Being a Final Fantasy veteran, I have to say 50 hours is weak.

I'm up to a file of FFVII(7)running 180+ hours. Ahhh, the good ol days of games with single player that just KILL your life. And that's just one of my 5 files of it...

EDIT: I agree that XII(12) IS a pile of shit. Not was. IS. It still exists. I enjoyed II(2) better, and I dislike II(2) compared to all the others! XD

Good lord, II was terrible (yet still better than XII). What were they thinking when they made that leveling system?

On-topic... RPGs shorter than thirty hours for the main story I enrage me, so I guess it's good the game won't be short. Still, the day a short Final Fantasy game (in the main series) is released is the day I lose all faith in SquareEnix.

In my experience, "50+ hours" means "about 20-30 hours". And then another hundred hours or so where I wandered around checking stuff out / left the console on to go make dinner. They've been throwing these kinds of numbers around for a long time. It never adds up right.

Anyway, the story should take as long as it takes. As long the game's not painfully short, I'd rather it didn't ramble on and on (and brag about it).

I really liked FF12. Unless you count Tactics, it's my favorite FF since the SNES era (yay for nostalgia glasses!) It was strangely sober and atmospheric, coming from a franchise that's synonymous with crazy-over-the-top-ness. I admit I haven't been keeping up on all the 13-hype, but from what I have seen it looks a bit disappointing. Oh well, they've got a bajillion dollars, so as long as I can skip the cutscenes, the system will most likely be solid.

Meh, I would be more impressed if it weren't for Dragon Age eating up 120 hours of my life(on my first run alone) I could have spent writing a book, getting a girlfriend or being productive in any way shape or form. Nah, who am I kidding. Dragon Age was the best sink for my time.

Nice to see an RPG with some meat to the Story.

Now let's just hope that they haven't fuckered up the combat system too badly and that the plot is GOOD.

I like long games. It gives me something to go back to when craziness is done. Plus, let's compare this to MGS4, which had 50 hours of movies (I kid). I'll be happy to be able to do something for 50 hours as long as I feel like the story is still strong. If the story starts dragging I'll chuck it.

Let's just pray that the nearly all-female cast doesn't turn it into a 50+ hour soap opera.

Only 50 hours? That seems low for an rpg. And hardly a selling point IMO. Tell me it is a couple hundred. That'll impress me.

Ehm... am I supposed to be impressed? I still haven't beaten FFXII and I'm about 65 hours in. I expect FFXIII to be at least 70 hours, or I want a partial refund.
I found 12 to be a pain in the arse until the (forgot it) "Giant Ass Tower" towards the end. grindfest of levels, went from 13-45 for Ashe in -3 hours.
...why the hell was Ashe that low that late in the game?

(Though I'm a touch embittered on the subject of Final Fantasy, since XII was such a flaming pile of ass. I got it and honestly tried to finish it, but I just put it down halfway, cried, and returned it. I have never regretted doing so.)
Me as well. I saw that Vaan wasn't going to stop being the most irritating RPG character since Colette in ToS and I quickly sold my copy to a fanboy for the same price I'd paid for it new.
I honestly enjoyed FFXII a lot. and in my opinion Tidus is a lot more annoying than Vaan

OT: a few people here keep missing the fact that the 50 hours is the main quest alone which is about what most FF's are, easily going past 100 if you do most of the sides

This is news... How? FFVII was the only game I played where I maxed out the game time indicator and I still managed to play it for another 30 hours past THAT. Any good RPG game worth it's salt is going to take forever and a half to beat.
