Well yes, apparently women have more rights than men now.

Hitting a women is sexual assault. Being hit by one gets you labeled as a wuss. Either way, men lose.

Offering to help a woman do something she is struggling with means you're looking down on her. Not offering to help means you're an ill-mannered brat. Either way, men lose.

There is one thing that I find amusing. I've heard women making speeches about their suppressed rights. And I say ... give them all the rights, and the exact same rights as all the men. Heck, why bother to differentiate between men and women at all. Lets have ALL politics, ALL offices, ALL jobs, ALL sports equal for men and women everywhere. There is nothing women can't do that men can.

Personally, I'd like to see them playing American football, rugby and wrestling with the guys ^_^
Well, Hey .... you wanted to be treated as exact equals!
Yeah! Thank fuck you were keeping all those heavy responsibilities that my underdeveloped, emotional, female brain just couldn't manage! With the level of maturity you just displayed, they were clearly in the right hands.

You can't hit a woman because their bones are made from glass.

I learned that from It's Always Sunny.

The main problem is that equality of the sexes doesnt exist in our current world. At all. Some men are sexist against women and they suck, and trying to counter this by giving women priveliges over men is certainly not equality. It is however, neccesary.

A good example is the executive branch of the norwegian government. By law, the various ministers for things have to be divided 40/60 % women and men. This means that if 60% of the slots are filled with men, the remaining 40 MUST be filled by women. I see this as sexism toward both sexes. Shouldnt the positions be given to those with the best qualifications regardless of gender? I think so, but unfortunately, many men (for example) would still only give these positions to other men. The system is devised to ensure that blatant sexism cannot occur, but this does not mean that it is equality.

Thank you, this sums up my feeling quite well (though if I said it out loud I would probably get maced by someone, a medival mace)

But yes they should really calm down. One memorable moment is when I held a door open for one woman and she repayed that now with a 'thanks' or anything, but lecture on how women can do things on their own and im a chauvinist pig for trying to hold her back.

My reaction: 0_0 wat?
This happened to me, and I didn't hold the door for her later. And got yelled at for not holding the door, and a lecture on chivalry being dead.
I can't win!
Apparently, men need to exercise their telepathetic/telepathic abilities. Or hide in a box.
Wow, sounds like you just had plain bad luck with random crazy people!

I would have unceremonisiously told them to go and f*** themselves- that is just plain rude and horrible.

Male or female, if someone holds the door open for you, they're being polite and you should return the favour by having manners.

Anyway, I think we need to get a good definition of actual modern feminism before this thread goes any further because it's such a huge, huge topic and it's quite complex.

A vague OP doesn't really point is in any particular direction...

That's my two cents.

And now, for something completely different:

Feminists are fine. Radical feminists, who I like to call "Feminazis", are not. They are pretty awful people, about on par with white supremacists in their ignorance and hatred of the world around them. One good example is that totally whacked-out ***** who wrote a mind-meltingly idiotic "review" of Firefly, in which she insisted that Wash regularly rapes Zoe and that Joss Whedon rapes his own wife, among many other awful things.

Here it is, in all it's revolting glory. (I found it again just now by googling "crazy feminist ***** Firefly review") http://users.livejournal.com/_allecto_/34718.html

Reading it certainly inspired hatred in me--hatred of this woman.

I know not all feminists are like this pathetic piece of shit, but it pains me to read all the comments supporting her dementia.
A man having consensual sex with his wife is a rapist? His wife, who famously, could kick his cracker head in without thinking about it?

Certain feminists, yes.

The ones who believe in true equality between sexes are just fine.

The ones who truly believe women to be superior to men are just as bad as the asshole men who look down on women just because of their sex.

They've almost become what they hate.

Can you name some specific examples of why you think that way OP? Just curious.
Off the top of my head, and may or may not be what the OP is referring to: demanding to be treated equally then being offended when men don't hold doors for them, insisting on special treatment for various jobs (best example I can think of being different tests for men and women for LEOs and firefighters), and various things like that.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that wondering about it is all sorts of silly. All you can really do is treat everyone equally, regardless of whatever factors they cannot control. Worrying if someone wants more won't help anything, just don't let them be treated as special.

Oh sweet mother of....

I heard about this witch!! I thought she was made up like the boogey man! :p

Seriously, what a fucking nutter!
Another case in favour of introducing a control on who gets to put stuff up online....

Ain't no power in the 'Verse that'll stop Zoe.

Plus in one of the episodes, the couple are shown blissfully holding hands and exchanging affectionate pillow talk.

BOOM.

Argument over.

Seriously, someone call the fucking loony bin and get this lunatic committed!!

someone gets it...i've been saying this kinda shit for years...women only want to be feminists when its fucking convenient...

example the girl will say "hey lets go out but you (the guy) has to pay... another time the guy may say "hey lets go out but this time you bloody pay" and the woman will say "why the fuck should i pay...it's my money i worked hard for it and im not goin to take care of your cheap ass" wtf is that shit?

i'm not saying that all women are like this because some women will be fair and do stuff for their men or even do something for a man...but the majority of them want to pull this feminism and "chivalry is dead" BS only when its convenient...

you know i'd like it if a girl would for once open a door for me...just once...

