The issue is that many people belive Kurt killed himself because he couldn't deal with his material being used by corporations and other people who wouldn't understand what it was about. At least thats what I remember. He's not even a guitar hero. There are umpteen thousands of guitarist who could play better than cobain. Dave Grohl can play better than cobain! He just seems like a mad choice for a charachter.

And we urge them to do the f*cking research next time. Did they not even check out any of the previous games? Obviously not, else they would have seen that everyone they put in the game becomes unlocked like this.
Don't go crying to your lawyers because you weren't responsible enough to pay attention to what you were doing with your dead friend's legacy.
Bret Michaels from Poison is only shown singing the Poison song in Guitar Hero 3, and isn't unlockable in any way.

edit: I think that's stupid btw, that he'd lend his likeness to the game just to appear in one song, but that's how it is.

edit2: Ok, he sings TWO songs - Talk Dirty to Me and Go The Far, but they're both Bret Michaels songs

Uhhh.... What would Kurt want?

That is the real question.
Probably not very much since he's dead. That kinda cuts your "List of things to think about." down to size.
I'm guessing your an atheist.
Well if he's up in Heaven/Nirvana(c wut i did thar?)/whatever Paradise or Punishment plane you personally aspire to, I dare say he's got more things on his mind than a video game. Maybe it's just me but if I was in Paradise I'd not be getting hung up on what a bunch of people on Earth think about me. There's rather more important things to do like...oh, I dunno, enjoying your afterlife in eternal bliss?

Just a thought.

And yes I am an Atheist, though I don't really see what that has to do with anything.
Because you clearly dont beleive in the afterlife.

Just sayin.
You know, people are almost never Just sayin'. There's almost always a point behind it. I'm curious as to what your point is. He's dead. Either a) there is no afterlife, thus he doesn't care because he's dead or b) there is an afterlife, and he probably doesn't care because he's dead and is up enjoying Paradise/enduring his Punishment.

So, once more: I don't see what my Atheistic tendencies have to do with this train of thought.
You said he's not thinking because he's dead, wich implies that you dont beleive in the afterlife, and if you were religious you would beleive in the afterlife, sooo....

I left it up to deduction.

Just sayin.

All religions ascribe to an Afterlife? That's not a terribly accurate deduction you've got there.

Hmmm, I'd forgotten about him. Still, she would have noticed that the majority get unlocked. If you really cared, you'd make sure about something like this, right?

Whats the point of religion if there is no afterlife?

"Do all these things limiting your life and making it less fun, give me an entire day of your weekend, and maby i'll let you not get eatin by worms when you die."

How many followers would that religion have: Zero.

So you're saying people are only religious because of the allure of an afterlife? I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Many people believe in reincarnation. No afterlife, just a new one.

But is this really relevent?

so you can only be religious if you are selfish...
i can see what you mean but most religions teach you to be selfless...
if you truly believed the teachings of the religion you would then have to stop being religious as to be religious is to be selfish and you are supposed to be being selfless.....

Oh NOooooooes!

Kurt Cobains blocky looking avatar singing a Jonas Brother song!

Why of ALL the things wrong with video games, society, and the freaking WORLD right now, THIS is what people are going to get sand in their collective wah-ginas over? THIS?

It's a GAME! Why are people so butt-hurt?!
It's no better or worse than Kirk/Spock gay fan fiction. Don't like it, don't PLAY it.
But when people start in with the "we should re-lock him, his LIKENESS shouldn't be used for ANYTHING but HIS songs which were meaningful and anti-corporate" in a music video game that is a shining example of "corporate" to begin with (it's guitar hero 5 for love's sake!) I think it's too much.

Honestly, Nirvana was great back in the day, but unlike greats like Hendrix and such Iconic musicians, I don't feel Nirvana has lasting appeal that spans generations. In fact, Nirvana to me goes right into that niche of 90's grunge bands that were part and parcel doing the SAME thing! His music was not any more "visionary" than the Spin Doctors or Soundgarden or Smashing Pumpkins. It was something for it's time, but in another 10 years, most people would have FORGOTTEN about Nirvana, and really the only thing that keeps us remembering is the WAY he died. Tragic, yes, but honestly I have little respect for anybody that takes their own life. Sorry, thats a FAIL to me. Hell he wasnt even a great guitarist... almost EVERYTHING he wrote revolved around the same 2 or 3 chords, the only ones he ever mastered... cobain was an autodictat... self taught... the dude couldnt even tune and re-string his own GUITAR.

I don't even really like the guitar hero games, but i'll think i'll go out and buy a copy, just so i can have a version with him unlocked to sing Billy Idol's Dancing with myself every so often for my own personal amusement before Activision caves in to pressure and "re-locks" him.

After they do so, I will no longer have an interest in the franchise whatsoever.

seems to me that ms. love didn't read the contract as closely as she should have but honestly *shrug* they are really just paying homage to one of the ARGUABLY greatest guitarists of the last century...but i do hope they sort this out soon

i would hate to see my WOW dollars going to solving a ultimately trivial lawsuit

Hahahahaha, this for the win!
also... I know they defined a genre, but if you listen carefully you'll notice that Nirvana ripped alot of riffs and chord changes from blue oyster cult.

Really??! one of the greatest Guitarists of the LAST CENTURY?! COBAIN?!?

You know, there is a reason most people starting out learning to play guitar start off with Nirvana songs..
BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLE and EASY.
Calling Cobain a great guitarist is like saying that Tito Jackson was a guitar virtuoso.

Wait, so was I doing something illegal by making my XBL Avatar look like Kurt Cobain. This kind of stuff always seems to be blown WAY out of proportion to me.

that's why i said ARGUABLY in big letters.... personally i disagree but some people obviously think he's up there and ya know what more power to them...

Also... to prove my point a lot of people think rap is rather keen.... i think it is a bunch of angry people telling everyone either how great they are or how much everyone else sucks.. *shrug* i still respect rappers as artists...i just don't pay them for their music as i think it sucks *shrug*
