10, I love just about everything about it.

The only things I don't like are the two things you have to do to get the ultimate weapons, beating 0:00:00 in a chocobo race ... with atrocious controls, the other is dodging 200 lightening strikes.

Final Fantasy IX.

Green forests! Ancient castles! Cute moogles instead of garish save crystals and a hero who isn't a moody, pessimistic asshole! AND all the usual trimmings: Chocobos, airships and someone named Cid!

What's not to like?

Copy pasted from an older post to save time. (haven't played 12 or 13 yet, so my judgment for them is reserved)

-FF6 is a prime example of what every Final Fantasy should strive to be. It was a brilliant, timeless, and well put together game with some of the best characters and one of the best stories ever. Kefka was the first video game villain to truly spark emotions of fear, and legitimate hate, you wanted to kill that fucker after the some of the shit he pulled. Terra is also one of my all time favorite female characters and the relationship between Locke and Celes is one of the few game romances that wasn't ham fisted or just plain stupid. Everything about this game is amazing and it's a true example of Final Fantasy at it's best.

-FF Tactics (original) was another brilliant game with a very down to earth feel to it with what are seemingly the most normal characters in any FF game I've played. It's major departure from the standard FF gameplay turned out to be great and i love strategy games, and this one had shit tons of depth. A well told story with good characters and I loved the first 2 chapters and their analysis of classist society, government, and just the whole politics of it all.

-FF7 is the last of the top 3 FF games that I love. 7 had a great story, and the main hero and antagonist where some of the deepest and interesting characters in the series....it's a shame they have been so misconstrued over the years to terrible and petty generalizations and what not. Sephiroth and Cloud where very interesting characters when you actually delve into their psyche and examine their character for more than just face value.

-Speaking of FF7, Crisis Core was something GOOD that came of that compilation..and boy is it a heavy hitter. It's by far the most personal final fantasy I have ever played, seeing as you played as only Zack it made you form an even deeper connection to the character than any other FF. Zack was and will always be one of the most likable and realistic FF characters to me. He had real feelings and acted accordingly to most situations, although sometimes masking his true emotions behind his up beat attitude. The connection you form with him over the game, and seeing this true enigmatic hero of FF7 be given a fleshed out personality was an amazing emotional adventure. The ending is just plain heart-wrenching and brilliant, and it's definitely one of the most powerful and emotional deaths of any FF game.

-FF4 was another game with a great cast and one of my favorite villains as well. It was the first true epic FF in my eyes and also the definition of a classic FF. It was like an old childhood fairy tale that will live on in my memories forever and was an enjoyable ride.

-And then there is Dissidia, completely different type of game but still awesome. I could write a whole review on why this game is awesome (I would have if it weren't for low motivation, addiction to the game, and school). Just play it, that's all that needs to be said unless you require furthur justification from me, be off of work soon too.

EDIT: I have enjoyed pretty much every FF game I have ever played except with the notable exception of 8, Tactics advance series, and mystic quest. The other games are great, but do not rank as highly as these listed.

Played 8, 10, and 12. 10 may be my favorite because it has Auron and Rikku. It's also the only one I finished (stuck on 8 and my 360 took my attention away from 12)

In order:
IV
VII
XIII
VIII
XII
I

Those are the only ones that I've played, and I've only beaten IV, VII, and XIII. Those are also my top 3 though...

#12 tops my FF list. The Gambit system was clever. It was a nice touch to set up your party to walk through an area and automatically kill any bad guys that got a bit too close to you. Plus, what other FF lets you swap in your other characters after your active party gets killed off?

I also preferred #9 and the DS version of #4.

IV, IX and X. IV is my first and still my favorite. I really love the plot and characters of this one. I had such a blast with IX and X. And X has my favorite battle system. Would have more to say about IX but I never finished it (the game and Playstation weren't mine). I do love the music from these games (I have two songs from X, one from IX, and the whole album from IV). Haven't played XIII yet.
