Colm Corbec and Agun Soric were depressing. Colm held the Ghosts together and Agun was just doing his best to keep his unit alive.
Corbec especially, but Bragg and Caffran were pretty depressing too.

off topic: Good to know there are Ghost fans on this forum :D
This for books...especially Bragg. Thank god they haven't killed Larkin yet.
In games?
The death of Eli Vance, i'm gonna enjoy killing that Advisor
Fred from Harry Potter, 355 in Y: The Last Man, Russian Batman in Superman: Red Son, Rorsharch from Watchmen, Duke Leto Atriedes in Dune

i was so upset i've been on a brotherhood-slaughtering rampage since then, leaving all the other gangs to mind their own business...

the only other one i can think of is dogmeat. i couldnt play fallout 3 for a week cos i was sad about him dying *blushes*

oh, and dumbledore. but then i got over that.

I'm never going to get over this one...
All the people in Tenpenny tower who I convinced to let the ghouls in...
And were slaughtered for their kindness.
My mourning was done with railway spikes.

^This, and I almost cried (manly tears) when Gaz died in COD4.
this. when i had unlocked infinite ammo, you wouldnt like to know how swiss-cheesed Zakhaev was when i was finished. and then Infinity Ward try to wipe away the tears by creating some shit named ghost in MW2.

at least we had a small (VERY small) bonus in that Price survived.

also
when Ornella sacrifices herself in Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Tribes of the East to make the super garrison open. fuck you Orlando for creating that barrier.

that son of a ***** George RR Martin keeps killing off some of the best caricters. not going to name names though because not everyone has read the books.
Makes you wanna hate him and his damned books, doesn't it? If only there weren't so good.
I've closed my books in anger on more than one occasion.

Others:
Wash from Firefly.
Nariko from Heavenly Sword.

I got physically violent with an arm chair after Light Yagami died. I wanted him to win, he was doing a good thing. Also that whole series was a brilliant idea, and had brilliant characters and twists. AND THEY KILLED MY FAVORITE CHARACTER! Fuckin bullshit.

After Sovereign gets destroyed and the pieces fly into the Citadel Tower, it seems Shepard has been hit by them. Then, perhaps not so suprisingly, he/she appears from behind the rubble.

I was litteraly shouting "What the hell Bioware?!" until it got 'resolved'.

Avoiding spoilers is hard.

I cried when

Sirius Black died in Harry Potter. I was literally in tears and was so angry at JK Rowling. Not one tear fell for Dumbledore though.
Bastard!
Dumbledore deserves way more tears!

And for me? ...

Hellsing. Vernedead. Didn't cry, but that was pretty bad. Though, what happened with Ceras after was awesome. One that made me cry? Again, Hellsing, and I actually cried at Anderson's death. The whole "tears" speech, and "Tha children... they air callin' mae..." actually made me cry. Now, mind, it was extremely late, I had gotten up early, and I was just extremely tired.

I think it was... Alice? In Cell, although the bastards that killed her got what was coming to them.

Raggedy Man made one of them crucify the other and then slit his own wrists... or throat...
Definitely this. King seems to be enormously skilled at creating deep, amiable characters and then killing them in the most brutal of fashions. Ala The Dark Tower. As a manly man, I don't know how to cry, but God damn, King can get the job done.

I've never cried at any of these (not really the sort who tears up often), but these fictional characters all brought me the most grief:

Wash and Book in Serenity really got me. There was so much we'd yet to find out about Book, and Wash was one of my favorite characters, second only to Jayne. Book's death occurred off-screen, which cheapened the event for me. But Wash...not so much. You're a leaf on the wind, my friend.

If you've never read anything by this author, you really must. This, the second book in the series, gets to a slow-building first act. You know something bad's going to happen, but killing off Joslire, the one truly moral character in the whole book...Yes, we get it, it's a crapsack universe. Jos was my favorite character from the first book, he was probably the only character our protagonist could rely on completely...which is likely why he died. But it still hit me so hard I had to stop reading for a few hours.

I include this one because the decision to kill either Kaidan or Ashley is probably the most agonizing choice I'd faced in a game yet. I hadn't anticipated growing so attached to a bunch of pixels. Throughout the whole mission, I kept having this feeling one of them was going to die. But I thought it would be whoever you sent with Kirahe. I never thought they'd put the choice in your hands...that was rough. Sorry Ash.
