I am mildly concerned about the fed raising the interest rates right now. The timing couldn't be worse. As to the states falling in 2010, I think that's a bit extreme. I can't see all society collapsing in a few months. (*snicker* why not make it 2012 :p)

Texas is the only state with the power to secede and whenever the Governor isn't a part of the dominating political party. He makes a big deal about the power of secession as weak ass threat but it is all just bluffing because the entire state would throw into the Gulf of Mexico if he was serious.

Texas is actually a very nice place as long as you don't remind them it isn't 1850 anymore.
Yes, a leader and pioneer in modern agriculture, alternative energy, advanced water treatment techniques, and industry... and we are stuck in the past.

I sit here, contemplating the ignorance of statements such as yours, when suddenly the thought dawns on me that you sit around and think of negative things to say of other states, while they, on the other hand, don't even know you exist.

Just for kicks and giggles, if this were to happen, I highly doubt that florida will be in that mix of the south. We got our rednecks but no where like it is in other southern states

My thoughts: You wish!

Yeah, maybe I'm an ignorant Oregonian, but it doesn't seem like we're all that close to civil war right now. I mean, does this man live in the U.S.? No. We've proven ourselves pretty stable, I think. Although, I don't think it's completely impossible. Just very, very improbable.

And, to be honest, when I saw the map, all I thought was: "The hell? You think I'm Chinese, Mister? Well, sorry, but if all this shit happened, I would move to the Central North-American Republic in a heartbeat.

So while browsing another forum, I came across this [http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123051100709638419.html] basically predicts the United States would break apart by the end of 2010.

Personally, I do not believe this for two reasons:

Less serious 1: We're too lazy to break apart. Would be too much effort for us.

More serious 2: Yes, we have internal problems, but not enough to "break apart".

It should also be noted this was predicted by a Russian. So yah. Take it as you will.
3: we got nukes *****. and we are stubborn. if we go down we are definitely taking the rest of the world down with us.

The only way the US could fall is if it lost some sort of huge war in a huge way and its territory was conquered/balkanized. Can't see that happening in the foreseeable future.

The parts of the US that are the angriest about such things are the same ones who consider themselves to be the core part of the country. Seceding would not help them prove any point.

Although if there was any chance of the US falling, say hello to the republics of Texas and California. (Pretty sure the US Constitution still allows a state to secede at any time. Come to think of it, if the US was balkanized by an outside force all of the states could secede to reorganize themselves in a way that hurt them less - keeping the farm belt together, etc.)
The articles of confederation(what govern our country for the first 10 years or so and floped honorably) did let states to succeed the Constitution dose not hence our civil war and Whiskey Rebellion

when i looked at the map all i saw was this

Those on the east coast fought two (2) wars to get away from Europe too, remember.

That's why the President was invented. Yeah, yeah, there's the separation of powers bit, but there's a lot of, "because people need a face to blame the faults of the government on."
Yeah (s)he's basically just a whipping boy for public opinion. When people start to get pissed at government, just give it a new "leader" face. But the people who actually do the day-to-day running and influencing of government stay the same. I can't see anyone else in Obama's position doing anything substantially different.

I lived in San Antonio for a year, and I loved it. The people were some of the nicest I've ever met. They also didn't believe in evolution, were completely ignorant of the world outside the south, and kept trying to save my Jewish ass. And they've elected some terrible governors. I'm not saying my personal experience is indicative of the entire Texan population, but I'm not just speaking from ignorance here.

If you must know, Ohio is my least favorite state because my first day there I was side-swiped by a pickup truck, and the Panera had terrible Wi-Fi.

I call bullshit. Northern Florida is the redneck epicenter of the universe.

Doubtful. Though it seems politicians are trying to seed suspicion and unease among us, I find it hard for the country to actually fall apart.

So you are being willfully ignorant? Don't get me wrong, I am not a super patriot ready to stomp on every negative comment about the US or Texas, but I also do not enjoy reading malicious blanket statements about the place I call home.

Also, it sounds like you would probably get along just fine in Austin. Its pretty liberal, while still maintaining an air of Texas conservatism, and there are some pretty amazing Mexican restaurants here to boot.

Never take Texas and our seceding shit seriously.

EDIT: Wow, there are some huge ignorant assholes in this thread.
How did this turn into a Texas bashing thread? Goddammit, this ALWAYS happens on the Escapist.
