I really try to find a different justification, but I keep coming back to this: Stay the hell out of the South.

There's always quirks. The UK seems to be the common comparison, so basically, you have a bit of a nanny state versus a bit of paranoia. There both different, both criticizable, both comparable. But you go to the south, and everything goes to hell. Stay out of the south.

They won't even be the superior country in the world soon anyway.

China is taking over.
I wouldn't worry about China. We have whole units dedicated to keeping things in that area of the world in check. If anything were to happen to the US it would have to get through the US Navy.

Good luck with that.

America is on the outs I say. I predict collapse in 50 years or less. Because I said so, that's why. Probably due to rampant economic instability caused by unresponsible free trade philosophies and this leading to secessionist movements in certain states eventually leading to the end of the US as we know it, possibly dissolving into smaller independant nations based on region or perhaps an entirely changed USA.

This makes me angry somehow. I think it's because you went to NEW ORLEANS and had a positive impression of the US but think the rest of it is some Nazi police state. New Orleans has ever been a scum-hole, now it's a RUINED scum-hole. *hates almost everyone from nawlens*

At any rate, no, we don't have Overwatch patrols waiting to scoop up tourists and put them in prison.

Come to Texas. We will cook you assorted meats.

I'm scared of them because they have fighter jets constantly patroling the canadian and mexico borders and land mines scatered across the closest beach to cuba.
actually, we keep the jets parked in nice little hangars on standby, ready to intercept any perceived threat. we haven't done round the clock airborne operations since the cold war ended. its just too damn expensive.
you're going to have to explain the mined beach to me though. I never heard of it (and I keep up with stuff like this)
Sorry about the thing with the land mines it turns out was misinformed about that and I apoligize about it.
yeah, its fine. stuff happens. Though you have to admit, mining a beach would be pretty badass is certain scenarios... lol, jk

WTF is with everyone hating on the South, it's really a good place and despite what I said before, Alabama is also a good place, and I guarantee you there are no dragons there.

A government should fear its people.

All of what you hear has likely been run through the mass media which sometime after JFK's assassination became nigh entirely sensationalistic.

Also I've heard from some that they would be willing to have somewhat less of the freedoms constituted by the founding fathers so that they and their children might be safer. In response I quote Benjamin Franklin.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Reminds me of a little something in Thomas Pain's The Crisis where a dude standing next to his young kid says about fighting the Revolutionary War "let there be peace in my time" and he's like "a REAL father would rather fight now so that his child could have peace, pussy." That's just my paraphrased version though.

Not sure of the Jets though. I've seen F/A-18's patrolling my area (New Jersey) and up and down the coast. Florida to Massachusetts (My family travels a lot). There is some military facility near my house, hidden deep in the woods. Like 5 minutes away by car to the road enterence. Most people don't know about it. Multiple times, I've seen unmarked trucks being waived in by soldiers in uniforms, with guns. I should explore there some day.
don't mistake a training exercise for a patrol. It could be a flyover for a race or other public event. Word of advice on any military compound: they can't legally shoot you, but you can get in a world of shit for snooping around where you're nose doesn't belong. Military police take their job seriously, especially in light of the Ft. Hood incident, and the several other attempted military base attacks. My guess is that you're "secret base in the woods" is a Natl. Guard armory or outpost of some sort, and if thats the case, then its not surprising that you would see civilian looking cars going in and out.

I guess so. Does the National Guard uniform identical to the Armys at a glance i.e. coloring? It was a desert uniform. Also, there were never races in my area, so i doubt it was for that. Since it was only 2 planes at a time, It might have been a training exercise.

You're right about that because it would be awesome to mine a beach on a day when everyone would be to it. kidding

No, not really.

The population of America is more scary though.

But really, no.
Not unless they put skulls on poles and surround all of America with them
I believe that is what will adorn the new wall along the Mexican border if they ever build it.

OT: It is kind of crazy. My brother was going back over to Iraq. When security checked his luggage before he got on the plane, they said he couldn't have his toothpaste because it was over the regulated acceptable amount. I feel safer already thank you airport security I won't have to worry about terrorist brushing my teeth.

Considering we are the targets of batshit insane radical Muslims who want to destroy Western culture I'd say we have some right to protect our airports. Some security measures are extreme yes but we are just trying to protect our national soil.

If you want to complain about being too strict on security, visit Israel.

yes, they wear the exact same uniforms. The only difference would be in the unit patches.
Yeah, it was probably a training exercise. If it happens with any frequency, you probably live somewhere between a naval port, and an inland naval air station.

We're not that bad, honestly! Just stay away from the south...

Edit: Tsk tsk on you, believing the media. Tsk Tsk...
I don't get why this whole "Southerners are evil" crap is still around. It's only if you go into the DEEP, DEEP south like Georgia will you actually have to worry.

I live in Texas and it's fabulous over here (Bush was just one person - not an entire state). Nicest people you'll ever meet.

I love the trend in this thread. America is ok, except in the south. The people who are from the south say the south is ok... except for the deeper south. It's genuinely hilarious.
