-People being racist-

Moviebob: WHAT THE HELL YOU GUYS ARE EVIL

-People making fun of religious people-

Moviebob: HELL YEAH GUYS YOU'RE GREAT

gah

seriously what the hell

also I feel obliged to point out that that Jeff Dunham was

a) Making fun of terrorists specifically, not all arabic people

b) bringing a stereotype out and ridiculing it, a good thing against racism.

I'm not even religious, but you seem to have not thought this through.
well making fun of somebody because of something they can't change is worse than making fun of somebody for something they can.

And he's not really against religous people, just the ID people, and to be fair it is a bad argument.
It's a bad argument, sure. From our perspective. But to them it's not. Asking them to change their view on something they hold this dear is like asking a person to give up their cultural heritage because it's "dumb".

There is no real way to validate this, Moviebob's just a hypocrite.

For the last few weeks, the link to the Intermission column has been broken from the video page (it always links to last week's Intermission), but this is the first time I can't even find it from Bob's profile.

What gives, Escapist?

I'm all for a Pegg/Frost team-up. Just might go see this one.

Can I correctly assume that the people getting screwed in the screw-you moments are people that believe ID to be 100% undeniable irrefutable fact? Because those people are nuts. ID is a theory, nothing more, and should be taught and treated as such. It could be wrong or it could be right, possibly fact and possibly fiction, like the existence of extraterrestrial life, the presence of a divine universal (un)consciousness and the humanity of Jack Thompson.
To be fair, though, evolution is just a theory too. Some people take evolution as a 100% undeniable irrefutable fact. I think that some people in this thread are getting Intelligent Design mixed up with Creationism, which is kinda what MB did in his review when he flashed the picture of the ad for the Creationism Museum while talking about Intelligent Design.

Aww man, and i was looking forward to this movie, why does it have to poke fun at creationism and American Christian values, the problem with that is that outside of the US no one is going to find that amusing, for the first 16 years of my life i didn't know that people actually believed in that and for people who are not on the reddit and other sites that routinely makes a big deal about that some people believe in that they wont get it, at best its just going to seem mean that they would attack peoples beliefs in what appeared to be a light hearted comedy, actually from the reviews i have read it seems rather "Americanized" with the slapstick humour and out of place sudden romance, not that there's anything wrong with that but i think I'll wait a year until its in the 2 euro bargain bin.

Evolution is not a theory, the "theory" in the theory of evolution refers to a scientific theory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_theory.

If there is not a single American Dad joke in this movie I will be delightfully surprised and happy. Though it is a film from Europe so there probably won't be. Its just that it looks so similar. All they're missing is a german fish.

Well your mostly right about Battle L.A. Bob but I think you did miss a couple things. Even thought all the soldiers are characters that ether fit into a stereo type or a template we have seen before the movie makes an effort to show them as being human and relatable. Unlike the hilariously evil soldiers in 28 days later or the hyper-heroic characters in games like Gears of War or Halo. Not saying that it was brilliant but it seems like the movie was working for it.

O also there was an overarching theme in Battle LA. "SOMETIMES LIFE JUST ISN'T FAIR". You might think its just part of the overused "war is hell" theme but a big point is made of exactly what is going on in the lives of the Marines just before the invasion starts. Basically there is never a good time for the $#!t to hit the fan.

I personally could have done without all the close ups of the actors faces looking grim with the sappy music playing in the background FOR THE ENTIRE THIRD ACT OF THE MOVIE, and the ending was kinda lack luster.

If a mentally challenged Person drooled on your Shoe, would you kick him in the Head and call him a retard?

I doubt it.

However, that is what this movie does. It attacks Creationism, which is in my Book the result of a mental Disability.

Okay,Bob and the entire rest of the Escapist community. You're atheists. I get it. Do you find it absolutely necessary to be such dicks about it? You're entitled to your opinion, obviously. I'm not trying to claim that you're wrong. But why do you feel the need to, in your own words, "give a big 'screw you' to the Intelligent Design community"? Do you honestly think it makes you seem more credible? Do you think you're somehow converting the believers? Or is it just because our opinions differ from yours? Because there's a word for someone who's so petty they denounce any opinions that differ from theirs, and the word in question is "asshole".

Furthermore, why can't we all be right? I personally think that evolution is the best explanation for life on Earth, as there's so much evidence. I also believe that there is an omnipotent, omniscient, but not necessarily kind creature who began the whole process, and choose to call this creature God. If you don't like that second part, then feel free to disagree. But why must you take personal offense to it? Are you really that childish?

I hope I've made you all think, although I somehow doubt it.

More on topic, this movie looks like crap to me. Seth Rogen = do not want.

Wait, what? Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are in this!? I didn't recognize Pegg in the trailer because of the hair! I'm so seeing this, then.

And in case anyone was wondering the same thing as I was, from Wikipedia:

A third film, provisionally titled The World's End,[2][3][4] is planned for the future. This third film is not to be confused with another Pegg/Frost film, Paul (2011), which Wright was not involved with.

1. Fun fact: Spaced was Nick Frost's first acting job, and he got it purely because he was Simon Pegg's best mate. Needless to say this worried more than a few execs.

2. Thanks for spoiling the bird joke for me.
The bird joke has been in a lot of the trailers already. o_O

OT: I'm going to see this movie soon. My mom and dad called me on the phone to tell me they were going to see it as well since it seems like their kind of humor. Thanks for the video Bob.

And on a side note, I keep getting more pumped up for Captain America. That movie looks freaking sweet. Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull was the best possibly casting choice in my opinion. He played the villian role well and is generally a great actor. I'm still a bit nervous having Chris Evans as Cap, but he does look the part.

Yeah well I hadn't seen it. Whoever was responsible, MovieBob or the guys who made the trailer, they just destroyed the entire comedic payoff of that scene. Effectively rendering the scene pointless, unless it has some important relevance later in the film (and I don't want to know if it does).

Well, now I'm definitely going to see it for the 'Screw You ID' factor. Thanks Bob!
Same here. I wasn't interested because Seth Rogan was going to portray a stoner. Oh how original. *rolls eyes* But since it *****-slaps ID, I'm all for it.
So you're going to go spend $10 to watch people make fun of other people you don't like (considering that the bits where they make fun of this group will only add up to a few minutes total)? You were completely uninterested in it before-hand, but now that you know it spends a few minutes taking pot-shots at people whose views you disagree with, you're ready to shell out money to see it.

You are.... some kind of person.

Firstly, "Paul" is a good movie. It's not as good as "Shaun of the Dead" or "Hot Fuzz" but I regard those as pretty damn funny movies so that's not to say that "Paul" is in any way bad. The anti-creationism bits did seem a little strong. It's not at all subtle, Paul basically just outright says that intelligent design is a load of bullshit and persistently insults the religious characters for believing in it. Hey, it made me laugh but I still felt it was a bit harsh when there's still no shortage of people who believe in this stuff.

As for Battle: LA, it's exactly what you expect. I saw it and had a blast because I got exactly what I was expecting out of it. Let me summarise: lots of action, not much of anything else. But if that's what you're in the mood for then it certainly delivers. I did also think that it was an interesting concept showing an alien invasion from a military point of view when it's usually just a few civilian survivors running around.