Its gotten to the point where they want to have their cake and eat it too, be seen as equal but keep all the old privileges they used to enjoy, like having doors held for them, having their man hold their shopping for them and whatnot.

And being able to hit people without retribution/say whatever they like about men without rebuttal.

I mean, I can multi-task plenty well thank you, i can iron, I listen to what people say, I've not hit anybody since I was like 5 and my cooking is good. Anybody would have thought, from the way some more radical feminists speak, that we were all slavering brutes possessed of only one idea: the idea that what shouldn't be fucked should be fought.

I saw a humorous anecdote on Alan Davies: Teenage rebellion last night about hardcore feminists in the 80s. Check it out, it should be on 4od by now. Suffice to say it was pretty unbelievable.

This isn't to say i don't like women, just the ones with the feminism rod rammed too far up them. Most women are easy going about that sort of thing and I see nothing wrong with equality and mutual respect, but when they start disparaging us and calling it feminism it just annoys me.

edit: I retract what I said about doors, of course you should hold them open for women. Or anyone for that matter, its basic politeness.

In summary: Equal means equal. I think in the more modern countries, women are equals now, but the annoying thing is that they keep pushing for more rights. They've become equal. What more do they want?
Yeah, they get on average paid less than men for the same work. this has improved
They're more likely to be assaulted, infinitely more likely to be raped, and more likely to be killed.
They're encouraged to be sexually repressed, because if you're sexual you're a slut. No, sluts are people who are prostitutes ore who have sex with EVERYONE. I call males who have the same behaviors similar names. A woman can be confident in her sexuality They're encouraged to be quiet around others because being outspoken is bitchy. No, they have the right to free speach. I'm fine with anyone of any gender voicing their opinions
Femininity itself is associated with being vapid (like duh), shallow (all girls think about is shoes!), meek (save me, manly mansome!) and submissive.

Think about it for a moment. When was the last time you seen a woman start one of these 'has feminism gone too far?!' threads? Yeah, because it is almost always guys saying WOMEN ARE TRYING TO BE SUPERIOR NOW. Who starts it is irrelevant!

Err... no. Sorry. Not the case.
Every women who has described herself as feminist that I have encountered has acted as if equal means better than males, not equal to males. I do know they are more likely to be raped, or sexualy assaulted. This happens to men as well, but what does that have to do with rights for a civilized society? In a civilized society (let us eliminate the crimes), every so-called feminist has acted this way. There are normal feminists who truly want to be equal, but others take it to far.

From what I take we all have encountered the crazy hypocrite "feminists". The sad part is I never in my life met (face to face) a true feminist so its impossible for me to make an objective estimation of whether what I see is a loud minority (with bad luck on my part) or are there just a huge number of nutcases out there in the world. Anybody can enlighten me on the state of things out there?

I have trouble thinking that you have any right to make claims about feminism if you can't add an extra o to that "to" of yours. A spelling error like that in the title shows a total lack of respect for the topic.

OT: My God, I've heard this one too fucking much. Learn what feminism actually is, rather than just accepting whatever Family Guy tells you. It's not perfect, not by a long shot, but it's not how you describe it.

Also, there's a lot of guys pushing their own sexuality onto women at completely inappropriate moments. The amount of times I've had creepy old guys coming up to me and freaking me out with their shit is insane. And don't you dare go outside without a big shit eating grin on your face or it's GIVE US A SMILE, LOVE!
.
I've seen this happen before a lot of times. I used to work in a pub and I regularly saw female employees get sexually harrassed like this. It pissed me off so much. But I also had the good fortume of working with some awesome women that wouldn't stand for that sort of shit.

Usually the guys that say this are older men though, the 'old school' misogonyst crowd that don't know any better. But I've seen younger guys of my generation pulling this same crap. There's really no need for it at all - makes me ashamed of my gender.

In my view, everybody is horrible. Women are horrible. Men are horrible. Children are especially horrible with their evil little eyes and giant heads.

I couldn't say if we're at the point of equality yet, I haven't seen the world as a woman yet, but I can say statistics don't help the cause.

Equality is when being born a man or a woman doesn't matter in terms of opportunities. It does not mean everything is divided down the middle, that 50% of all nurses are men, 50% of all shareholders are women and both sides make the exact same amount of money. I'd say when you start favoring one gender to balance these things out 50/50, when being a man is an advantage if you want to work in a kindergarten or being a woman is an advantage to getting a construction job, this thing has gone so far as to hinder equality.

considering how in history we have always been treated in the eyes of the law as second class citizens we just want our time in the power.

so get with the program and stop messing it up for the ladies. also they have boobs, and they are nice to have sex with. indeed they are.
