I actually can't believe I am half coming to the defense of this movie, but I think the only reason I am is because of a few points made.

#1- In actual demon mythology if you were to make a sacrifice of someone who was not a virgin the exact thing that would happen ... well happened. So not really bad plot 'writing' as it was cut and paste from an actual form of mythology. So I can't find a reason to knock that,.
You seem well versed in actual demon mythology. Do you think you could recommend a book or two of the actual demon mythology variety? Because last time I checked, pretty much every faith in the past millennia or so has it's own form of "demons", and I'm pretty sure hardly any of them had anything to do with sacrifices, virgin or not.

Except, of course, actual demon mythology.
I'm sorry but you fail. I didn't like some of those 90s bands until late 2000 well past the age of twelve. Also Pirates of the Carribean (sp), just the first one, is a good film, its entertaining in many ways.
Which you kind of proved my point, seeing as how you ripped on the 80's and you weren't obviously 12 back then.

Besides, it's just a fucking webcomic. If you get that upset over some words and images, then criticizing time periods should be the last thing you should be worrying about...

Pretty good review, and that main plot (The whole evil indie band thing) seems extremely, well, stupid.
The only thing I would argue is that I wouldn't really say this is like Twilight in that whole abstinence thing you talked about, just for the fact that if she was a virgin, she would just be dead...

I actually thought the movie wasn't half bad. Yes, it's not exactly brilliant, but it's fun for what it is, and Amanda Seyfried MORE than makes up for Megan Fox. I actually think Seyfried's character is one of the most interesting characters in any recent horror movie that had the misfortune of being a teenage girl.

I do think the film would have been more interesting without the fancy origin story for the demon, if she'd just been a demon with no explanation or justification. But I suppose that would have ruined the dynamic between the two main characters.

Still waiting for Ponyo.

The Megan Fox's hotness is relative and Bob does a good job conveying it. Yes, she is attractive, but you'll likely see women as attractive in everyday situations. You don't need to know someone with connections to meet women who are Megan Fox good looking. So the idea of spending $10+ on a trip to the movies to see a bad slasher flick because Megan Fox is in it is just silly.

On the topic of Juno I too seriously disliked Jennifer Garner's character, but then I've had similar problems with whoever Garner plays, regardless of the film. I think someone else may have been better able to sell the perception transition from disapproving grade school teacher (as one poster put it)to a person Juno would ultimately sympathize and side with.

I tend to agree with Movie Bob. It isn't that I'm a yes man, it's that I've run independent trials. Sometimes I see the movie then the MB review, sometimes the other way around. Usually the result is the same, I agree with the major points and can debate the minor ones because I'm a tad geeky and splitting hairs for the sake of interesting conversation is my idea of a fun time on t3h intarnets. It's this or porn.

The minor point I'd like to contest is that I find Megan Fox
1) attractive. Please don't jump on the media bandwagon and act like you wouldn't have sex with her.
2) being thrashed by the media. We're being brainwashed to hate this girl and I don't do that without fair interaction.

I'm not going to see Jennifer's Body so I have to take MB's word on this one. I have to say I forgave her in Transformers. After all, the director didn't give her much to do other than bend over a Camaro and later in the film, run. Not her fault. I'm a little dismayed to hear that she had a bit more space to run around in this time and didn't use it well. Her future success will depend on her dedication to improving the craft. Will Smith's acting got better over time--or at least the industry found roles he's especially good at. Perhaps Ms. Fox can find the same, and secure a promising career in a spectacular, 14th-minute save.

Sometimes I think in crayon.

To those who are sick of hearing about how awful Michael Bay is, a metaphor:
If you open a door to a room that smells like monkey shit, to find it filled with monkeys and one gorilla, does the room still smell like monkey shit?

To put it less metaphorically, Hollywood (specifically the studio system) is filled with assholes out to make a buck. A few of them have talent, and fewer still have talent that can make the assholes money. When talent isn't required to make a movie profitable, assholes feel better about giving hamfisted morons (like Michael Bay) excruciatingly large budgets to make the equivalent of medical grade monkey shit. The worst part is that they know they'll make money, before they even make the movie, because there is a perceived "need" for the content.

The argument is that film quality is not the same as profitability, and it's just a sad truth. We're seeing some serious diminishing returns happening, caused by the blockbuster system. The marketing people run the show, not the director, the actors, or anyone else. Michael Bay is just the best example of why profitable film making is rarely of high quality.

On "high quality":
From a mathematical standpoint, which the profit-based system works from, a film's quality is a representation of a return on investment. Spending 200 million dollars, knowing you'll make at least double that in profit means you've made a film of high quality. "It must have been good, for so many people to have paid for it." From the doe-eyed standpoint of the aspiring film maker, quality is a measure of an audience's change of perception after watching your creation. Spending 20 bucks, knowing every single person who sees your crappy little flick has a new point of view on the world is what it means to make a quality film. "It must have been good for so many people to be talking about it."

