Nier.
Got the game after some mixed reviews, but those on forums I use seem to really enjoy it. And it is really enjoyable.

Also Rise of the Argonauts got slated, but one you get out of the castle and explore the world, it really opens up.

The word everybody is not particularly applicable here, but the massive hatred for MW2 on here has always left me perplexed and shocked.

And, yes, I've played the PC version.

Also, the next gen Double Agent. Haven't experienced a single bug.
I don't think the hatred is set aside for MW2 is because it's particularly bad, more because it wasn't as good[footnote]It has shorter single player, no dedicated servers on PC, smaller multiplayer games (as a result) as well as arguably worse perks/maps than it's predecessor, it just didn't feel as lovingly crafted as any of the earlier call of duty games.[/footnote] as previous games in the series and was met with huge commercial success. I'm confident that if it had received mediocre reviews and was punished by the media for it's shortfallings (rather than being touted as 'teh bestest thing evar!1') it would have a solid fanbase and those that hate it would simply have no interest.
Alright, got quoted like three times, decided I'll respond to the biggest comment.

I would seriously argue that it's not worse than Modern Warfare. Yes, the dedicated servers are a good thing and the MP in the first game was better - but the campaign is probably the biggest evolution I've ever seen.

Yes, the first game's campaign was absolutely great, but it didn't have the absolute mayhem of special effects and set pieces of the second one. If Call Of Duty 4 had a bunch of stand-out moments, Modern Warfare 2 was all one big standout moment.

I also played World At War for that occasion, game that is lauded as good for people who disliked MW2.

I have no idea ho anyone could reach that conclusion with the frankly empty campaign it has.

Also, another reason I found MW2 superior to the previous installments was the amazing, challenging coop mode. I still play Spec Ops.

Spec Ops was so good, because it was not a coop campaign - the action was more condensed, more varied, oh, and you didn't have to watch the same cutscenes 50 fucking times (Reach, World At War).
As I said, were it not for it's unimaginable popularity it would not be hated anywhere near as much (I like to call it 'halo syndrome'). The campaign was short, I'm not sure about better, but it's obviously subjective and I see little reason to argue over personal taste. At any rate it's certainly not unreasonable for a great many people to have enjoyed it more, but the fact remains that it's fashionable to ***** about how short current gen games are, and the steep reduction in single player game time (regardless of other multiplayer aspects that have been added in and extend the life of the game) is enough of an excuse for people to hate it, especially people who haven't played or properly experienced the new gametypes.

I suppose, too, that independant of hardcore fans of the series hating the way it's changed the call of duty franchise, a lot of the haters are probably bitter about the change it represents in gaming culture. It has everything that the 'elite' love to hate in that it's easy to pick up (and has the frat and xbox live image attached to it), it's got koticks face all over it, the hosting system screams potential for subscription fees, the perk and weapon unlock system looks like it could be easy altered to incorporate micro transactions...There are probably a lot of people who hate what they perceive it represents for them and their beloved hobby, and that feel threatened by it. This, of course, has nothing to do with the actual game itself on any level.

I am not exactly bitter of the fact Modern Warfare 2 is not popular amongst everyone - I have problems with it being called the worst game ever, but it's definitely not everyone.

What I have a problem with is when people insinuate that if my favorite game is Modern Warfare 2, I am most definitely a frat boy and my brain simply reacts to the loud sensory output the game produces.

"Modern Warfare 2 sucks because the community sucks" is a pretty weird statement. Sure, the removal of the dedicated servers does contribute to you having to communicate with people you don't want to communicate with. But I often feel that allowing dedicated servers would legitimize boosting in a game all about ranks and unlockables.

Modern Warfare 2 has always had private games. Sure, they are not a proper substitute, but if you want to play with friends, they get the job done.

Let me know what is your favorite "Ugly Duckling"?
recently i would say alpha protocol. as you said about bionic commando, yeah it wasn't perfect and it had its flaws (some of which are inexplicable in today's gaming market), but none of the flaws were game breaking in my opinion.

in fact, i really enjoyed alpha protocol and would recommend it to anyone provided they knew ahead of time that it does have a few rough edges.

edit (added): and it had "boss fights" which seemed totally out of place for a game of this type.
Same here. While the game defintely has some less than polished elements, the concept is pretty amazing. Haven't felt similar for a game since I played Deus Ex.

