Ah man, when devs say games are going to take a certain amount of time, it usually takes me twice that amount to finish the game. I like to explore every single nook and cranny and really take my time with the experience, so I can see this altogether being possibly a 100 hour experience for me. Maybe I should skip this one, so my wife doesn't kill me. ME2 on the other hand... well, a man needs his interstellar combat.

Well thats 50 hours just for the main story, every FF has a assload of extra's to do that triple the playtime easily, FFX could be done in 30 hours or so, but doing all the extra's could push it well over 100

This is no surprise. Main FF quests tend to be 40 - 50 hours long. Now add in side quests and you'll add a considerable amount to that.

50+ hours is nothing compared to my playtime for Fallout 3
Fallout 3's main quest is what, 6 hours long?
Yeah, but the stuff to do outside the main quest is endless. Add the DLC to that, you're looking at 100+ hours, easy.

OT: Good. I need something to keep me entertained for a long time.

"And until we have a copy of FFXIII to play we won't see how long it takes to complete with all the sidequests. 50-60+ hours for just the main story is nothing to shake a stick at."

I've played longer games and I bet the 50+ hour long story includes a lot of leveling up to fight super hard bosses. Oh man all this talk about the game is getting me pumped up for it again I need to play this game so much I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER! *Explodes*

Right, but the main story of FFXIII is 50-60+ hours long. That's the point.

i spent 100+ hours on FF12. 60 hours is not that good.

also ff12's combat system is great. i'm exited about ff13 at all. free flow combat with user requested pause-command with open world and no random encounters. thats the way to go.

to think of it i couldnt even call ff12 a jrpg if it had a more mature non-linear story.

Can't say I'm not overjoyed.

If I can't get at least 40 hours out of an RPG, I'm gonna wind up feeling cheated.

50-60 sounds about right for a nice, mid-level game.

Yeah, just realised I missed it.
I blame my lack of sleep for this.

Ehm... am I supposed to be impressed? I still haven't beaten FFXII and I'm about 65 hours in. I expect FFXIII to be at least 70 hours, or I want a partial refund.
I found 12 to be a pain in the arse until the (forgot it) "Giant Ass Tower" towards the end. grindfest of levels, went from 13-45 for Ashe in -3 hours.

i can handle most FFs, and i loved 8 cos the men were men and the women were women, but 50 hours? nah i dont think ill bother
Squall was an emo-*****. Zell was a child. Irvine was a wimp (Oo I use a gun but I can't shoot someone). Seifer was just an emo-bully. Cid was Robin Williams.

Don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy 8 is a fantastic game. To say 'the men were men' though is, well, ridiculous.

On topic - Good. Let's just hope that doesn't become an excuse for scrimping on the side-quests...
Squall was not an emo *****, he was an emo bad-ass, which is fine in my books. Zell is a child, but thats the point, he's a lovable fool. Irvine was a human-being just like the rest of us, he isn't a psychotic murderer and therefore has trouble assassinating people. Seifer was definetley not emo, more of a jock. There is no doubt Cid was Robin Williams, is that supposed to be a bad thing?

I wonder what % of 50 hours will cinematics be?

Plus, turn based combat and what not...Then the grind that may be required to advance to a certain level. Im looking at you, FFX.

So? Persona 3 and 4 are at least 90 hours, i've clocked over 100 hours in Pokemon, Fallout 3, and other Final Fantasies aswell, it's a good sign
Persona 3 & 4 are also about 80% grind.
No, Persona 4 are about 40% grind, 30% Dating sim/ talking to friends, 20% getting to the boss at the top of the tower or bottom of basement or whatever and 10% actually fighting bosses.

50+ hours of turn based combat?
Yeah...not my thing either.
Dunno what Vs13 is though.

Anyway, that's nice for fans, I guess, as long as it isn't 50 hours of repetitive grind or 50 hours of sucky story or gameplay or anything.

I'll stick with RPGs though.
FFVs13 is a darker FF game with real time combat, aslong as it plays reasonably well I'll most likely buy it.
I hope it isn't like kingdom hearts in terms of the battle system. It would be more interesting if it was similar to Crisis Core.

50 hours of standing/dancing like an idiot as a giant fireball named Bomb head butts you in the face and then you bring down the sky to kill him (25 seconds cast animation)

Doesnt the back of FarCry 2 claim 50+ hours? I played for 1 and threw the controller...

I could see this as a good thing but usually the main char is a girlboy or in this case a girl with some emo story backline...

See, you complain about story missions getting too short, and games relying too much on Multiplayer to sell them, and then along comes one game that makes up for the deficencies of nearly an entire years worth of short games.

I salute you FFXIII, I salute you.

(Though I'm a touch embittered on the subject of Final Fantasy, since XII was such a flaming pile of ass. I got it and honestly tried to finish it, but I just put it down halfway, cried, and returned it. I have never regretted doing so.)
Me as well. I saw that Vaan wasn't going to stop being the most irritating RPG character since Colette in ToS and I quickly sold my copy to a fanboy for the same price I'd paid for it new.
