Oh, and before I forget: There was an AWESOME shooter on the MegaDrive called Space Harrier. I loved that one as a kid.

YAY! Someone other than me who speaks of Dead Rising's glory. I have played that game at least a dozen times and will likely play it a dozen more.

You get +1 to your zombie disemboweling skill.
I guess that makes three of us! Although I wouldn't say that it's a "pretty new game" considering that it's over three years old. I have seriously played that game through over a dozen times though. It's just too easy to save all the survivors and complete all the scoops now. Do you ever find yourself deliberately taking measures to make the game harder?
I have. More than once I've made a whole new gamertag profile to start a new Dead Rising game instead of playing a new game with my lvl 50 Frank. So no MEGA Buster or Laser sword.

Are recent ones that come to mind. Not that these games are generally overlooked but I feel that they get more dislike than warranted.
Bayonetta is far from underrated.
Mine are Persona 3, Phantom Hourglass and No more heroes.

Yu-Gi-Oh: The Falsebound Kingdom. It's a TBS game, with great graphics and an incredible story, but no one bought it because of the Yu-Gi-Oh label, and the fact that it was on the Gamecube.

Shadowrun (360). My friend introduced me to this one a year or two back, and I absolutely love it. The fact that it's multiplayer only was a bit off-putting, but it just doesn't get old

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. This came out a year or two after Ocarina of Time, so everyone was still playing that, and the fact that you had to do everything in a short space of time pissed a lot of people off, but I think it was a cool gameplay feature. (That, and, I hated everyone in Termina and loved watching the moon crush them all)

Diddy Kong Racing. This came out for the N64 as well, but Mario Kart was a well selling kart racer, so nobody payed much attention to Diddy. If you've ever heard of Conker (i.e. Conker's Bad Fur Day - N64) Diddy Kong Racing was where he made his start

Crackdown. This was an older 360 game, but it was one of the first demos I downloaded when I got my 360, and I played it more than my actual games, so I went and bought it, and it was amazing. A lot of people think it's just a GTA rip off on steroids, but I think that the fact that you can jump over buildings and chuck cars everywhere was really entertaining

Yeah I did a perfect playthrough in which I wouldn't use the RMB, the laser sword or any firearms. The other survivors were also not allowed firearms and couldn't be healed. The highlight was definitely when Shinji beat the crap out of Adam with a handbag. Ah good times...

Wow, that's hard core. I have done most of that, but never without using firearms of any kind. I always try to keep at least a few shotguns around for the survivors to use.

When DR 2 comes out hit me up for some multiplayer. :)

Perfect Dark Zero for me. (I still don't get all the hate it receives. I mean, yeah it isn't Modern Warfare but it's still fun.)

Red Dead Revolver and Gun were both awesome westerners. Spiderman 2? Not sure if that's underrated or not, but I loved it.

There was a game based off of the Mummy Returns movie. While it's not a genre defining action game it does give you the opportunity to suck out peoples' souls and take you to various interesting locations that the movie only briefly ventures into and even a couple places where it doesn't.
