Cthulhu, or any other Lovecraftian semi-deity.
It surprises and concerns me that L Ron Hubbard, who set up Scientology as fiction in the first place [unless of course I misheard] is the one with an actual, large scale cult...I mean, religion. Whereas Lovecraft's Esoteric Order of Dagon is either non-existent or, so well hidden that I really don't have any chance of joining p.q

Cthulhu F'taghn!

On a side note: I would love to see Kratos take on Thor. Hell, I'd like to see Kratos take on the entirety of Valhalla as he did Olympus.

Bane the Black Hand, lord of Hatred, Fear, and Tyranny.

Either that or Vometia, the ancient Ankh-Morporkian goddess of being sick.

Slaanesh!

Who doesn't like a nynphomanic drug abusing hermaphrodite who's not wearing any pants and demands excessive pleasure as worship?

It might not be called a deity in games, but it's a giant, constantly burning, atomic fusing ball that provides everything we have on this planet. And, of course, we have quite a lot of proof that it actually exists.

you can't get a much better god than that.
Fictional how, then?
oh, right. forgot about that. but then, how do we know that aal of this is real and not just a dream of some other creature?

I'd have to go for all of the guild wars gods and godesses, especially
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Balthazar
Mostly because they go to such detail to create the whole 5 gods thing and for the most part nobody takes any note, even though they go into alot of detail with the whole back story of the world.

"I'm so happy,I could tear out your intestines and strangle you with them!"

And of course the result of smacking him upside the head.

I'm gonna second you on that one pardner.

*ugh...* Look, being "anti-religious" doesn't make you cool. I'm getting sick of every thread I go in having a thousand "Look at me! I'm atheist! I'm an individual! I'm not a conformist!" comments. Seriously. You know what he's talking about, so there's no reason to be a condescending jerk about it. It's like if him saying "What's your favorite video game item?" and you saying "Well, technically they aren't really items because they're just a mass of pixels that look like items." But I'm just preaching to a brick wall. I had to get it off my chest because it's really annoying. Welcome to the internet, you know?
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

Cthulhu, even though it is not really a god, but an immensely powerful alien being.
Yet,
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Yog-Sothoth is also awesome, and a real god as well. All is One in Yog-Sothoth.

The Dark Knight Sparda from the Devil May Cry Series.
The legendary Dark Knight Sparda. Don't you know it's in his contract that he has to be referred to as "the legendary Dark Knight Sparda"? Tsts

OT: I'd have to go with Shub-Niggurath, the Black Goat of the Woods with the Thousand Young, if only for nameness

I'll be happy to refute this with you in a civilized manner, but this is a Game Discussion Thread and that was a cheap-shot.

I loved the Triforce Goddesses when I was younger.

I quite like a few of the Oblivion gods now. Sheogorath as the best.

The Call of Cthulhu was a terrible short story compared to H.P.L.'s other shorts. What is spawned from something awful, can only be awful. People have just glorified it like Chuck Norris and other authors and story-tellers have done a better job from the original material. But it's all just fan fiction. :p

I was thinking the other day that although religion is such an important thing in life and therefore games there doesn't seem to be that many actual gods, most things just come down to a vague 'maker'.
So what's your favourite god? an honourable mention goes out to Kratos (despite what he did to laser cat, Grrr) but I can't think of many fictional ones.
My example and all time favourite is Shrykull
http://gtavicecity.web-log.nl/gtavicecity/images/shrykull.jpg

Additional: yes, I agree that all deities are fictional but I meant in games n' stuff. Cthulu and the xenomorphs will do, so long as some crazy bastard might worship them.
<color=purple> Haha, my answer is quite literally, "The Maker". Final Fantasy XIII endorses this deity and I must say that they do a good job of making his looming presence known. I like the mood that his/her existence sets and the role that this "Maker" plays overall in the story. You never actually encounter the all-powerful god, but I like it nonetheless.
