Sure, he'd stop any attacker effortlessly, but anyone (even people who have no problem with you) would see Fawkes, decide he's a threat to humanity, and get you bombed from the air.

Goku: There's nothing in this world that could hurt him even a little bit. He can teleport and destroy entire planets effortlessly.
Sam Fischer: He can blend in anywhere, steal anything and no mission is too hard. For those moments where I need a bodyguard but he can't be seen.
Spike Speagel: He is an amazing fighter, agile, dead accurate, quick-thinking, experienced and isn't afraid to die. He is also a skilled pilot that could provide air support and evac.
Fawkes: He is seemingly invinceable, has a minigun that shoots freaking lasers, and he has already proved to be a perfect bodyguard on our 100+ hour adventures.
I would chose Cole McGrath because he can shoot lightning from HIS HANDS. Also, good or evil he always does what he is told.

I'd go with Kratos, but upon (brief) reflection I don't think he'd be very good in anything other than the "psychotic murder" department. And while that might seem to be a good thing at first, I'd be a bit more comfortable with it if I knew I could trust him in the "telling friend from foe from EMPLOYER" department.

Chell (Portal)- Since she has the portal gun she'd be able to attack people from all sides.
Chun-Li (Street Fighter)- She takes on tough guys and whatever the hell Blanka is in her free time, she's already more than qualified.

I'd have to go with a whole host of bodyguards: Vash the Stampede, Nicholas Wolfwood, Father Abel Nightroad, Father Tres Iquis, Drizzt Do'Urden, Genjo Sanzo and Cho Hakkai. All guys who are easy on the eyes and kick major butt at fighting. I'd throw Alucard in there, too, but he, Abel and Tres would keep me up at night with their fighting, and a woman needs her rest, you know.

I would let the Greil Mercenary's (from Fire Emblem) protect me, a large group of people with different weapons,skills and abilities; hell yeah!

- Bayonetta (she can headbutt a skyscraper, has a lightsaber (in my saved game), and is capable of suplexing a dragon multiple times).
- War (Darksiders. Noble of heart, has a giant sword, and fights like Link).
-My Fallout 3 character (he has a bunch of shit, and in the case of his death, he explodes and comes back to life).
- DOG and Alyx (Half-Life series. Alyx calls out a target and DOG rips it apart)
