the only point i disagree on - I thought Eli Roth was terrible in it, way over-acted and obnoxious. But thank god there was only a little bit of him, and for what little he did he did manage the role well enough.

Other than that I was amazed that I liked it better than District 9. yea, it's that good. The last scenes of the movie are PRICELESS - YOU MUST SEE THIS IN THEATERS.

Although i sincerely doubt you'll read anything on the third page and beyond, i'll still jot this down.

While the review was captivating me, i get the slight impression that you - how do i put this - get too far into movie lingo. The way you described this movie was in far more emotional and in metaphorical speech than the audience is used to. This much to the chagrin to the Yahtzee/Michael Bay blows Donkey Balls crowd.

I would like to thank you for doing your research, both implicitly Das Goebbels-Experiment and explicitly Zwartboek (Paul Verhoeven surprises).

P.S. "And labyrinthine dialogue." To which i ask; what genre do you think is next?

Will gladly see you next time,

On Nazis as Acceptable Targets:

The videogame industry practically thrives on this.
Nazis, zombies, aliens and commies. You are correct.
Interesting to point out how this and last week's great movie District 9 are so closely tied to video-game conventions - District 9's introduction of alien weaponry reminded me very much of the player's transformation in Quake 4, as well as countless other video games that rely on the same mechanic.

ONE of my reviews of the film: (FEEDBACK WELCOME!!(I know it could be even more detailed)

A GLORIOUS film:
Its is one of the best Movies in ages, and I am a very hard critic now-adays:p
Tarantino is allways hard to analyze, because allot of the things that make him a great director/script writer, is also at times an irritating factor.
The script for this film I though was apsolutly fenomenal. Allot of people find his dialogues at times overdone and unnessesary, but in IB every word, every character conversation was spot on. I personally loved the 20 min-something conversation at the opening because it was so well delivered, it was such a tense scene, and now that I know what it lead to, It showed such directorial and written inteligence. Christoph Waltz gave his performance as the "The Jewhunter" such dept and character. Eevry line in the whole film made me thing "Wow, this is a great actor". Mélanie Laurent (Shosanna) was another (of the many) great performances in the film. The strength in that woman was ,understadebly, admirable. I loved her whole story within the film. Brad Pitt is also still evovling into such a diverse (while still having that certain Pitt charm) and powerfull actor. His character served as a comic relief, in an otherwise very stong patriotic film. His wit was spot on. The Basterds as well, with very detailed bi-characters were great.
Martin Wuttke as Hitler also suprised me, thinking he would be very cartoony, which he was, but he had so much strength AND volnerability behind him.
On the whole, all the character, small or large delivered believable performances. Mike Myers even ALMOST managed to hide his longing to do facial expressions, which I found so funny I had to laugh making everyone in the cinema look at me funny:p. I also found it fun seeing the main "bad-guy" from the great Norwegian film "Max manus" Ken Duken in a minor part in the background.

The music, and lack of music was also a great aspect of the film. Hightening the scenes and creating an even more epic feel to some of them. Camera shots were well thought out, and at times comical. (scene with the german hostage, pitt and the translating "Baster")

Like someone said on a site somewhere, it was very much a "Genre" film, and almost cartoony in it deliverance of violence and action. I loved it, and it is a film im buying on release to watch again and again. One of the best films in ages, and top 3 tarantino films. Great casting, great performances, action, great subtle and not so subtle humour, well written, well directed, generally fenomenal and at times VERY HARD HITTING!

Just saw it, and it was excellent. Bob was right on with the review.

District 9 was similarly good.

Saw it last night and loved it. Quite a spot-on review. Honestly, I think this is the first movie I saw that you reviewed, and agree with you completely, so maybe I'll check out the other movies you recommend.

Well that is true, isn't the majority of Hollywood funded by Semites?, I like the comment Bob made about the Movie being propaganda, essentially in this day and age the media controls the people. its a nice touch by Tarantino to make such a statement in the film, and good of MovieBob to spot it.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA! Hold on there, friend ;) I imagine you probably didn't mean it to sound as such, but that sounded a LITTLE BIT too close to "the Jews control the media" for my tastes; and since you invoked my name and put a word or two in my mouth, I feel the need to respond and set my own record straight. If you've been misunderstood, feel free to set your own as well ;)

Firstly, I did NOT say that this film is "propaganda," I pointed out that one of it's principal characters is Josef Goebbles, Hitler's Minister OF Propaganda. Secondly, I don't put much stock in "media control the blank" conspiracy stuff of any sort.

Regarding the film's "Jewish vengeance" angle, there's not much to "spot." It's right out there in the open: The film is EXPLICITLY a meant-to-be-enjoyed revenge-fantasy...
There's also no such thing as a "Semite."

"Semitic" refers to people who speak the Semitic languages, like Arabic, Hebrew and Amharic. However, after being used in racist books and essays in the mid-to-late 1800s, the term evolved to specifically denote Jews. Thus, anti-Semitism and anti-Semite are words, but "Semite" is not, and even if you say "Semitic" you're still not talking about Jews exclusively. However, when you say something like that, people will know that you're talking about Jews and they will assume it's a slur. Fair warning.

Inglourious Basterds and District 9 have renewed my faith that there's actually going to be some good things out of Hollywood this year.

The movie is beyond brilliant - though I disagree with MovieBob's summation that Kill Bill is at all Quentin Tarantino's 'shining jewel.' That movie was decent, but Inglourious Basterds was far better.

"Jewish revenge" movies? Is that as stupid as it sounds?

I didn't see this movie, mostly because the whole "Nazi killing" thing isn't that cool with me, as both sides of my family fought in WWII, for Germany.
i think you should watch this movie. besides the over played hitler almost all the other germans are actually really human. like Hans the private they meet in the bar whose celebrating his newborn son with his friends. or even fredriech the young war hero, he was just a niave kid. but one of my favourite scenes would have to be

when the "jew bear" is about to execute a german sergant he points his bat at one of the medals on the guys uniform and says, "you get that for killing jew?" then the german replies "for bravery". that gave me shivers because it made the character a real person not just some cardboard cut-out character that gets juxtaposed into a movie for some rambo wannabe to kill.

Am I the only one who thought pulp fiction was one of the worst movies ever made?
I love all of Tarantino's work except that, well I guess I didn't care much for Death Proof either but that beside the point.
