Final Fantasy XIII is 50+ Hours long.

I remember dumping about 60 + hours into Final Fantasy IX so, I'm not surprised to see this one being 50+ hours. I say Bring It On!!

50+ hours for only the main story? Knowing FF games there's at least another 50+ of side missions, likely more.

That's looking at easily 100+ hours of gameplay for me. Knowing my OCD when it comes to RPGs, I'll probably be somewhere around the 200+ mark with ease.

Anyone know if they're putting in a New Game+ function?

Also, wtf Square, releasing it in March? I have exams to revise for. :'(

Never once studied in my life, and I got the highest mark my school has ever gotten in the School Certificate(basically an exam about everyhting you learned in Highschool) I got 81 out of 90.

I'm getting a Master's and I rarely study. I spend more of my time doing instead. I read, I write, I come up with lesson plans, etc.

Back on topic, RPGs are going to be long. Almost all of the JRPGs I've played have been 70+ hours of stuff. Eternal Sonata was the exception, it lasted 40 hours. Even if it was not meant to last that long, Terranigma lasted 40 hours if you did everything, Gunman's proof lasted 20 hours, and I got done with GrimGrimoire in a relatively short time I can still play the game for days on end.

I heard about this a while ago in the Final Fantasy Group, i am really excited for this game and want to get it as soon as i can. And then play it for as long as i can, all of it.

Yeah that Final Fantasy Group kicks ass with its news (shameless self promotion WOO)
but yeah if FFXII is any barometer(I hope I am using the right term) to how long this game will be it will be bursting at the seems with hours of fun.

Dragon age was suppose to be 100 hours long and I got it done in 25... all i'm sayin skip the cutscenes and it will roll into around 15 to 20 minutes ^.^... 50 hours of turn based combat?... Is that because you can't decide whether to use ultra blizzzzeraginachupawanti now or 5 battles from now because it seems that an even bigger creature is around the corner?

I must say, it seems like it's been a while since I played a game that really took a long time, and now they're all coming along at once... ish. I just got Dragon Age, and plan to bury most of my time in to that until I get another game. I really do hope 50+ hours is a minimum. My playtime on FFX ended up at over 200 hours, and I still had stuff to do.

As someone who can't really afford to go out and buy a new game to finish in a day, I'm actually a big fan of games I can spend a lot of time on. It actually feels like I'm getting decent value for money.

Don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy 8 is a fantastic game. To say 'the men were men' though is, well, ridiculous.

On topic - Good. Let's just hope that doesn't become an excuse for scrimping on the side-quests...

im all for games that go +10 hours, but ive seen the trailer for FF13, and looks like its just squeeky 5 - 12 year olds beating up experienced veterans of combat in impossibly cool ways (i dont like paraphrasing yahtzee, but this is the only way to describe it)
maybe it will prove me wrong, but ill let reviews decide that
i mainly liked ff8, because there were very few that was less that 5 feet tall, and no cat ears

And until we have a copy of FFXIII to play we won't see how long it takes to complete with all the sidequests. 50-60+ hours for just the main story is nothing to shake a stick at.

So? Persona 3 and 4 are at least 90 hours, i've clocked over 100 hours in Pokemon, Fallout 3, and other Final Fantasies aswell, it's a good sign

Persona 3 & 4 are also about 80% grind.

Anyway, that's nice for fans, I guess, as long as it isn't 50 hours of repetitive grind or 50 hours of sucky story or gameplay or anything.

I'll stick with RPGs though.

FFVs13 is a darker FF game with real time combat, aslong as it plays reasonably well I'll most likely buy it.

It's made by the same team that made Kingdom Hearts.

I fucking love Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts is fucking awesome.

So vsXIII will also be fucking awesome.

Well, I've never really been into JRPGs (don't kill me!), but I think I might just get this. The premise and characters look interesting enough, and the combat mechanics seem fairly smooth. I guess I'll just have to wait for the demo.

49 of those hours could be tedious fetch quests and grinding. Let us not forget The Witcher axiom: long =/= good. I'd rather play a 10-20 hour game that was immersive and fun, as I think most of us would.

(Though I'm a touch embittered on the subject of Final Fantasy, since XII was such a flaming pile of ass. I got it and honestly tried to finish it, but I just put it down halfway, cried, and returned it. I have never regretted doing so.)

ff's combat system isn't all that bad now. It's fairly free-flowing and a lot closer to playing other types of rpg

FFXII has gone back to Turn based combat.

What do you mean back? It was always Turn Based, but it used the ATB system.
