Eyes open underwater

I can handle it if it's a saline chlorination, not a "chemical" pool. Salinated water feels like contact lens solution on the eyes.

I just kind of deal with it, after a while my eyes burn a little and for the rest of the day my eyes are blurry/stinging but it's just an inconvience, i guess i don't react all that much to clorine

I really don't like wearing goggles and I like to open my eyes in water. So, my eyes are fine with it, but I prefer not to in the sea.

Hate it, unfortunately it's a requirement to pass the PADI open water diving course. And it was not nice water, it was a freezing cold, disused ,flooded quary in leicester and it's exactly as fun as it sounds.

I only ever use goggles in the ocean. Stuff burns.

Generally, if you're in a pool and your eyes burn, then the chlorine level is really high. Which means the pool itself is filthy.

By the time I realise this, I normally go "Gnyaarg!" and get the hell out.

When i went down to Haiti (it was a on a cruise about a month after the earthquake hit.) i couldn't take the amount of salt in that water. I swear if i opened my mouth it felt like i had just licked a brick of the stuff. But in a normal pool i can open my eyes without a problem.

I haven?t done it in a while but I don?t remember it being too troublesome. In the water it didn?t take too long to get used to it and out of water my vision stayed blurry for a little while and maybe it stung a bit. I don?t remember anything particularly painful.
It probably just doesn?t agitate my eyes as much as some people. I?m talking about pools hear, I don?t like putting my head in the sea anyway. Don?t like getting salt water on my lips, tastes to awful.

It really depends, at the community pool near my old house, the chlorine was so bad, that if I didn't wear goggles I would literally have to sit with my eyes closed for 20 minutes it hurt so bad. But some pools, and nearly every lake or beach, I'm just fine swimming in without goggles.

I open them in pools, but never in a lake or stuff like that. It never stings, but lakes have stuff like bacteria in them. Also, I don't open them in salt water, mostly because I'm really scared that the salt will sting.

Yup not a problem for me. I prefer sea-water to pool-water though, the chlorine clouds my vision at the end of the day/swimming. Aside from that no problem. The only occasions when I use googles are when deep diving t see, fish, corals etc.

Yes. I'm an excellent diver and distance swimmer. It wouldn't be half as fun if I couldn't see stuff.

T find goggles uncomfortable so ive never worn any my eyes still burn but im pretty much used to it.

It takes a lot to get me in water regardless, take away my vision and it's an absolute no-deal.

Plus pool water w/o goggles stings like f**k, ironic really, as I've dealt with both chlorine and ammonia leaks in the lab with seemingly less effect.

I wear contacts, so it's a bad idea for me to swim with my eyes open underwater.

I used to need goggles, then one day I just... stopped. Can't explain it.

A mate of mine went on a Life-guarding course at a pool. FUN FACT: That stinging? It's caused more by piss than it is by the chlorine.

I heard that after an hour in a pool you will have ingested about half a litre of urine. Yum.

Edit: I have no idea how I can still go swimming after knowing that.

I visit the beach on a regular basis because i live in an island, i am used to water and i can open my eyes underwater, question is, who can't?

I've never really tried, but then again, don't want to. Goggles seem okay to me.
