I actually keep a bokuto right next to where I spend most of my time in my house, so that'd be used. As for improvised; definitely a chair.
Well, I have a katana-like sword. It only cost a little over a hundred dollars so it isn't flexible, and it needs to be sharpened I can so much as cut to the bone. And two kodachi with a cheap combat knife. I also have a few bokken that are vastly more battle-ready. There's also my assisted-opening knife which is usually in arms-reach on my desk.
But if I had my choice I'd use my troll-club. It's a four foot long wooden club with twenty-eight spikes on it. Fuck shit up 8D

A foot-long length of 2-inch thick steel rebar, wrapped in hockey tape. That thing is superbly brutal.
