One more thing- how is it that when I talk to people IRL about general relativity, they just look at me like I'm speaking another language, but on the internet everyone I meet understands current science?

I'm quoting both of you because I figure that you (hiei82) wouldn't do the "reletivity two week time skip" thing without prompting/permission from the GM (Asclep).

What I want to say is this: I'm not asking you to undo the decision or anything, I just want you to know my (and by extension Aiber's) opinion. The idea that a Black Hole/Singularity/whatever can change the flow of time is bullshit. Time is an illision, it is just how we identify the continued existence and performance of action of atoms and groups of atoms (simple version: "Time" is just what we call "stuff happening"). The concept of time is entirely in our heads (thus, an illusion) and a physical force like gravity couldn't possible change something that doesn't actually exist. I would have no problem if you ment it seemed to everyone like it took 2 weeks, but you made it seem like we had actually just skipped 24 rotations of the earth. Gravity cna slow things down to the point that it changes the way we perceive time, but even then, it is just affecting our speed. And even for it to do that The force of gravity it would be creating would literally vaporize the entire city and everything in it. So... If I can stop it from sucking us in and giving us the gravity crunch, then how could the perception altering effects of the gravity still "change time"?

*gasps for air* Okay, so sorry for dumping all that unpleasant nerd juice in your eyes, but I just wanted you to know that even as far as scifi-soft-science, you might as well have said "and the angel threw them all in a dalorean set for two weeks in the future.".

Holy crap you guys are on this. I didn't even consider time dilation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitational_time_dilation

Viking Incognito: You at least see the logic of his post? If time is an illusion, then it is an illusion that can be measured. Einstein proved that time and space are the same thing, and something that affects one also affects the other. This is a bigger concept than I could explain here, so here's a far smarter man than I who talks about it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghHtsy7mta8

Think of the three physical dimensions of your body as a point. Then, think of yourself in the future in a different position. Another point. And the line between them would be the fourth dimension of time. For a being that perceived time above four dimensions, that's what a human would look like- a long, amorphous thread; birth, life and death all laid out in the one space. Theoretical physics says that we have the perception of free will because there's not just one single timeline, but branching out into the Fifth dimension. Everything that's ever going to happen has already happened, every possibility exists as fact, as completed events, and how we act places us on these branching possibilities. Wrap your head around that 0_o .

As for whether I allow it? I like how it makes the Angel seem unearthly, but honestly I think a force of gravity large enough to cause noticeable time dilation would rip the fuck out of the continent. Even the gravity of Earth causes time to dilate only by millionths of a second. So no, not to that level. I applaud the idea, though.
Wow lots of things have happened since my lunch post.

Frankly, I was going with time dilation because it is both dramatic and arguable considering modern understanding of science.

I fall into the time is just another dimension like height, width, and depth crowd: if only because time dilation is measurable and, as an engineering student, I like "measurable and provable" over "cannot trust our own senses". If time dilation is good enough for Einstein and General Relativity (the rate of time is slower near an object of greater gravity) is required for GPS to work; I believe in it. As for the "everything is predestined" bit involving the fifth dimension; Heisenberg proved something like free will exists so I don't even pretend to grasp the minutia in that discussion

As for permission - never did ask did I (sorry). I just ran with the idea because it was the first thing that popped in my head and it created additional tension (the writer in me loves the drama). I will edit it away given the negative feedback, though I'm keeping the bit about clocks being off; I like the line too much to sacrifice it.

Side Note: Are we really arguing real science in a game with giant robots cloned from Pseudo-divine beings that create energy fields that defy physics? (not to mention the Progressive chain-saw sword) I think there's a joke about cat-girls exploding in here somewhere but I'm too lazy to come up with it.
My objection was this- The gravitational singularity was up for, what- maybe fifteen seconds? And it dilated time by two weeks? I couldn't even begin to calculate the forces involved, whether it destroys the solar system, Earth, or just the western half of Africa. But if "wiping out the country" isn't a good enough analogy, it's a lot more than what you could fucking survive.

So just tone it down- a few hours, a day, etc. It was an interesting direction. I hate saying 'no' to people when they've put effort into creating something. I just want it to stay coherent and- even if it's fiction- not be overwhelmed by internal inconsistencies. Okay?
Works for me, I figured that the A.T. Field (being the canonical B.S. engine that it is) stopped the damage, but could not stop the singularity itself. Either way, editing it away now (though honestly I'm scratching my head looking for something else to say)

I blame the subsection of the internet you talk to. You're on a video gaming site (already interested in the latest and greatest in technology) with a bunch of Role-Players (read: stereotype nerd's) Of course we love strange scientific things - they are strange and defy common sense sometimes

Answer: Nature of the beast

Honestly, I was surprised you guys knew what the hell I was saying. Hell, I'm surprised I knew what the fuck I was saying. I'm in 10th grade. I'm just a massive nerd who is way to good at discerning complex things and ideas form small beginning clues (in this case a 20 minute video on black holes from last year's science class and a general familiarity with relativity).

