I think Prey had one of the best intros. What could be more epic than being abducted by aliens while "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult is blasting on the roadhouse jukebox.
I haven't played it, but I believe that due to that song alone, it may be necessary to find an XBox 360 version.

One of the best intros I believe was the original Sims one, no expansions. The house, goddammit, THE HOUSE! I WANTED IT!!!
BioShock was absolutely terrific, still yet to play 2.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - seriously, how has nobody said that yet. That intro was freaking awesome!

I liked the Half-Life/2 intros quite a bit. Maybe the first better than the second, because it was less "sit back and watch" and more "hey, look around".

Bioshock has already been mentioned about 20 times, so I'll pick Prototype. The completely awesome CGI opening cinematic followed by about 5 minutes of time to play with the best powers in the game before the plot and actual upgrade system kick in. For all it's flaws, that game had a BA opening.

Also the first mission of Half-Life 2 should be remembered for it's sheer awesomeness.

Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit for the Euros)
FTW, i'm in love with that game.

mine would have to be Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, because Raziel looked badass as a full fledged vampire, pretty much any MGS game, or Indigo Prophecy. oh yeah, Mass Effect 2's was epic as well.

Not sure if it counts as an intro but Morrowind.
After picking a race, class and such, it shows you a huge, wide open world with very little instructions and pretty much says GO!!!

Love it for not telling you shit.

Don't know about you guys, but the Modern Warfare 2 intro was really good, atmospheric and made me want to play so much.
Oh, and of course Jak II. That was classic.

Oh, that would be Fahrenheit, Prototype and Left 4 Dead 2.
The first one has quite a monologue which I think is the best in the history of gaming (much better than MGS4), Prototype (just loads of kickass), Left 4 Dead 2 (great music and the awesome movie vibe).

Dawn of war always gets me with its intro. I still question how that one space marine made squad sergeant or captain or whatever though. I mean really charging UP a hill with heavy weapons?!? Dark crusade was also pretty good.

The cinematography, the sheer panic when you walk through the collapsing ship, the sudden silence and peace when you enter the command deck, Shepard falling out of the ship, normal breathing, faster breathing, frantic breating, no breathing, Shepard's lifeless body, logo fade in...

When I watched it the first time, I was unable to move. It always gives me shivers, even if it's the 20th time I watch it. Nothing will ever come close.

MGS2 for the music, and one of my all time favourites was Half life, it was the first time id ever seen an intro secuence that let you control Gordon throughout waling around the facility and basicly doing his job, it set the game up perfectly and was like nothing id played before.
