It seems to have gotten infected with the anime bug... and i don't care for it.

I think i would spontaneously combust if I heard that Bioware and the FF dudes we're collabing on a new game. That would be cool.

I'd prefer a remake of FF7

What anime bug? This is pure Cyberpunk. If it's comperable to any anime I guess you could say it's like Ghost in the Shell. Is that a bad thing? Ghost in the shell is awesome.

Sazh is the most entertaining character by far,
Hope is really annoying and I also don't like him at all.
Lightening is basically Cloud Strife with a Vagina so far
Snow seems okay so far, no complaints
Vanille, her voice is strange. She seems to wander into British from time to time, but it doesn't stick. Its strange.
I got that with Vanille.
I can't ever place her accent, everytime i think i get close it's like she packs her bags and moves elsewhere.
As for Hope, im glad everyone else is agreeing on this, as he is a whiney fucktard.
Lightening and Snow. Awesome.
Sazh, best character so far.
Vanille, also kind of annoying, but her weapon is awesome so i'll let it slide.

I got one question for final fantasy 13 players. Why does everyone try to avoid battles in the game? I know there's a level cap and it can be pointless, but getting into battles will help you get you exp, when you have'nt maxed out, and sometimes you get rewards for winning. If you max out do you become serously overpowered or something?

I don't have much of a problem with the characters...except Hope, he can die in a fire, the thing that has annoyed me thus far is the party splitting,
like in the Ville Peaks, Sazh, Vanille and Hope? r u fucking srs? three casters?

other than that I am genuinely enjoying it.

I think your missing the point if your skipping the cutscenes...
What point? I hate the final fantasy story and all the characters, I don't need the cutscenes to tell me that.

All characters have multiple roles.

Then why the hell are you playing the game?

Because I enjoy the gameplay? I genuinely love the battles and I like seeing real character progression.
As long as I don't have to listen to anybody talk, then everything's okay with me.

I hate Hope. I like everyone but Hope. 9 hours in...I hate Hope. I hope Hope dies.
Yes I would have to agree with you, for me he is this game's cait sith. I remember the whole time I was with my buddy playing FF13 I was cracking jokes about his dead mom and how much of a failure he is.

No, you never get overpowered because you have to unlock sections of the crystal grid, it pretty much stops you from grinding too much.

Also I relate to Hope, I don't find him annoying in the slightest but I've been seriously moved alot of times so far...30 hours...by every character, even Vanille

I see what you mean. I don't think I'm quite as far as you, but yeah, he can get irritating. Then again:
His mom DID just die in front of him. Traumatic events can warp a soul.
Dumbass thinks its all Snow's fault. Like Snow FORCED his mom to fight. Even though it is very obvious.

To be fair I had feelings for all of them that ranged from annoyed to pure hate.
Lightning=*****
Hope=Whiny Emo
Sazh=Black Comic Relief
Vanille=Squeaky Peppy . . .Thing. . .
Snow=Over-the-top Wannabe Hero
Fang=***** (Different strain of the ***** gene exhibited in Lightning)

But then as the story progressed, I started to empathize with them. They developed nicely. While they still remained as animeish cliches, they had at least more than one demension and even my least favorites (Vanille and Hope) made me smile at points. Still not near finished, but the characters started out as my biggest complaint and worked nicely to be as enjoyable as the other aspects.

I've been enjoying the game myself, it's sooooo pretty =P, i proclaim it's better looking than Avatar; the characters are your standard awesome and the plot is mysterious in a way

It feels like Seven got mashed together with Ten and it's definitely Awesome (if someone wishes i explain this i can)

Eidolon Battles are ***** though, i'm having trouble with Odin

Lightning is worse than Cloud as far as personality. Cloud was crass but atleast he had some cocky swagger to back it up, Lightning is just cold and bitchy.
Like, really guys? Are we not beyond this when it comes to more complex, imperfect female characters?

-m[/quote]

There's a problem here.. she doesn't start out complex or imperfect. Until chapter 6-7 she is very two dimensional. She even admits that during the course of the game that all she was thinking about was fighting. She's just angry and hostile. It is partially the story's fault because it goes about revealing background in such an odd and disjointed way so you don't really understand why she is how she is. Now, with that said, as the story has progressed, I will retract what I said before because her character has developed.

Lastly, if you're gonna play the sexism card.. don't quote a girl.

yeah and all three of them have caster jobs, no commando to be seen, it's really annoying, at least I'm past that malarkey now.

Very interesting point about the perception of characters based on sex. I'm inclined to agree that females tend to have a harder time being 'edgy', but that's not so much a problem from gamers but much rather a result of the way men and females have been portrayed in art through tradition.

I have to say this though:

I think you give Lightning too much credit. I haven't played far, but as far as I can tell I don't see deep/complex emotions in her. She's just too lifeless, in order for a brilliantly flawed character to work you have to give me a lot more range than her annoyed growls. I haven't played FF7 but if Cloud was as blunt as Lightning, I'd dislike him just as much.

Vanille's character TYPE doesn't bother me, but her voice (and the shifting accent) does
I know, what is up with her accent, it goes like from American, to Australian, to South African. Is she supposed to be the FFXIII version of a trans-atlantic or somthing?

I'm undecided onto whether I find vanille cute or annoying (Her weapons pretty cool though) At the moment her charatcer seems completely different than what we saw in the trailers.

Combat i'm unsure of. Don't get me wrong it flows great and is a definate improvment on ff12's. However i'm missing being unable to control the whole party.

I've only played for a couple of hours at the moment but sop far I'm really enjoying it (And enjoying not letting my sister play *evil eyes*) And can't wait to get time for a good full on final fantasy Session

EDIT:
Also All those people who said the graphic are gunna be worse on Xbox then PS3, you may be right
but i don't care the xbox graphics are still phenomenal
