Haha, yea he was the drummer.
Oh right, I've only ever thought of him as being in the Foo Fighters. But then again I don't really like Nirvana so I wouldn't have known.
He's on Queens of the stone age too. His the drummer again there.
Yea, I checked out his Wikipedia article, he also played drums for Nine Inch Nails at one point.
AND he did something with Tenacious D *awesome smiley*

To start off on this, I will admit that I am a very big Nirvana fan, and a huge fan of Kurt Cobain. To all of the people that decide a discussion on his likeness being used as a place to name all the bands that you consider better and reasons you don't like them is just pathetic and pointless. If you don't like the band, and don't care, why bother writing anything you ignorant ****? Anyway, getting to the topic at hand. Yes, Cobain did get famous and did get absorbed into the mainstream. No one forced him to, and he had a lot of success for obvious reasons. Smells like teen spirit is one of my least favorite Nirvana songs, it has almost no impact on my personally than others. Nirvana as a group had OTHER ALBUMS, if anyone has ever been bothered to hear them. I need to get off of that tangent before I get into a huge Nirvana history lesson. This thread has just been rather frustrating to read. Cobain as a person would never have agreed to being involved with Actvision in the first place, and it would not have been an issue. Courtney Love, being the stupid whore that she is, is bound to find some way to embarrass Kurt even after he is dead. That is where the blame lies, with her. She fucked up his life and was a factor in his suicide in my opinion. It should not have happened, but it did, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. A bunch of old Nirvana fans just have to sit through this fucking waste of comments and realize how disrespectful most people are. It makes me fucking sick.

Cobain didnt want his music to be apart of the "mainstream" and didn't want it used to seduce/brainwash younger people, so he had his wife kill him. i could understand the one song in guitar hero 2 (i stopped playing instrument games soon after rockband 2 came out) but if you really want to respect and honor his work they should have just left it alone because if a fifth entry to a series isn't mainstream then i dont know what is.

To bluntly point out the obvious, Courtney Love is only kicking up a stink so she can make money from this, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic are upset because they don't want the legacy of their dead friend tarnished.

Bloody hell, people connected to Nirvana are whingy biches, I wonder why that is....
...

...
Ohhhh yeeah now I remember

Seriously what do they hope to come from this?
People not to buy the game because a dead friend is featured in it? It's just not going to happen, legal Activision have done nothing wrong and if people want something then they will go and get it and not give a a second thought if a dead musician is in it
Hell I'm willing to beat the majority of people who buy the game don't realise Kurt is in it or even who Kurt is.
Also why does every care about Kurt when (nearly) no one gives a shit about Jimi Hendrix or The Beatles?

That is the real question.
Probably not very much since he's dead. That kinda cuts your "List of things to think about." down to size.

Like i commented on the Love article the other day, Why didn't they something before? i am pretty sure Cobain as not only an appearance but a playable character was hyped at some point, so why did it take so long for these people to notice?
My guess is his wife and his ex-band mates aren't gamers and didn't know what was actually involved with the game until someone told them.

Perhaps they didn't read the contract very well or didn't get some of the gamer terms. Either way, if that is the case, I don't think that'd be Activison's fault. If they went outside of contract, then yes, its Activisons fault and they are evil, as usual.

Also, I don't really think Activision is using dead people to sell their crap... i don't know why, but to me it just feels a little far fetched and pretentious to say that they are. maybe i am naive and deluded, but hey, who isn't these days?
Nah, thats not evil enough for them these days. Activison are trying to get to the top tier in the league of evil - trying to kill Brutal Legend, forcing everything to try and tie into Guitar hero, wreaking Starcraft 2 by biting off LAN and mining single player for cash by forcing you to pay for each chapter.... one day, they'll beat Hitler to reach the number one spot.

I personally don't care one way or the other about Cobain's inclusion in the game but I am curious about why so many people seem to be up in arms over it. Recycling dead guys is nothing new; The Beatles: Rock Band [http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/] certainly didn't shy away from it and Cobain is sharing the Guitar Hero 5 stage with the late, great Johnny Cash, yet nobody says a word about his presence. I can't help but think there's a certain loss of perspective at work here. Maybe it's still too soon (perhaps Activision should have held off until Guitar Hero X) but at what point does it become okay to start using dead people to sell your crap?
In the case of Beatles Rock Band, I believe I read John Lenon's wife critiqued it awhile before release and had a controlling input into the game, and the living members can, you know, approve it themselves.

Don't really know anything about Johnny Cash, so can't comment.

From the reaction of Cobain's wife, I'm guessing Activison just got the estate to sign the deal, and then had nothing else to do with them until it was released.

I'm guessing your an atheist.
Well, Atheist or not, the guy never seemed to give much of a crap about life given the suicide and all, so I doubt he'd care even if he was alive.

Well if he's up in Heaven/Nirvana(c wut i did thar?)/whatever Paradise or Punishment plane you personally aspire to, I dare say he's got more things on his mind than a video game. Maybe it's just me but if I was in Paradise I'd not be getting hung up on what a bunch of people on Earth think about me. There's rather more important things to do like...oh, I dunno, enjoying your afterlife in eternal bliss?

Just a thought.

And yes I am an Atheist, though I don't really see what that has to do with anything.

In response to yesterday's outburst, Activision issued a statement of its own claiming that Love herself had signed a contract allowing Cobain's inclusion in the game. "Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain's likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero 5," the company said.

Courtney love is a recovering heroine addict so I am not surprised that she did not realize what she was signing. She should sue her lawyers for not reading the fine print because she obviously didn't.

Because you clearly dont beleive in the afterlife.

Just sayin.

You know, people are almost never Just sayin'. There's almost always a point behind it. I'm curious as to what your point is. He's dead. Either a) there is no afterlife, thus he doesn't care because he's dead or b) there is an afterlife, and he probably doesn't care because he's dead and is up enjoying Paradise/enduring his Punishment.

So, once more: I don't see what my Atheistic tendencies have to do with this train of thought.

Yup, EULA's are evil - and I don't see how their legal as they are included in the game itself; you can't read the contract before you buy the game, and after you've bought it and opened the box, the stores won't accept the game back - online purchases at least make you accept the terms before you buy.

'Heroine' addict?

So...she's getting over having a flashy outfit and superpowers?
Yes, and suggestive comments about her and her 'plucky sidekick' having sex (i.e. like Batman and Robin).
