Well the governor of Texas did threaten to secede. So there's that.
There has been a big moment in Hawaii to do this for a long time, and whats up with all the hate for Texas?
It's inevitable whenever the name is invoked. It comes from a lack of practical knowledge of the state which is substituted for cartoon logic that everyone here acts like the characters from Dallas.
oh well that sucks, I really liked the state when I was there, the people were a hell of a lot nicer then in cali.
I get that quite a bit. What's up with the stereotypes of snooty Californians?
Oh I probably said that wrong, it's only really in some areas, the area around were my uncle lives is very nice and most the people are wonderful. But then if you go to were my grandma is the people really don't want to much to do with other people, after living there half my life though I have noticed that most the areas in southern cali are like my grandmas place and not my uncles, so it probably has something to do with general distrust of a majority of the populace.

We're off schedule!

Quick, Americans, get more angry!

Uhh, Obama is an islamic fundamentalist communist!

The Conservatives are stupid!

Quick people! We only have a couple more weeks till Civil war!
But Peace Walker is coming out in June and Halo: Reach is coming out in September. Not to mention my college courses and such. Can't we put it off till next year?

Regardless of how many internetal strifes the U.S. may have, there's no way in hell they're going to break up, particularly within the span of 7 months. It's a funny thing with Americans - democrats and republicans seem to hate each other with such a fierce passion, and yet, they all want the same thing; what's best for the United States. Patriotism is the commonality that unites all these people - if only they could just realise that.

Nice to know that the Russians are still batshit insane.
I can't be the only one to find this comment incredibly offensive. Reported.
Silly. Everyone knows that in the East, everyone in the West is an acceptable target and in the West, everyone in the East is also an acceptable target. It's been that way since the Cold War.

Also, remember that storyline from MW2? 90% more likely to happen than this IMO.

Where did you get that picture? I find it incredibly funny.

The United States will not fall. Many Americans remember we only have 2 years left with a awful leader. Once we reelect a ACTUAL leader we should do fine.
They all suck.
I feel like its in the job description. Until America votes in the Centrist party, we're not really going to do much different than the tool barn in power now and the idiot that just left.
It's a pretty crappy situation. If I remember correctly isn't the Right basicly just going to filibuster anything Obama tries to do, and when the other side is in power the left does the same thing? (It was a Time article, not sure which issue.) No real progress is ever going to be made because both sides are worried about making the other look bad.

It seems more likely to me that IF the USA were to collapse each region would form its own government. If other countries stepped in to reestablish order, it would be an insanely large expenditure both in terms of money and labor, neither of which would be popular. To take the USSR as an example, you didn't wind up with foreign nations taking responsibility for the Balkans. Those countries, with a few exceptions, are still around. And the ones that aren't had unresolved issues from before the USSR was formed.

The USA still has at least ~25 years of remaining as the world's only true superpower in my opinion. After that it will probably be a toss-up. All the "America is screwed" talk that i've been hearing lately seems like a mix between pessimism and secretive wishful thinking people have and will continue to have until they see what a post-US superpower world will actually look like. The USA's debt problem isnt as bad as people think it is (it's still bad), the rising powers in China and other developing nations are not doing as well as people think they are, and it will probably take even longer than 25 years before a rival power (China, India, etc) is able to come close to the quality and power of the US military. This is just my humble opinion though as someone who has dug into this subject alot lately.

A less respectful response would be that the person who made that prediction is a tosser. :p
It may be an opinion, but I agree with it. It'll be surprising who takes America's spot after that, however.

More serious 2: Yes, we have internal problems, but not enough to "break apart".

That's just crazy, everyone knows the U.S. isn't going to fall apart by 2010. We all know it's going to be destroyed with the rest of the world during the cataclysm of 2012!

Well, Russia has a contingency plan to brake up my country and spread it evenly among our neighbors. So as long as the US isn't next to Russia, you'll probably be safe.
But if Mexicans and Canadians start drinking vodka, or their prime ministers take up judo and start going head to head with wild tigers, HEAD FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND HIDE!

It sounds like the concept for fallout 4, but without the nukes.
Since we are almost halfway though 2010 already I suggest you get a move on America, you dont want to disapoint the Russians now do you?

Well if you actually read the article, and are a U.S. citizen, (which I am.) it's pretty hilarious.

"California will form the nucleus of what he calls "The Californian Republic," and will be part of China or under Chinese influence."

California is broke and can't afford to form it's own Republic.

"Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar"

Well we've been morally degraded worse before in the 60's and we didn't fall apart then. The U.S. dollar won't collapse because China owns too many of them and we are China's biggest customer. The economy has been improving since last fall. And mass immigration? Umm since the recession immigration, illegal or not to the U.S. has dropped. This guy is a flavor of the month in Russia. A demagouge, not an academic. Doesn't matter if our country fails this year or not, (I say absolutely not.) he'll profit, and has profited by his empty predictions.

Having shared my not so humble opinion. I wish great success and peace to Russia. Finally I love my country, and Americans may get into political disagreements, but we are damn proud of our country, I can't see such patriotism suddenly turning to self destruction. (I love Russian people too. I knew plenty of them in Seattle. Also Fedor Emelianenko is a prince. Or the last emperor rather. ;)

Fan-bloody-tastic, another Nostradamus.

*Reading on* Yeah sure, Russia's totally back on the world stage when compared to the cultural, economic and journalistic contributions of world powers like America, the united kingdom and Japan, you keep telling yourself that Kremlin.

OT: The US break apart by the end of 2010? I doubt that.

Our Rome will have its day, but that's too early.

EMPs are the constant, overhanging threat of US destruction in my opinion. More than nukes, it's EMPs that can crush our society. I mean, fire off a nuke and every survivor on the planet nukes your country to crap. But fire off an EMP and blast an empire nobody likes back into the 18th century, and are the remaining countries really going to come down that hard on you?

Especially if it were somebody powerful like China. And I'm not saying this is definitely going to happen, but all empires do end at some point. Usually in a spectacular fashion involving fires.
