I especicially liked the bit where he says "If an 8 year old plays this game, then they become a terrorist!"
I knew FOXnews was stupid, but I didn't realise the extent of it.

It was only a matter of time, I thought we may actually have gone a few shooters without fox having something to say about it.

I used to get upset at the thought of people taking these dolts seriously, but these days, I just try to look at it from a "wacky sitcom" point of view.

"Hey, guys! Modern Warfare 2 is turning our children into GOT-DANG MUSLIM TURRISTS!"
"Really, Fox? That sounds serious! What's the game about?"
"... Well, I don't know. I haven't played it. What do I look like, a nerd?"
*cue laugh track*
WHO ELSE BUT FOX NEWS?
*cue theme song, roll credits*

Contrary to Fox's belief, it's illegal for the game to marketed to children.

If the parents buy the game with a kid in the house and leave if for the child to get it and play it, that's the parents' fault not the game's. Blaming the game for actually putting the scene in the game is like blaming the mother of a pedophile for giving birth.

alright lets forget that this is a discussion about a videogame, fox wants to host a debate vs 2 parties, the first is represented by an experienced professional, the host and fox it self, the other by a 20 something blogger, now i think Jon did as good a job as you could expect from a man in his shoes, but this just seems borderline illegal, this is why we have weight classes in boxing.

Hahaha. I could blow away their flimsy arguments withount any problems. the person that is the "gamer," i feel, won this debate. even though he had little chance to speak. And was a lightweight in this debate.

...Wow. OK, I just watched that, and even I found myself agreeing with the "common sense" media guy.

Is that really the best spokesperson gaming can get?
No, but that's probably the worst spokesperson for gaming that Fox can find.

I'd normally be surprised that Faux News didn't go with someone from G4, since they've done that before, but with a track-record of pairing folks like Sean Hannity with Alan Combs, it seems in line with their style of "reporting".

Really, gamers and game executives should know what to expect when they go up against Fox News. If it was me, I would have prepared in advance by:

1) Digging up U.S. crime statistics (which point out that youth crime rates are dropping as a whole.)

2) Finding out the number of adolescent gamers in the U.S. (which is probably a large number) in order to make the point that not all of the million-or-so young gamers are crazed maniacs.

3) Memorizing the names of studies that refute the assessments that games are linked to violence.

4) Bringing up past forms of entertainment that were considered immoral/offensive for its time, but are now considered masterpieces (i.e. the ballet "Le Sacre du printemps").

I mean, these things probably won't let you win an argument against these buffoons, but at least you'll retain credibility and maybe influence a small percentage of people who watch Fox News.

On an unrelated note, it makes me truly sad that, even though most of the world knows that Fox News is a load of fecal matter, the channel is the most-watched news station in the U.S.

*sigh* I was actually sad at the ability of our advocate. Frankly, he was terrible. Not exactly the most fair debate. I'm not saying they're biased (though I personally think they are) but they chose an idiot for the gaming side. If they had chosen someone who had, oh, I don't know, actually played the game, and been mildly smart, it would have been fairer.

Whatever. I'm still gonna buy it and have tons of fun. Hmmmm... I hope they do a better debate. That would be interesting to watch.

"Fair and balanced debate"? By whose standards--Dick Cheney?"

Spoken like a true moron.
Well Apoc, I won't say that I fully disagree with several of your past comments, and yes his crack at Dick Cheney may have been in poor taste. However, you shouldn't start calling people morons. I'm just saying.

OT: Well, I can't say that there is ANY form of news that I have ever watched that hasn't had even a little bias. They were stating though that it isn't appropriate for children, and that parents should pay attention to ratings (which is true, and I am sure many can agree with the exception of children that want to play said game).
That being said, yes not everyone is the same, and I know that certain people mature faster than others.

P.S. I do think that there should have been better representation to protect the gaming aspect, because the point of the mission wasn't really gotten accross as well as it could have been.

A fair and balanced debate, huh? I love how he says that there's no doubt that video game violence causes actual aggression.

I'm a republican and I can't stand Fox News. They don't know what they're talking about and spouting mindless garbage about video games. Plus the guy that they picked to "represent" video games, no offense to him but he does not need to be on TV arguing his point. He made gamers seem even worse.

Nothing really to be proud of... that's like calling the sun rising in the morning. The second I saw the clip of that terrorist scene on YouTube, I knew that someone would get a hold of it and make a huge uproar about it. At least this one wasn't just made up of people lying through their teeth about graphic virtual sex scenes with pornographic images that didn't exist. I mean, I can see where they're coming from. Dressing up like a terrorist and shooting innocent people is not something to write off as innocent, but definitely not a huge deal. If a 12 year old kid playing this game decides that he should be a terrorist just because he saw it in a game, then he doesn't need to be playing the game.

As usual the media only responds to a game when they find a convenient moment to crucify it. I didn't see this bull when battlefield 2 or cnc generals was released both games that actually allow you to play as a terrorist. Seriously in cnc generals you could recruit suicide bombers, i.e.d.s and scud launchers. thats much worse than what you play as in modern warfare 2. i just slaughtered 40 Us marines today on bf2 but fox doesn't have that on tv.

"Fair and balanced debate".

Gamers - "Huh. You're Fox. You can't have a fair and balanced debate"

Fox - "Oh yeah? We've got two thirds of the screen devoted to us. An idiot who writes a blog will be defending the videogame with the very true, but simple statement, "It isn't real". We'll spend about ten seconds letting the gamer speak, then we'll interrupt him and say that there's nothing stopping the 8-year-old becoming a terrorist, in one of the most outrageous statements anyone ever said, ever. Even on Fox. How is that possibly unfair?"
