Gotta go with Forge because apart from being a badass, he doesn't use his ridiculous... whatever to win, he has to use trickery. Also, he gives me grizzlies.
I agree, Sgt. Forge was a great character and he kicked the previous Arbiter's ass one on one. But in my opinion most of Bungie's character's weren't developed very well. Thank God I read the Halo books.

Holy thread necro, batman!

Anyway, when I think of what I enjoy about Halo, deep characters isn't exactly what comes to mind (especially in 2 and 3), but I'll pick for Johnson for being a source of awesome one-liners, and Cortana for her snarkiness.

Also, I just realized that since Halo Reach is a prequel to Halo 1, Foehammer will still be alive. She was another good character, I hope she makes an appearance.

Sgt. Johnson, Token Black Guy.

The Arbiter was my least favorite. He ruined the second game with that religious backstory crap. I want to play as the Chief, not side with the friggen Elites.
Yeah, cause how dare a video game actually have a PLOT, right? That'd mean you'd actually be THINKING about things, and who wants to do that?

OT: Rtas 'Vadumee, the Sangheili Commander that the Arbiter hung out with. He was the one who boarded the Infinite Succor. (That was a badass comic.)
The Arbiter's pretty cool too, but you kind of HAVE to like main characters. (Though Master Chief is a little too much of a generic action hero at times.)

I like Master Chief when he's snarky - for example, when cortana asks "so how do you plan to get out of here?" and he says "thought I'd try shooting my way out, you know, mix things up a little", I laughed. Maybe I'm just a retard, but I kinda like MC.
And, as many others have said, cortana, if only because she's smart, sassy and naked =P

screw Master Chief

Cortana is sexy (even though she's a hologram in a digital videogame)

anyways, my vote goes to the Covenant Grunts, by god those gun wielding giant hermit crabs are so funny and just adorable

Am I allowed to say Spartan 1337?

Kidding!

Though I do think I would choose the female spartan from "Homecoming"

The real Cortana. Of course, we've gotta all ignore the fact that she kidnapped dosens of children in the name of science...
Actually, it was in the name of protecting... what was it? Millions? Billions? Trillions? Bah, I don't know the number, but a few hundred kidnappings to stop [insert large number here] deaths is well justified. And the kids didn't hate their new life.

I'll say Master Chief. I know, not original, but I really like the guy for some reason.

Well, most Halo 'fans' nowadays probably dont know who the hell I am talking about, but Captain Keyes is definatly one of my favorite. No, not Miranda, but her father.
(to explain, most people who say they are Halo fans are either multiplayer only people or never played the first thus would not be familiar with this Halo 1 only character)
I'd agree, but mainly because of his role in the novels. Anyone else on this thread apart from me and Kiutu ever heard of Sigma Octanus IV? That's where it's at, baby! Oh yeah!

Ahem. Anyway, yeah, Jacob Keyes. Also, probably the Arbiter (underrated, yet as seen in Halo: The Cole Protocol he has such an intersting backstory) and Cortana (she's smart, sassy and a pseudo-naked holographic hot chick. What's not to like? Ahem.).
jacob keyes is a straight up beast, he was easily in my top 3 favorite characters to read about in the books.

but also probably kelly and the young master chief were my favorite characters

Except that they didn't know about the Covenant at the point the Spartan II project was starting. They were originally created to crush rebel factions which wanted to be independent from the big human federation which the UNSC represent, which is a somewhat less noble motivation.

Also, convincing a bunch of six year olds that they're happy with being taken away from their families and being trained to kill isn't really that great either.

You have made yourself a powerful enemy [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.183671-The-Sangheili-A-very-special-Vrex-review]

I kid really. It's not like I hold a bitter murderous grudge against the lowly humans of Earth for daring to consider themselves worthy on the same plain of existence as the Might of the Sangheili!

... it's totally not.
Well, sign me up too, as I didn't like him either. Throughout the whole of halo 3, he just seemed to turn up when he wanted too, and was only really there so there could be a character for player 2. Shame, as I thought he was okay in the second...
Actually from what I understand, originally he was going to be much more prominently featured but because of the angry response he got from the end results of Halo 2, Bungie reduced his role.
Plus I think the main reason he just dropped in and out whenever they felt like it was because it probably would have been difficult to have him in there as full on NPC support like Dom was in Gears of War and that players wouldn't like having him stay the whole time because again they cry about how it is 'Masterchief's story'.

Still, you requested to become an enemy of the mighty Vrex, thus you shall face the consequences with a swift brutal murder*.

*I am only semi serious about this.

I have played every halo game and read all the novels so I know who you are totally talking about.
I still hate how he gives us a pistol with like 10 bullets

Halo has characters?
Why yes it does, if you got your head out of call of duty you'd realize that

I still like Master Chief and the Arbiter, very mysterious and badass characters.

I was going to say Romeo because he's the only person in ODST I remember liking. Not sure why, I think he made me laugh once.

But if we're only counting up to Halo Wars, I suppose I have to go with Master Chief. Simple reason, he's the only character I know.
