Just for kicks and giggles, if this were to happen, I highly doubt that florida will be in that mix of the south. We got our rednecks but no where like it is in other southern states
I call bullshit. Northern Florida is the redneck epicenter of the universe.
Well said sir. I second your bullshit.

Also, I can forgive Rick Perry for threatening to succede on account of he's crazy enough to carry around a luger when he walks his daughter's dog and SHOOTS COYOTES UNPROVOKED.

I never thought of it like that but yes, that is very true, I also think of it (why the president was invented) as a person we could drop all our problems onto and wipe our asses for us kind of thing
Now you know why the approval rating is always low. When I talk to people who dislike Obama on any level, I ask them what he can do as an individual. I get silence from the ignorant masses. From the informed opposition (Republicans who know what they're doing), I get the correct responses (sign bills, tells troops what to do, etc.).

So remember, kids. The President of the U.S. is no dictator, he's someone you can blame for Congress' or your own shortcomings.
Wow, your comment just jumped out at me slapped me in the face and said this guy knows what he's talking about, we can't blame the Pres for everything, there are areas he may be failing in but he himself really can't be held responsible for all of this (you have no idea how hard it was for me to type that, I fall in the "not a fan of Obama" category) The citizen of the US of A need to change Congress first (you mentioned approval rating at an all time low, now we just got to get them out)

I suspect you and I will have different outlooks on this but I think its pretty cool that you kinda see things the same way I do

I sincerely doubt the United States would break up. You'd be pretty hard-pressed to not say we're extremely polarized; with one half(a guess, different news outlets report different opinions on varying issues, obviously) supporting/tolerant of the president and his plans, if not promising immediate effect or incredibly slow-acting, and the other half disapproving/considering him the demonic spawn of Hitler+Joker+Satan+Marx, ready to create death councils, outlaw religion and dissenting opinion and victimize those poor CEOs, only being thwarted by a few stalwart patriots.

But we've been extremely polarized in the past, even to the point people thought the Union might fall apart(with precedent, mind you), the '60s are still fairly recent memory, only reason it's more noticeable now is due to ease of communication and mobilization.

I doubt, even with our debts to foreign nations, that we'd be overthrown by a foreign power within the next half century. The EU(not an enemy, but cohesively it's a power to rival the US in due time) seems to have some issues of their own and it's not like there's any immediate hostility, China's dependent on America for a great deal of its wealth(Americans dislike China but love inexpensive products) but they've got a lot of their own issues to deal with that'll only get worst in coming decades.

It's inevitable whenever the name is invoked. It comes from a lack of practical knowledge of the state which is substituted for cartoon logic that everyone here acts like the characters from Dallas.

That's Texas... Who cares?
You are both not looking at the big picture. I am assuming you do not like Texas because of your political leanings, and that is fine, as long as you accept a few facts about the wonderful state of Texas.

Second biggest largest economy, second highest gross state product, 15th largest economy in the world, home to six of the top 50 Fortune 500 companies, high education, good home market, a lot of jobs, and certainly one of the biggest stockpiles of guns in the country.

I'm pretty sure we'd have a pretty big price to pay if Texas left us.

I know. I don't understand why some people here keep bashing Texas. I'm from Texas, Houston to be exact, and it irks me seeing people bash it just because it's not up to their standards. Almost like their state is so much better. I know every state in the country has it's fair share of flaws. Seriously...

*Applause* As a fellow Houstonian, I have to congratulate your effort in pointing out the silliness on this forum.

No one will threaten the status quo, even if they do, it will only be a small minority. Hardly enough to start a revolution so massive that the country will split.

So while browsing another forum, I came across this [http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123051100709638419.html] basically predicts the United States would break apart by the end of 2010.

Personally, I do not believe this for two reasons:

Less serious 1: We're too lazy to break apart. Would be too much effort for us.

More serious 2: Yes, we have internal problems, but not enough to "break apart".

It should also be noted this was predicted by a Russian. So yah. Take it as you will.
unfortunately the fact hes a russian will make most western residents not take him seriously.
he may have valid points to make, but the first thought would be russian==soviet - ignore
although im british not american, so maybe fair reasoning shouldnt have a part here ;)

I've seen the same prediction come and past before in my rather short life. I'm not too worried about this either, he'll be the fool soon enough.

How could that possible "Atlantic America" join into EU? I'd say that Turkey is closer to membership than it is. Besides it isn't certain that EU will be going on with flying colors within few years.
