In addition, the most exclusive area of the site was reserved for members who could provide content that showed children suffering. "If the girl looks totally comfortable, she's not in distress, it does NOT belong I this section."

Members were also segregated according to the degree of original content that they provided, or the degree to which the administrators trusted them. Classifications included "Super VIP," "VIP," and "Member." According to one user's guilty plea, the "SuperVIP" level was reserved for those members actually "producing child pornography and posting homemade child pornography to the bulletin board."

Pedophilia is a mental disorder. If the users of those forums did not create the child porn themselves then sentencing them to a prison will serve only to aggravate their situation. We should help them deal with their illness rather than ostracize them for having it.

Fuck their situation. Even if they didn't make it, they still used it rather than calling the police as soon as they found it so that less kids would be hurt in the future. I have no pity for these 72 people, my sympathies will be with the real victims of this (the children).

I think the distinction here is sex. This is not something that you can rationally analyse as rationally murder is worse than abuse, to follow this I think we have to go to a very uncomfortable place of going inside our minds and examining our subconscious fears. Fears not just of others but fear of ideas that can infect ourself.

I think there is some Freudian aspect to this inconsistency in wrath for murderers vs abusers. I think it has do to with repressed desires for mass killing and underage sexual attraction. I don't know, I'm not a psychologist but I did just watch a documentary on psycho-analysis over the 20th century and it demonstrated quite how powerful the technique can be.

Yeah I agree that it's probably the sex that makes the reactions on these topics so very extreme. It also does not help that it is impossible to discuss the topic in a decent and objective manner without being branded as a pedo.

But just think about it some, people watched a picture(movie? idk) that portrays an act that is absolutely despicable, how does that make people deserve the death penalty. They did not harm any children, they did not kill anyone. They just watched something on the internet...

Before everyone immediately condemns these guys to death. Treatment doesn't seem perfect by a long-shot, but rehabilitation does exist. And they will all face very hefty jail-time. Some will probably die inside, due to inmates or old-age. If any do get out, their movements will be heavily monitored.

The point is, you shouldn't condemn someone to death when they are quite obviously lacking in sanity. You should attempt to cure it first.
