i second this, far as main bad guys good anyway
normal badguys, Devil May Cry's Frosts come to mind, for looking bad ass and still being able to take some one apart if you screw off, the Blades as well

actual bosses? i'm giving the nod to Shadow of the Colossus, for having boss fights that pretty much start good, and move quickly to epic

Chimera from Resistance. So many variants...and they just look badarse.

This, except the Boilers in Retribution. I hated them with a passion.

The Heartless from Kingdom Hearts always stood out as well-designed enemies. Challenging to fight (some of them, anyway) and each of them had a very distinctive visual style.

Andrew Ryan from Bioshock. He was a smart and tough opponent (at least, when you're not next to him with a golf club)

The splicers. Yeah there's the big daddies and andrew ryan, but the splicers seemed to personofy what had happened to rapture. once sofisticated artists, tennis players, etc. they're now reduced to hunting around rapture trying to find what little adam they can to saciete their necessity for the stuff. their psychotic blathering would always send shivers down my spine, and gave them personality as opposed to most enemies who just scream threats at you and then die. what would bioshock be without the lot of them to add to the disturbing atmosphere?

OT:Well it's a close competition between the Helghast,Splicers,Big Daddy's and killer car's from Rouge Trip:Vacation 2012.

grunts from the halo series, but not just the normal grunts the ones when you have the birthday surprise skull! nothing like scoring a headshot on a grunt only to hear a pop and children cheering "YAAAAAAAYYY!!" while it rains confetti.

Theseus, Perseus, and Hercules from the God of War series and the Chimera from the Resistance series. They are all challenging and quite smart (especially the Chimera). Can't wait to see how tough the Chimera are in Resistance 3.
