eh? Well anyway when I say metalhead I mean the kind who realizes that metal was started in the late 70's and was the best in the 80's. The kind who think genres like deathcore and grindcore and nu-metal are a disgrace to the name of Metal as a genre. Metal isn't just about being fast, intense music. It's about musical talent, proper song composition, and lyrical meaning beyond that of most genres. So next time think before you post this crap.
You sir, are a genius. Very well put.

Any ways you punk fans don't even know what you're on about, clearly the best in the genre is and always has been Sham 69.