Summation: we'll stop beating Michael Bay into the ground once he stops getting back up. Then, we'll find some other gorilla to gang up on for bullying us all into buying his monkey shit. Get used to it, or help us figure out a way for the less-marketable movies to be more widely received.

Megan Fox isnt hot. shes braindead (she has compared the director for a movie shes in with Hitler), her "hotness" is too cliche´d and, yeah, you get the idea.

if i want some good boobs and titties, id go for someone who has the brains too.

Moviebob, I just thought I'd finally post to review your work.

Note that I'm nowhere near the kind of insecure, mediocre pissant who calls anything and everything brilliant, the writers of Youtube comments saying things like, This was awesome! and LOLOLOLOL.

No no, I believe only real talent should be applauded, because encouraging these meaningless, unfunny, uninteresting skid marks will only make them want to create more mediocre reviews/comedy sketches/stories/art/whatever. It's extremely rare that I like someone's work enough to actually praise it. It takes a true genius like Yahtzee to really move me.

That said, your work is of very high quality, and you deserve to be paid well for it. You fall somewhat short of true greatness in my opinion, but you're definitely light years ahead of the huge majority of your peers. You can come off a little pretentious at times, but that's something I personally admire, since I myself am pretty pretentious. But that's not even a complaint, just an observation.

So anyway, keep making reviews and I'll keep watching them. Best of luck!

Yeah, also, what's the big controversy over Megan Fox? She's not the first hot-but-stupid female celebrity to come along, not by a long shot.

She's hot, she's stupid... What's the big deal?

Finally someone voices an opinion about Megan Fox I agree with. I am so tired of having her shoved down my throat and I hope this movie tanking gets her out of the limelight.

And, yes, I'd probably still do her. But I wouldn't be proud of it.

Agree with everything except "90's horror sucked".
What about Silence of the Lambs and Seven, eh?

Although those are more like thriller movies, but still.
Hmmm, well it's a decade later and the current decade always knocks the one before it to become "cooler" and achieve it's own identity. Back in the 1990s consider that people knocked 1980s horror movies (Video Nasties and all), now you see a lot of people looking back at them and realizing how much they kind of pioneered and a lot of those movies get more respect (so to speak) as classics. Hellraiser, Friday The 13th, and others all continueing as reasonably strong franchises in comic spin offs and such. We all know who Freddie, Jason, and Pinhead are, and it's probably fairly difficult to find someone who doesn't admit it.

"Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last summer", were fairly good and innovative even if they got milked with sequels. It's not surprising that they inspired imitators, though we're currently at a point where it will be a few years before anyone is going to really give them much credit. On some levels I think Moviebob himself is trying to be "hip" by knocking them. He is correct though that Jennifer's Body was NOT a great movie, and was cashing in on the wrong vibe at the wrong time.

As far as Meagan Fox goes, I think you have to view her as a 'B' girl. Moviebob acts like she's making some kind of pretensions of being a great actress or something, I have NEVER gotten that impression. Part of her appeal for me at least is that she's a hot girl who seems to be having fun doing science fiction and horror movies, and can make them a bit more bearable with the eyecandy. If she started making pretensions of being a great actress and trying to hold down "serious" dramas and chick flicks, I'd sort of agree with Moviebob, but in reality it seems she's doing the Julie Strain thing, which I kind of wish more actresses would.

Also to be entirely fair, I think that Moviebob pays too much attention to what she does wrong acting, rather than what she does right. To use Jennifer's Body as an example, she does manage to do a fairly good job in some of the monster scenes holding feral/animal-like poses. Her malevolent smirks are also fairly good, in the over the top fashion the movie is going for.

Yes, her co-star was more talented than she is as far as acting, but then again her co-star was arguably the protaganist in the story and got more screen time. The role Megan was playing was a bloody B-movie monster, it wasn't supposed to be a stand out dramatic performance.

As far as her being hot in a fairly "typical" way like a girl you can see at the beach or at a mall, that is exactly the point and why she's used. The roles she's put in are (duh) fairly ordinary girls that they want to be hot. In Jennifer's body she was supposed to be the quintessential hot girl you could find at ANY school (as a stereotype). She wasn't supposed to be an exotic, otherworldly beauty. She's good in that kind of a role which is what they use her for.

Now I doubt anyone read all this (especially Movie Bob) and I guess it comes down as a bit more of a defense of Meagan Fox than I intended, but the bottom line is simply that I'm glad to see someone doing these kinds of roles which frankly a lot of actresses would turn their noses up at.

I seriously hope she becomes the B-movie goddess of the current generation. She doesn't have to act well, simply make "fun" (if not "good") movies.
