I think I'd have to go with Dolores, vocalist and guitars for The Cranberries.

She has a powerful and haunting voice with a killer Irish accent.

Hard to choose one, honestly. I listen to a lot of music with female vocalists...
For pure range and the chaos I do so love in music, though, I'll just go with

If you hate grindcore screaming, skip to 0:57. Yes, all of those vocals are her.
...minus the spoken word at the end, of course.

Honorable mentions range from Liv Kristine to Jada Pinkett-Smith (or Koren, as she likes to be known on that project).

My favorite would be St Vincent aka Annie Clark

All her songs have cool dynamics and contrasts that all come together in a nifty noise-pop-rock fusion thing. Plus during her solos, she tends to just punch the shit out of her guitar to make the sound she wants. It's fascinating to watch. Anyway, songs

Sara, as in Tegan and Sara. Emilie Autumn is a close second but Sara's songs just speak a bit more to me.
Also, she worked with Jonathan Coulton, singing Still Alive.
It was awesome.

Kate Bush. Every time, man. She's written a ton of great stuff, she's versatile, and she's a more than capable singer. I don't care if she can't pronounce Wuthering, her skills as a composer are more than enough to make up for it. Great dancer, too. Mass respect.

NIN AKA Nine Inch Nails AKA Trent Reznor

Into the Void
In this twilight
Head like a hole

EDIT: I think the Idea here was to obviously choose female artists, I also realised that i happned to just like more guy musicians.. soo

how can you not love that?
Well, we can't fault you for being a female.

OT: Scrolling through my media player, it's become apparent that I typically listen to predominantly male-fronted bands.

So, probably tied between:

I'd probably pick Sarah McLachlan overall, because I don't care much for Evanescence's work after their album Fallen.

I can't decide between Martha Argerich and Valentina Lisita. Wait, could I count Hatsune Miku?

Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian. Not because of any sex appeal/attraction, I just think his voice is astonishing. You really have to listen to a range of Blind Guardian songs across various albums to get an idea of how versatile his voice is. If you do listen to them, you should be aware that multitracking is a big part of their musical style, and all the vocal parts/harmonies (and there are A LOT in some songs) are done by Hansi. Some fans call it the "army of Hansis" effect :p

Well, I absolutely love Kaisa Jouhki of Battlelore's voice, but I really don't like the guys' vocals, which is a shame because all of their music is LotR related. Otherwise I'm going with Sabrina Valentine from Seven Kingdoms
This is the only song of theirs I know without the growling vocals, honestly they should do it more
This one's got some growl in it, but it seems to fit and that intro... /drool

There are a lot of female musicians to choose from, but in the end, I feel like my favorite is Shakira.

On top of being a great singer (who sings in multiple languages) and being down-right beautiful, she also knows how dance.

She has bigger balls than most male musicians.
Right on...

Favourite album? My favourites are Rid of Me, and Is this Desire?

Rid of Me is fucking raw as all hell, even the damn album cover looks intimidating enough.

Definitely the best album to show people who think women can't be as heavy and as angry as men when it comes to music.

Her new stuff is...well, I'm not a fan, let's just leave it at that. She just lost a lot of her spark after stories in the city.

Right now I do enjoy listening to Tegan and Sara.
Oh, and Lindsey Stirling, she rocks that violin like a boss.

'Is This Desire?' is probably my favourite followed closely by 'To Bring You My Love.'

Also love 'A Woman A Man Walked By' with John Parish for sheer insanity.

Swoooon

I actually still like her new stuff though. But for completely different reasons to her earlier stuff.

Come to think of it, the albums of hers that I like are all for different reasons.

Definetly has to be Sarah Vaughn. I love the music from 1930-1950. While I got a few modern artists and bands, very few of them have singers/lead singers that are female.
