Facebook annoyence

Setting up a Facebook account takes all of about five minutes. When someone sends out an event invite to members of their friends list, those friends receive an email. I've just quoted you in saying that you asked your friend to send you an email. So since you have time to check email, take five minutes out of your life to set up an account and whenever someone sends you an event invite you will receive an email.

Claiming not to have time for Facebook while in the same breath claiming to have time for a D&D party makes not one ounce of sense. You seem to be complaining just for the sake of complaining.

I got my facebook page 3 days ago.
Well a few month ago most people i cared about were on myspace so its not that i am just a cool guy swimming against the stream .
And yes there were back then a few events that have been only announced over myspace. nothing huge, but stuff like "hey i am bored, my roomates out, whoever wanna come come join me. and bring booze". Well so no real big parties but nice fun sit ins at friends places.
If you are inviting to a real party you are doing it at least in a way you know everyone gets it. (if it has to be online that would be ICQ, or posts on the personal profiles or whatever.)

I've got one but I hardly ever use it. I had my birthday recently and decided to check my facebook to see if anyone wished me well. Everyone had commented twice, but the comments they left were for last year's birthday.

but all that time I'm NOT on vacation facebook would cause many problems and hastles (mainly people bugging me to go online more often because they don't understand the concept of the word "WORK")

No, it's okay I understand, it's a good question, I was just getting tired of answering the same one multiple times so I added that comment to the original post.

I have facebook for family more than anything else. I have family and friends who live overseas so I like to put up pics of my daughters.
But a similar thing has happened to my brother. Our group of friends are ALL on facebook and send out invites and they all forget to text him so I have to let him know, then he feels fucking depressed that no one bothered in the first place and doesn't wanna go anyway.

I understand how you feel coz of it, I never get to go to these things anyway as I'm the only one with kids.

It's free, its easy, and no-one is making you spend time on it other than to quickly check up on messages / invites etc.

I got one for this reason precisely, so I could stay in contact with people and not get left out such as you have been. It's a no-brainer really, unless you're so stubborn that you refuse to get Facebook for some stupid reason.

Yep, I agree. I don't use it all that much, but I have friends that do, so I have a page. It impacts my day exactly as much as I let it, which is to say not much at all. I really wonder about people who say it's a massive timesink, etc. - you don't have to do anything with it. How is it a timesink?

I don't know either but just to guess, they find the apps and lose track of time despite the fact that they're not having fun they're just being obsessive...

It's a casual forum, nothing more; that's why millions of people use its oversimplified features and horrible interface. I just don't find it interesting enough to want to check it often.

Oh, and it's 'do you have a Facebook account?', not 'do you have Facebook?'. That really, really irritates me.

Concur. It's not like you'd complain about people expecting you to have a mobile phone these days, is it?

Yes actually I would, being that I can't afford one and my home-phone is dirt cheap.
they can't be bothered to call, instead they pull the "well I wasn't able to text you"

like the suddenly wanted to throw away money (texting cost more then talking here- last I checked) and lost their ability to talk.

EDIT: also my NOT having a cell phone caused me to fail geo science 2 years ago (long story... I'll PM you if you're interested)

They're maybe on contract, so cost per text isn't a concern? Do you not have internet either? I mean, there's saving money (heaven I know I did at school - I resisted getting a mobile for years) then there's just being plain obstinate. All these sort of things are social tools, becoming a basic accepted part of certain circles of social life. You can't really complain, tbh, if you're the only person in your group of friends without these and so start to miss out on things.

Like I said, I didn't get a mobile until 6th form - there wasn't any point, I talked to my mates all day n organised everything face-to-face, but not everyone works like that, and you can't expect them to bend over to acquiesce to your resistance.

If you're going to avoid the communication channels used by your friends, you're just going to be a bit more proactive about finding out what's going on.

I am on vacation this week
all that time I'm not on vacation I won't have time for either

and facebook isn't exactly the type of thing you look at 2-3 times a year
and the spam and flooding of my inbox would become a problem
(plus people would actually call me- to tell me "get on facebook more often!")

Yeah, I have a Facebook. The only thing that really bugs me is when people post stuff with horrible writing/spelling/grammar skills.

I only got FaceBook in my last year of high school mostly so that I could keep up with friends who were leaving and scattering all over the country to go to university ? and to get a few of them off of my back because they were bugging me about it. I know that several of my friends never got FaceBook until after they graduated and this happened because they didn't see the point.

And I still don't use it as much as a lot of my friends do; I'll go on maybe once or twice a month and update a few things. I don't like the spam mail it sends me but it's easy enough to deal with since I can figure out what I want to read and what I don't. What really pisses me off is when I get spammed with game invitations and the like when I don't play them and find them to be a waste of time. If I want to play something weird and fun then I'll go play Tetris.

Yeah, I don't like FaceBook games. >.<
