I dont buy any game based off of reviews, i rent them first and then i deside if i should buy or not, save a few games like FF13, Mass Effect 2, Persona, and stuff like that.

umm...sort of.

I downloaded Psychonauts based ~mainly~ on his praise; however, the low price was certainly a factor as well.

I was buying used games at game stop one day, when they had the "buy two, get one free" deal. I needed a free game and Sands of Time jumped out at me.

Yahtzee led me to Saint's Row 2. I thank him every day for that.
Same here... I had no interest in it whatsoever and honestly I probably would have just ignored it but it was one of the main reasons I bought the THQ complete pack on Steam. The controls are absolutely awful, but other than that Yahtzee was completely right.

Again, same here. Well, that and everyone else in the world telling me how awesome it was.

No because me and yahztee are complete opposites with our tastes in games. He says DMC4 sucked. I say its a masterpeice. He says he couldnt stand FF13. i yet again think its a masterpeice. He says you can win every battle in SC4 with a throw i laugh and wonder how he can sit there and lie to his fans.

I played all the Silent Hill games because of Yahtzee's references, and I've never looked back.

na. he is caustic. i dont follow most reviewers in general. im not pompus enough to judge other peoples work when i cant do any better. i generally look in to the premise and a small amount of gameplay elements. if it looks good i might buy it. the cheaper it is the more likely i am to get it. for instance gta looked decent but i read it had alot of problems. however, it was 20 bucks so i bought it (doesnt work right btw). on the other end dragon age looked amazing but was expensive, but i still bought that (totally worth it)

you know, i often buy games he shuns cos im so easily impressed (eg. The Force Unleashed); however i was told by a few friends that Fallout 3 was a good investment; Yahtzee's positive review of that kinda sealed it for me. And to this day Fallout 3 remains the most painful game i've ever played; and gives me dirty looks and laughs at me whenever i approach my game collection :(

Hell. No.

If he was an independent reviewer who actually finished the games he reviewed, then that would be a start.

The fact that he's a critic further emphasizes why I don't buy/avoid a game based on Yahtzee because he focuses on what he thinks is bad.

That plus there are so many other things about him that really bug me (His entire Wolfenstein video didn't make me laugh at all, he abuses the shit out of cheap techniques he finds in games and calls the game too easy as a result, he compared Prototype to Infamous, he gave Ashley fins on the side of her head in his RE5 review, the list goes on). He has his own Dethroning Moment of Suck and It Just Bugs me pages on TV Tropes for a reason.

I'm still not sure if he's serious about some of the things he says, or if he is trying to stir up Internet hate (which I wouldn't blame him for, being insulted by somebody who spells like they forgot half of the alphabet is always hilarious).

I firmly believe that anybody else's opinion on any video game should not alter your own opinion on said game until you yourself have at least finished it.

So OP, no. I have never bought or avoided a game based on Yahtzee's videos, and I never will.

I bought saints row 2 because he said it was just about the best game ever and it was basically a big steaming pile of shit. I got bored with repeatedly killing civilians when I was 13 with GTA3 and this is essentially the same thing. I got 1.5 hours in and quit.
You're doing it wrong.

(sorry, I had to)

But seriously, judging a sandbox game based on 90 minutes of interaction is a bit harsh. The game gets ridiculously fun, both main story missions and side missions are equally crazy and entertaining. You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, but you should give it another try sometime if you can.

Then again if you already had a distaste for games like GTA3, maybe it's the genre more than the game itself.

I've never bought a game based on one of his reviews. Wait thats not entirely right I did get Psychonauts off of Steam after seeing the review and numerous other reviews of it when Brutal Legend came out. And No More Heroes, damn! So yes damnit, I guess I did buy games based on his reviews, (but not only his reviews). I have rented through Gamefly some really hated/awful drek games simply to see what all the hate and bile was about. (X-blades I'm looking at you).

Painkiller... kinda. After his review I went and downloaded it... Now I own it since I got it for free off steam when preordering Resurrection. Most the games he reviews I already have, plan on getting, or don't care for.

Nope.

I've been tipped one way or another due to his reviews, such in the case of Fallout 3 and Dragon Age: Origins, both great games, but I've never heard him talk of a game I had no opinion on and no real interest in getting and make me want to get it.

Hell no.
He said a lot of games I loved were total abominations.
He'd have a point sometimes, but I'd often find that it was not such a big deal for me.

I did buy Saints Row 2 and inFamous based on his review. inFamous became my personal game of the year for 2009.

I sort of bought Saints Row 2 based on Yahtzee's review. I was considering buying it anyway, but watching the ZP review kind of tipped the balance.
And regret it I did not!

If I'm thinking about buying a game and there is a ZP review of it, I'll watch it, but that will be after reading a few other less angry reviews first...