Wow. That seems more confusing to me than my breathless rant about black holes affecting the space time continuum. I can't tell if I'm so smart that I make myself dumb, or if I'm just getting over-excited.

The game is usually slow on Saturday. Combine that with the huge tension cut at the end of the last fight, and the fact that CJ1145 is at a con (the name of which escapes me at the moment) and BANG, of course no one said anything.

Heck, it took me a giant post to just set up some momentum.

I personally would like a bit of time to reset to normal mode before Cthulhu attacks again

Yeah sorry, it's been a busy week for me as well but I shall get to posting! Because I haven't posted in a while either and I wasn't quite sure on what the plan was for retrieving the data off of Owen's computer.

No, I think it would be best if some of us tied up some personal plot threads or whatever first.

I am just getting back from the con tonight so I would appreciate a day or so more of casual time. But that's just me.

But of course, why rush?

Oh and while I'm here, are my post too long? Cause if it's a bother I could shorten them a bit. I just sorta start and don't realize how long I've been typing. But the exposition, mother of God, how I love the exposition.

What are you talking about. No one here ever makes long posts.

*starts whistling*

Non-snarky/sarcastic response: Doesn't really bug me, but I'm pretty long winded as well so I'm hardly the best judge.

I have no room to judge. If you saw the walls of text I did in previous RPs, you would have a heart attack.

As far as I can tell, Pollux wishes to be something more to Thirteen while Fifteen wants to be with Rev but(forgive if I'm wrong) hasn't quite seen that yet and is kinda oblivious to just how far Fifteen wants him.

Clones amirite?

Pretty much, but Rev doesn't think that Thirteen is Fifteen. He can tell the difference. He's just really, really shocked that he managed to be there for half the conversation and they went through all that without even noticing him.

Fun fact: The Tattletale was written as just a mass produced bio-engineered thing for Seele. But the creature has been given a name and personality and played like a sentient being. This raises the idea that Tattletales may develop individual traits from their hosts, even become aware of their nature as derived from divinity. Characterization marches on! :D
Apparently... I sort of went with that it was basically a cloned version of that little Adam embryo thing from the anime. (The whole "God is with you" line gave me the idea) As a result:

1) It's slightly divine - only real power is the ability to sense angels and knowledge of them

2) Being implanted entry plug style, it had to be able to pilot me like an Eva (I mean, come on ^_^) - Of course, now I'm imagining Owen creating A.T. Fields and I just refuse that idea on the principle of the whole thing. I mean, I designed Owen as a character that Eva's were supposed to actively despise and now I'm effectively one of them... that's all sorts of strange

3) Being a clone of a god, it HAD to name itself after a Judeo-Christian demon (of mind control no less... Yes, I used Google to pick out a name)

4) I really have no idea what to do with it. For the time being I have just been characterizing if for fun. I imagine it will eventually become a sneaky boss fight (using NERV against everyone) or an ally of humanity... maybe both... maybe just angelic-escargot... hmm...

*scratches head and continues watching Stargate SG-1 for more inspiration... inspiration that doesn't involve creating wormholes with A.T. Fields*

Yeah, I was thinking about a minor conversation Samuel and Alexander have regarding Rev's sudden appearance at some point.

"Rev, how long have you been here?"

"Oh, he arrived...just as you started talking to Addison.

"What?!"

Or something along those lines.

Well, there's Samuel, a.k.a Castor, a.k.a Alexander's sorta ghost/copy/hallucination of his brother he created through stress and amplified by Unit-31's A.T field. (Haven't revealed that yet) Since at some point we're breaking into Owen's office, you could suddenly arrive and Alastor could take note of Samuel, mistaking him for an angel.

He could say something like, "I sense a brother. How?" or something along those lines with Samuel taking note as well. Plus, since it's pretty obvious we find out about Seele and a few other things about each other, Alastor might want to do something about it and take over Owen's body. Then Alexander may have to fight him, surprised that Dr. Laurence can fight like that at all. And then shit gets real, etc, etc, blah.

Just a suggestion.

Crap, hey everyone. I'd like to offer my sincere apologies for my utter lack of activity the past week; my dorm's internet crashed last Tuesday, and only just got back up late Saturday night. In addition, the past couple of days have been busy as all hell, what with school and work, so I've barely had any time to do anything on here.

Odds are this'll never happen again, but I'm sorry I've been AWOL so long. Hope I didn't annoy anyone too much. As things stand, I should be able to get a catch-up post put up sometime tomorrow.

Again, so, so sorry about this.

It's okay. That's actually part of why I type REALLY long posts at times. Little time, a lot to do, cram, cram, cram.

Oh, and I think Lisa and Viking are about to do the nasty...wait, what?
