Im an American, havent even played table top 40k in 6 years, but dam, i have every Abnett 40k book (haven't read the Ravenor series, but i have the omnibus) i have both Ghost's Omnibus's, plus either a paperback or hard cover copy of each, and Legio, Double Eagle, Eisenhorn, etc.
But yeah, Corbec's death hit me hard (I am in the military myself, and i literally had an officer in my unit just like him... kind of freaked me out) Caffran hit me the worst, I found myself relating to him the most, in his mannerisms and attitudes. oh well. 'Ven is probably gone from the series, and Ill miss him, even if he is still alive.

Malich's death in Cards Empire was shocking, as it literally happened without warning, mid-page and mid paragraph, and he went from main character to dead, and the other character Cpt. Cole picked up.

Eli Vance's death sucked
Just about everyone in Dead Rising lol
Mass Effect and Fallout 3 had plenty of those moments (WHY DOGMEAT!!! WHY??? Ohh! PUPPIES PERK!!!)

^This, and I almost cried (manly tears) when Gaz died in COD4.[/quote]

this. when i had unlocked infinite ammo, you wouldnt like to know how swiss-cheesed Zakhaev was when i was finished. and then Infinity Ward try to wipe away the tears by creating some shit named ghost in MW2.

at least we had a small (VERY small) bonus in that Price survived.

also
when Ornella sacrifices herself in Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Tribes of the East to make the super garrison open. fuck you Orlando for creating that barrier.

that son of a ***** George RR Martin keeps killing off some of the best caricters. not going to name names though because not everyone has read the books.
Ninja'd.

However, take heart in the fact that

Sandor Clegane is still alive.
Wait what... Conjecture I say!!!1

Now I do hope that tough half baked bastard is alive, but I'm not going to hold out too much hope. Yeah, George has a habit of killing off people you like, but he does just as good a job of killing off people who Really have it coming to them as well. Love those books, still waiting for the next one like everyone else.

I take it a few people are waiting with interest for the HBO series to begin production this year?

I have been genuinely happy when video game characters died except for one game.

I just have intense hatred for a lot of characters, solely because I'm 'supposed' to like them, which causes me to hate them.

Anyways;

Throughout the early game you're taught that the thousands of little faceless creatures go through a very interesting life cycle;

They are born from the central soul repository, and go through their lives, potentially living forever.

When a Darwinian is 'killed', it's soul is freed and slowly floats back up to the repository, where it's experiences in life are shared with the whole, and it is given a rating on how successful it was in life, and eventually returns to begin the cycle again.

However, at one point, you fight large flying dragon-like creatures, who swoop down and turn your Darwinians from green to ghostly white, and no soul is released.

After the level, you're told that they are soul stealers.

When they attack the Darwinians, they literally destroy the soul, leaving behind an empty shell, doomed to roam the area it was attacked; searching for it's soul forever.

It also tells you that the Darwinians have never had an understanding of death as we know it; the fact that they can actually be destroyed permanently, eventually sinking into oblivion, is terrifying.

I've never felt so bad for the death of digital beings.

I was saddened by

Reverend Scaler's death. He was such an awesome guy. Never before had the world seen such a evangelising member of the clergy. I wasn't sad at first, and there is a reason why, but later on, when you hear more about him, it really tore me up. Go read it, it's fucking awesome.

Gandohar's Death, even though it was caused by me. He was awesome. I loved Gandohar, and was very surprised when he turned out to be the antagonist. I thought he was there for me, but no, he was the bastard who wanted to resurrect Aziraal. Gandohar you sly one.

The games are old so i dont think i need spoiler warnings here

I miss Aerith the most, I bawled when she died ( i was like 12 ) and Zack in Crisis core upset me (I was 19 :( ).
another one that always gets me to watch is from the first MGS on psx Both when sniper wolf is bleeding out and going over her story with Otacon :( and worst of all when Greyfox shows up and sacrifices himself to wound Metal Gear so you have a chance.... :( i went tits at liquid for that.

Aeris. That one really depressed me.
That ***** was one of my most levelled characters at the time.

Colm Corbec and Agun Soric were depressing. Colm held the Ghosts together and Agun was just doing his best to keep his unit alive.
A fellow reader of the ghosts... Bragg poor old bragg. I really did mourn him. Have you read the one in the creepy house? Dry skulls with the tops sawn off. Cant remember its name.

Oh, man, When they killed that big black man in The Green Mile...I didn't actually cry but it's the closest i've been in years.
I was in a similar position when.

When the Captain collapses from his multiple bullet wounds after watching the U-boat sink.

From books:
Alistair McKeon's death at the end of At All Costs. By all accounts the most major secondary character, he'd been there from the beginning, starting as a Lieutenant Commander, dying as a Vice Admiral at the Battle of Manticore. Same goes for Andreas Venizelos a few books earlier. And you just know that Andrew Lafollet is going to die in the next book, he's escaped death too long when others, like Mattingly, died.
I'm not going to read the spoiler seeing as I'm only on the second book thanks to you.
but alas, while quoting you I saw a name.
tell me it's not so! tell me! :O

Hinzerhaus.
I should know. I immortalised it as a map on a game.
Dry Skulls In A Dusty Valley, With All The Tops Sawn Off
or if you meant the book, that would be Only In Death.

Wind Waker.

After all that effort, all the sailing I had to do and the people I had to be nice to, I leave the most important thing in the world to me at the bottom of the ocean in order to beat Ganondorf.

Though it did kind of hurt my hand...

Who are some fictional characters that you missed when they died? I know they're only fiction but sometimes we grow attached to characters like Master Chief and Harry Potter and we don't want to see them die.

I just finished a Sandman Book (just so people won't throw a fit I won't say which) and Dream died at the end. I was very, er, shocked and upset. Although he isn't the first fictional character to take a dirt nap (pardon the pun), he's the only one I can think of right now.

So, I pose the question to you, fellow escapists, what are some fictional characters that YOU miss?
Don't worry, Steve loves puns.
