I myself would LOVE to join the army as I find myself to be an acceptable leader and a good comrade in war. The pay is good (or so I have heard) and the ranking system is something I hope to one day climb up and eventually become a General.

However, this task might be hard since
1) I have Aspergers. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspergers_syndrom] It's a double-edged blade however as I have a GREAT interest in the military and all about it, but I have the attention span of a peacock... Or something else that gets easily distracted.
2) I THINK I'd have the guts to desert the military if I found something wrong in my point of view... Which wouldn't make me a reliable soldier or a platoon leader.

But as for now, I'm in no such military force, homeland or otherwise. I'm not even a security guard.

PS: I am Swedish, and we have a different system here by now.

My GF went to West Point and served in the US Army until she was medically discharged (she retired a Captain).

She's still working for the government, tho.

I was GOING to join the Navy (yay squids!), but I wasn't able to work in my chosen field, and was turned off by the idea after they continued to recruit me heavily despite my wanting to take the time to reconsider whether I'd join up (and choosing a career I had NO interest in) or not.

I almost joined something similar to the National Guard, here in my country, but an accident took that option away from me. I would have loved to do so. If I were one of them I would probably have the option to go overseas aswell, to Angola and Haiti among other countries, for peacekeeping tasks.

Why do you? This is a gaming site, I can't imagine a great number of us would take actually being shot at when we can just pretend to get shot at in a game.

I'd never join the army; I could never wake up that early.

.....Im a gamer...... and I usually wake up about 3-5 A.M. for some reason................

I THINK...you are just being lazy....

OT: Talking with a Marine recruiter currently. Im actually surprised there is a WAITING LIST...of all things...... to go to BT.

current plan is to be on active duty by the end of the year, and taking a second language class.
Why............ are you speak............ing.... like this..............?

I plan on joining the British Army's Royal Engineers or Artillery Regiment as a regular eventually. As soon as I'm 18 to 20, or so, I want to.

Latvian National Guard.

Was supposed to go ISAF 10/1, but they cancelled us and sent regulars instead.

Now considering joining regular army.

Hell no. I will defend my country if it is directly attacked but detest any soldier who goes elsewhere to fuck with some poor other country and its citizens.
To me, if you participate in the war in iraq then you are every bit as guilty as that lying fuck Bush and should be branded a war criminal.

So no, I will never join any armed forces on moral grounds.
Presumably you don't count Al Qaeda as war criminals, even though they fucked with us first?

I'm in ROTC right now and Ranger School is one of my first stops after I graduate. My great uncle was a captain in the Green Berets during Vietnam and did three tours. He's a great guy(admittedly a little crazy) and I'm really looking forward to following in his footsteps.

I'm considering the TA, but I'm put off by the fact that they seem to be deploying them anyway, even though they are the final line of defence. Seriously, it must be hell for British troops right now, espically with the new budget. No new search and rescue helicopters, and slashes for public sector, when they are underpaid and under equiped? Not good.

Active duty USN. Just hit my three year point a few months back.

I don't get all this hate for servicemembers. All I wanted was to play with big multi-million-dollar computer systems with a minimal amount of schooling and a modest paycheck. Which is totally what I get to do. I gotta say, its been worth the time. I also managed to get aboard the good ship lollipop, also known as LCC 20, a ship stationed in Italy, that spends half the year traipsing about Europe for the sole purpose of carting around an Admiral to show other nations how much money we blow on floating walkie-talkies.

Hey, I just left that place a few days back. I yelled at a cook (while slightly intoxicated) for serving me curry in a tortilla and claiming it to be "Fajita Pollo". And yes, it is as bad as it sounds.

Well not all military jobs involve activity and shooting. There's all the intel and communication jobs, medical work, catering etc

But on topic not really interested in anything which aids conflict

I'm not in the Army but I told my 7th grade P.E. class that I "fought my way through 'nam wearing nothing but a pair of pink Hot-pants!"