But yeah, the bosses felt very strange to fight.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Can't really say anything different from the above: understood the flaws, still liked the game. I liked the combat and loved some of the setpeices (like when you first go the city of Stonehelm. I found that part really atmospheric).
And don't forget the combat! It was amazing. Now if only Oblivion had combat like that..

Minesweeper. I play about 1000 games on expert per month. Don't know about anyone who likes it as much as I do : P

Fastest time on expert: 53 seconds (though that was a lucky one, I was just clicking away while I watched the bronze finals in the world championship in South Africa, then BAM new best time : ), second best is 83 seconds), win percentage on expert: 28-29. Any better? : P

Dark Messiah was a great game! Combat had such weight, the magic was nifty and creative, stealth was tolerable and the environmental traps were a lot of fun.

My favourite thing to do in that game was be a stealther, but use swords instead of daggers. So, when I crept forth to deliver the killing blow, instead of getting the boring dagger animation, I'd slice off heads.

Great game.

Yeah, I enjoyed this game way more then people complained about it. I loved the ending.
See also: MW2. So much hate for that game, but I really enjoyed it. Great game to go online and play with your friends.
I agree with Tea, MW2 is great with friends, especially the Spec Ops. It's fun when I can use cover terms like "Watch my six" or "TANGO SUCKA" without any bullshiting and weird looks from my parents.

Far Cry 2 ~ One of my most favorite games.

The amount of attention-seeking fuckers with 'FML' comments is bloody beyond me. C'mon people let's get a bit optimistic here.
How right you are. Life is good if you want it to be:)

OT: I'd have to say Mirror's Edge. I know many people on this site love it but there are a lot of my frieds at home who shun me for even owning that game.

Hellgate: London

Not everyone hated it, but enough tossed it aside because of the bug nest it was at launch which inevitably caused it's demise. I, on the other hand thought it was the best game of it's kind and still play single player from time to time. That being said, I probably won't be getting the re-release because of how badly that japanese company screwed it up

It's not a whole game, but Half-Life 2's vehicle sections. I got the game yesterday, and loved the boat! I'm on the car bit now, and that's awesome too.
The hovercraft level is HL2 is by far my favorite. When the helicopter starts chasing you, it feels straight out of a hollywood movie. Some think it was too long; I kept hoping other levels would be the same length.

As already pointed out, the massive hatred against MW2 leaves me somewhat confused. It was a good game so i don't really get the hate. And yes, i too played the PC version. :X

InFamous is my number 1 choice
Had an awful lot of people saying "get Prototype instead", so I did...Prototype was pure shite. Not the shite with little nuts of fun and sweetcorns of greatness...Just shite through and through

InFamous is better all around. Gameplay is better, side missions have a point, visuals are better, isnt as emo as Prototype and is just generally great

Cant wait till number 2
Coles powers are my most wanted super-powers :)

I'd have to say [PROTOTYPE]. It's a damn good game, but it gets flak because the developers cared about their game enough to delay it. Sadly they delayed to around the same time that inFamous was coming out, which in itself shouldn't have hurt anything because inFamous is pure shit without even a single kernel of corn to salvage from it.

However, I've underestimated how much people love shooters, no matter how bad (and inFamous is a REALLY BAD shooter), in favor of a game with even the slightest glimmer of originality in it. You would think with great third person shooter titles like Uncharted and Gears of War out there on the market, crap like inFamous would still get called out for being crap, but nope. All shooters get a pass these days, no matter how awful.

So, yeah. [PROTOTYPE] got the shit end of that stick somehow, but fuck the critics. [PROTOTYPE] is an awesome game and if you would rather play another fucking shooter instead, have fun with the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops. Hey, at least it'll be better than inFamous, not that you'd notice the difference as long as you get to shoot stuff.
I found this little funny considering these are only 6 posts apart.

And clearly InFamous is better game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/6228-Yahtzees-Prototype-vs-InFamous-Challenge] :p

OT: I remember playing "Shadow the Hedgehog" and everyone absolutely hated it, but for some reason I really liked it. Though towards the end of it I got stuck because I couldn't find a single robot that I had to smash, so then I hated it.

Deus Ex: Invisible War - I could go on for ages about this game but in a nutshell I just got loads of enjoyment out of it whilst everyone else berated it for not being like the first
Took the words right out of my mouth, its definitely a "B" to Deus Ex's "A" but I still enjoyed playing it and I completed it which is more than can be said for many games I've played.
