Just wondered how fellow Escapist members felt if they have took a break away from gaming (e.g. for a holiday etc). At the moment I have not played any games for around 4 days and am currently missing them quite a lot which has surprised me in a way as I didn't realise I depended on them so much for entertainment.

Have any of you stopped gaming for any reason? Did you miss it much or did it not bother you that much?

I don't usually take a "break from gaming" I natually just stop playing for a while... I go between playing alot phases and playing little phases, my littlebrother dosn't do that and just sit infront of the screen day in and day out... I don't know how he can get himself to do that...

I take them quite often, but then again between a family, other commitments and work I don't always have much of a choice.

Depends how busy i am. I've only ever consciously taken a break back when i was really into World of Warcraft, but that's all changed.

I have a couple of times, cause I find if I do anything too much I get bored of it and possibly ruin it for myself. Lately I'm not on the whole "Get it on the first day" bandwagon anymore, waiting out certain titles due to time and budget reasons, but RE5 is gonna pull me back in. Damn you Wesker!

Any game that's co-op is what pulls me back in, since you're actually asked to play by friends as opposed to something like Devil May Cry 4, which can by bought and played.... uh.... well pretty much at any time before Devil May Cry 5 comes out.

I quit playing wow after I found out that my wife was having an affair with one of my guild mates! so I promptly kicked her out of the house and got a divorce. there was about 10 days that I did not play any games but then I discovered eve and played it for 3 months. then went back to wow because eve is so terribly boring and your account is worthless for 2 years till you can get anything good! but I cant stand to not play a game of some type for 3-4 days. games are like coffee to me, or crack.

I have yes. Back in 2006 I developed a bad pain in my wrist and I couldn't hold a controller for about two days. Worst two days of my life.

Three days for me. Though I was seperated from consoles, so I guess that's the reason.

Call me full of Schadenfreude, but I laughed hearing that.

I managed 6 months once. What a boring 6 months that was. I sold all my consoles to avoid spending more money on things. That was about 6 year ago now... still spending money on games...

yep, was gonna give up in the line up to my interview at cambridge, managed it for about 3 weeks then had one weekend that would just not end, so I played Dawn of War. But I did cut down on my playing a lot in the 2 weeks before. Anyway, I didn't get in. But that was more to do with slightly lacking mathematical ablity and poor GCSE grades than lack of motivation.

Since New Year's Eve, I've had about 20 of gaming... the rest was spent working on my studies for university, and this will remain so for at least another month.
Honestly guys, games are great, but why would you want to play ALL THE TIME? It'd just get dull to me after three weeks, tops...
