I don't see the issue, it might be because my space brain mind is so far advanced that I IGNORE idiots that do stupid things like that, or maybe I'm just so awesome that I've evolved beyond simple human emotions and become something more Vulcany just sayin'...

Well, Tito, this is what you can expect if you read the Daily Telegraph. It is truly infamous in this country for being more full of nonsense than a Terminator film and more subjective than Sarah Palin's ideas on motherhood.

Its audience is (older) people who dislike video games and others who don't care for the real news, so it's often feeding the "video games are evil" opinion balloon with hot air, even though grandmas play more Wii than we often do these days.

With that said, this story isn't so much an example of bias as it is just a funny story, published for the amusement of stupid people when watching even more foolish people.

I teabag dead bodies all the time. I must be a sex offender and a necrophiliac.... I also do it in games as well.

I really like how everyone is 'get over it' rather than 'the guy is being inappropriate'.

Is it a mountain over a mole-hill? That's purely subjective. But if she feels violated, she feels violated. It's the griefer who should be punished, not her.

Edit: That said, no, it's not sexual assault. It's sexual harassment, though, and we ignore this kind of thing at our peril. Just because it's a virtual world doesn't suddenly mean social norms fly out the window.
Social norms don't really fly out the window, but there's a different set of social norms. Just like how if I were to fly over to Japan or Germany, suddenly there's a whole different list of what is and isn't acceptable to do in public. Some things would be more strict where other things would be more lenient. Online is no different.

The guy was an idiot, no one is denying this. The thing is, there's really no reasonable way to deal with the problem without an unreasonable cost on Sony's part. Not having Home (or even a PS3 for that matter), I can't really say what the moderation process is like, but more than likely by the time a moderator would have shown up to do anything about it, the guy would have moved-on. The only possible way to have an instant reaction speed would be if Sony hired one moderator for every tiny area of Home. The only problem with this is that it simply isn't reasonable in an online format. Sure it's fine to hire a cop IRL to watch some venue while nothing happens, because if something DOES happen, then someone actually will get hurt (or have goods lost, or whatever). With online though, honestly, nothing happened.

Well ok, so the player's feelings were hurt. But are we seriously worried about this? Someone is far too emotional for their own good, so now Sony needs to hire an exessively-large crack team of uber-mods who can watch every corner of Home at every second lest someone's feelings get hurt? Was the person making the complaint in this article a 5-year-old? No? Then she can get over it.

Yes, the guy was a douche and a moron. But in all reality (or in this case virtuality? o_O ), he did nothing wrong.

Hardly something to be surprised about, especially in Home of all things. We made a female character and were suddenly surrounded by guys trying to talk to our voiceless character(this is before they removed all talk). I think we were called ***** and n***** over a hundred times, and had a dozen friend requests sent to us. Home is a sexist and racist online community, just like 70% of the internet, not surprised at all.

While the behavior of the assaulter was obviously out of line, to compare it to actual sexual assault is a bit much. People who have been actually assaulted (as in, physically) should not be lumped in with this sort of foolishness since it cheapens the term, methinks.

EDIT: That having been said, there should be options for ignoring the person and as someone else posted, there are more "get over it" type posts then there ought to be. Harassment shouldn't be tolerated in any form, if it can be stopped and/or punished. Really, shouldn't we be more disgusted with this type of puerile behavior?

LOL. Props to him though, even if he is a douchebag.
No props to the stupid woman who thought she was being sexually assaulted, in a video game.
Any sane person would just have to read that sentence and realise she's a collossal idiot.

Just out of curiosity, after reading most of the posts in this thread is seems that most (not all) of you describe the 'assailant' as a him.

Why is this? It doesn't say if it's a bloke or woman so why the presumption that it's a male that's the guilty party?

As for the story in general, I think it's a pretty stupid and annoying thing for the person to be doing however to say it's sexual assault is just going too far. I think people who have been the victim of sexual assault before might be a bit annoyed at this kind of story.

My point exactly... what next? Soon they'll be trying to pass laws preventing teabagging in any online game.

It was this guy wasn't it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTs4IgOm5yQ

And no, it was not sexual assault as there was no reason to feel like the person is at risk of actual harm. What it is is a bit of irritation caused, most likely, by an insecure, immature, pizza-faced 40 year old virgin. Nothing to be afraid of, everything to be mocked. I woulda name/shamed the little twat.
