Ouch... I guess Bob was quite pissed off about this movie.
I've never been a fan of the DC comics, but I do know a thing or two from watching the DC cartoons and the only thing I knew about Green Lantern was from the Justice League series and it was a pretty rad characterization of a character that I didn't know of, they even introduced a hefty amount of backstory and all the thing about the Lantern Corporation and all the alien mates of Green Lantern. Heck, he even was a pretty badass war veteran.
I guess I'll just have to avoid this movie. Oh well.
And for the record, I liked both Fantastic Four movies, they're definitely not the best super hero movies, but they were quite entertaining and light hearted.

Seriously, the downright catastrophic reviews I've been hearing are absolutely heart breaking to me. I love Green Lantern mythos. Scratch. I adore the Green Lantern. They have always been, by far, my favorite comic book heroes by the scale and list of powers, not to mention potential. All of which has been absolutely squandered here. This is, possibly, the worst thing I can imagine happening as a comic book fan. Warner Brothers needs to be fucking ashamed of what they've done, but they probably aren't. I'd be surprised if they give a shit, or even think anything is wrong.
Oh well.
Maybe they'll make a good one when I'm thirty. Cause lord fuckin' knows they won't try again before that.

In my mind, this was a cliched but passable movie. If you were to write a textbook on how to make a standard superhero film, this would get a mention. It's better than Steel and Batman and Robin. Those were gaudy monstrosities that really should never have been made. This was at least enjoyable.
But... That's my opinion and I await the people who severely hate this movie to reply to me saying I know absolutely nothing about film.

I'm not even a very big fan of the Green Lantern and I found this movie pretty awful. I did a little research before seeing the movie after watching the Big Picture episodes detailing the continuity of the Green Lantern, and I have to say that this movie drops the ball in every regard. There was one scene in particular that was so completely and utterly ridiculous that it violently shattered what little was left of my suspension of disbelief and distracted me for the remainder of the film.
Of course, anyone can correct me if I'm wrong about anything.
In the climax of the film, Hal Jordan is battling a giant Eldritch Abomination revision of Parallax in order to save Earth from being devoured. The battle begins on Earth, but quickly transitions out into space. In an attempt to out-maneuver the giant Cthulhu wannabe, Hal flies over to the left...into the asteroid belt. As in, the asteroid belt that lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, about 56 million miles (90 million kilometers) from Earth. That's hardly "next door". In any case, an homage (read: uninspired borrowing) of a famous Star Wars scene ensues as Hal deftly flies in between asteroids while Parallax gets bombarded.
Hal abruptly does a U-Turn, and in a few seconds they arrive at the fucking sun. It was as this point where I was done with this movie. From the asteroid belt, the sun is about 251 million miles (404 million kilometers) away. Traveling at the speed of light, it would have taken Hal and Parallax about 22.5 minutes to reach the Sun (That is, if I'm doing my math right). This means that as the Green Lantern, Hal Jordan can break the speed of light barrier at least twenty times over.
I know it's just a movie (a comic book movie at that) and that I have to hold my suspension of disbelief a little high sometimes, but this was just plain too much for me. Even for a comic book movie, this was completely ridiculous.

I was very excited for this movie. It's shocking how much hammering it has received from critics. I guess I'll steer clear from it for now until I can steam it for free. 
I'm a Green Lantern fan and I enjoyed the film. There are better superhero films and this could have been a lot better, but I wouldn't have said it was any where near as bad as Bob's review. I really wanted this film to excel as GL is my favourite character in this summer's film line up, but it was average as superhero films go.
I don't think this will make people rush out to buy the comics (which is a shame as they are really good), but if you're prepared to be a little forgiving and you like superhero films then it's worth a watch.

I have a date to go see this with some friends later in the week (don't worry Bob, we're not going this weekend, breathe dude, breathe), and I wasn't really expecting it to be any good. I found Rise of the Silver Surfer semi-tolerable (I was REALLY bored), so I expect it won't be painful for me to sit through it. And it's my friend's birthday.
I think Bob might have issues... But hey, if he says it's a piece of crap, then it probably is, and therefor not worth my time. Can't wait for Captain America though...

I don't mind the rest of the post, since, hey, you have a right to your opinion. But this line is where I take issue. Partially because comparing those to the trailers for this, Batman and Robin was subtle. Everyone looks like they've got Cortana's glowing skin effect here, with the gamma turned to 11.tehweave said:

But PLEASE don't get me wrong, the Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies and it's one of the best superhero movies ever made, but it's not really a "comic book" superhero movie because Nolan took away the elements of it that make it seem "comic book-ey"
